In the story The Decline of Newspapers Is Bad for the US by Laura FInley, you will learn that in the Untied States the sell of newspapers have declined tremendously over the past couple of years. Laura states that the younger generation are not reading the newspaper as much as the older generation. There are two different causes to the issue. The first being technology, and the second being age, race, gender and money. The first issue Laura states is that the internet has become a big issue to the cause of deline in newspaper sells. The younger generation, of course, is more focused on the internet. Some might say that is what our world revolves around. The internet can tell you anything. Whether or not it will be true is a different story.
Dating back hundreds of years the indigenous people of South and Central America had discovered the many uses of rubber, taken from what is known as a "Hevea brasiliensis" or more commonly, a rubber tree. When the latex is extracted from the tree it is hardened and formed into rubber which natives would use for numerous tasks such as making shoes, handles for tools, and even rubber balls for sports (Dean 23). Due to its useful yet uncanny features it created an immediate buzz of curiosity within the European colonies who occupied much of South America during the late 18th century. Word spread and it soon became a resource of high demand back in Europe whose industrialists sought fortune in collecting and selling
Two men represent their communities in different ways. Joe Louis represented the Black community in a boxing match. For instance, the boxing match between Louis and Carnera, was important to the Black community because Louis, a black boxer, represented them when he fought a white boxer. In the book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings Maya Angelou writes, “My race groaned. It was our people falling…A Black boy whipped and maimed.” (135). At this moment, Louis was almost robbed of his title. This would have been another injustice on the Black community, the referee signaled the contender to stop, and he continued hitting Louis (135). Also, not only were the Black community supporting one of there own, but wanted the sense of defeating the White
In chapter one, Wattenberg discusses the declining trends of Americans who regularly read newspapers between the 1960’s and present day. This can be attributed the aging patterns among generations who frequently read newspapers as well as with the use of technology rising. Reading the newspaper is a habit that either is or is not developed by the time one reaches voting age. With this, newspapers have become an older generation’s primary source of information, however, are still the best source for political matters. Younger generations tend to be more computer literate and have grown up with television and media more accessible to them than the previous generation. These trends not only reflect in American culture, but in other countries
Jerkiewicz, who worked in the newspaper business for 15 years, said the subscriptions have fallen drastically. In 1995 the newspaper has about 24,000 copies in circulation, but in 2010, only has 9,000 copies in circulation. The readers however, had not quit reading the news, but had turned to online sources. He adds that magazines and newspapers should have a strong digital marketing plan. He thinks that traditional printing will continue to decline, but will never die out. There will still be a market, but it will just be smaller than it is now. He says that Kindle had not run print books out of business, and it never will. He adds that printing is so cheap now that printers are going out of business because falling subscription levels are leading to
Through the internet and the change in learning this group is more self motivated to learn from each other versus just from the classroom. They also learn a lot more on their own. This expands “new forms of expression and rules of social behavior” (Source B). Consequently, the internet is more creativity and sense of self. As well as that “what makes these groups unique is that while adults participate, they are not automatically the resident experts by virtue of their age ” (Source C). Proving that Millennials surpass adults in the aspect of technology understanding and knowledge. Overall, the 30 and under generation are more self directed and creative in their learning prior than older
The article by Laura Finley explains what she thinks the reasons newspaper sales are decling. In a way, she makes a point. Technology is a big factor in everything we do. When people are on their phones they are not aware of what is going on in the world around them. If they had a newspaper instead, maybe they would be able to pay more attention to their surroundings.
In the 1800’s many important speakers and authors addressed topics ranging from prayers and travelling to the State’s involvement in slavery and the Constitution. They criticize and praise what they see as the important and ignored issues involving all people of the Union.
The article I found on the website http://www.marketingteacher.com/the-six-living-generations-in-america/) states, “Millennials were raised in a digital environment and prefer to retrieve most of their information from the internet.” I am a member of Generation Y, and I agree with this statement. My generation likes to receive information in real time. I believe that there lies some truth in all stereotypes. My generation has a totally different mindset than our parents did. My parents are Baby Boomers and they placed heavy emphasis on education and working a job for thirty years. In today’s society, that way of thinking is not the best formula for success because the world has changed. My grandparents were from the GI/Mature
The younger generation is well known for being the generation distracted by social media. Mark Bauerlein believes that a “paradoxical and distressing situation is upon us” because the youngest generation disregarding literature, is self absorbed, and is attached to pop culture media.
Newspapers were among the first to report the news. Nevertheless, scientist invented the television more people began to see the news rather than read the paper. In a world dominated by technology vs. paper USA Today has maintained as one of the most popular informative publications of all times. The opportunities in today’s economy that affected and are still affecting USA today are keeping their customers while increasing profits. The challenges in today’s economy that affected and are still affecting USA today are technology and continual innovation of marketing strategies.
Sit down and what do you do? Do you open up a book? Do you open a newspaper? No, you open up your phone or computer and open up to the internet. We no longer rely on looking for our information, and just would rather have it handed on a silver platter. We have become lazy, however my generation has a whole new set of skills like computer analysis, online marketing, or social media tracking, that would take an older generation much longer to learn how to do.
First of all, the argument relies on an assumption that the cause of decline in The Mercury's circulation is increased competition from another lower-priced newspaper, The Bulge. However, no evidence is presented in support of this assumption. In fact, the source of the problem may be entirely different, such as a loss of market share by traditional newspapers to the web and
