Such an intense focus has been placed on quarterly earnings as an indication of a company’s success by everyone from analysts to executives that ethics have for the most part been thrown out the window, sacrificed to the all important number, i.e. earnings per share. This is the theory in Alex Berenson’s book “The Number: How the Drive for Quarterly Earnings Corrupted Wall Street and Corporate America.” This number has become part of a game to be played, a figure to be manipulated – beat the number and Wall Street all but throws a parade, miss it and a company’s stock may be abandoned. Take into account the incentives that executives have to beat the number and one can find plenty of reasons to manage earnings.
The majority of people in this world, the number 7 has no meaning to them what so ever. But in the book Counting by 7’s by Holly Sloan Goldberg for Willow it is the complete opposite. The author’s purpose in writing The Eighth Day was to teach a lesson. Not everything comes to you as easy as you think. Imagine that during this moment of serenity, tragedy strikes, and you’re left in a battle between life and death. Majority of people would do whatever it took to survive, and in this situation you’re left with only risky decisions. Imagine surviving this catastrophe by yourself until rescue workers come to save you, a blessing. That is until the bill is seen. Luckily, this is just a little scenario, but for many people this is a reality.

Numerous advantages and disadvantages exist when explaining the history of the world in seven minutes, as seen in "The History of the World in Seven Minutes." As a result, many events are briefly looked at, or ignored completely. Both major and important occurrences in history are summarized, giving the events most influential to humans a spotlight or greater focus. On the other hand, humans have made exceptional progress over the last 15,000 years, consequently, all of the major time periods, civilisations, and confrontations cannot be observed by more than a name and a date; the lack of depth creates a sense of lacking and a gap of missing knowledge.
“Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim” by Vicki Harrison. In the movie, Seven Pounds, Gabriele Muccino develops a character played by Will Smith who’s name is Tim in the movie. Through out the movie Tim pretends to be is brother Ben. I believe that Tim cares so much more about other people’s lives than his own life. Also, I think that this was triggered when him and his recently engaged wife got into a car accident. The first organ Tim donated was to his brother Ben and it was a lobe of his lung this was a year after the crash. This is also when Tim steals Bens IRS ID badge and pretends to be him to look at people financial history of people that might receive his donations. Tim would also interview the person to make sure they were a good person before he knew he was going to donate to them. The
I am submitting, for your consideration a short story for possible publication. The title, “Thimble of Luck,” is about four women who live on the eastern shores of Virginia. Two are honest, loyal, and naïve and if that were a crime, they would be behind bars. The other two are Machiavellians, and if that were an exemplary virtue, they would win medals. The plot of the story centers around, an unorthodox birthday gift and what transpires after the gift is reluctantly accepted. Two of the characters speak in a southern vernacular and this should not be interpreted as a form stereotyping. I was raised on the eastern shores of Virginia and grew up listening to my grandmother tell me story in her slow southern dialect - misusage of verb,
Should the narrator of “The Seventh Man’ forgive himself for his failure of saving K?
Survivors guilt.... An emotion brought on by a traumatic experience. Thing like watching a fellow soldier or close friend die. In the story, “ The Seventh man” The narrator Goes through watching the death of his best friend K. This experience bring on survivor's guilt talked about in the story “The Moral logic of survivor's guilt.” Even though the narrator of the story had watched K die, he should have been able to forgive himself. Although there is a cost to surviving, no matter what he told himself it was not his fault that K had died so tragically.
This particular story called Seven Percent Solution, the character in story named Holmes and, Freud had so many similarities, but I decided to choose three physic and detectives. Freud and Holmes are both hard-working at what they were they were doing. Freud saved Holmes from using cocaine; examples in the story is “I'm up for vision problems is the “troubled mind”, and of thought of it giving Holmes some prescription drug hypnotize him if you are willing to cooperate I can reduce your craving a time”. When someone is going through addiction, tough love is the key to everything. Freud and earned a degree in the medical field. Now Holmes earned a degree in detective work.
“The Seventh Man” by Haruki Murakami is a passage where a man tells a story of how his friend, K., lost his life in a hurricane, causing the narrator to have to face his fear of water later in his life. The Seventh Man gave context of how his friend had gotten swept up into a wave in the eye of a hurricane. When K. didn’t hear the man calling out to him, the man blamed himself for his friends death. After his dreadful experience, the Seventh man was constantly followed by the thought of K., how he died, and how he could have stopped it. The Sevenths Man's feelings could be considered to be survivors guilt. The fact that The Seventh Man tried to save his friend but couldn’t shows why he should forgive himself for K,’s death.
