My father, Jason Katcher was my Coach for nine years. We have had our ups and our downs. Through all these years of sports there are these unfathomable moments in time that will be frozen in to my mind. One of these moments was for the championship in a football tournament. My team and I needed a touchdown to when the game. I hear the fans screaming, my heart is pounding, the other team is nervous, I look up less than ten seconds left, forty-five yards to go, I look left I look right like I do before every play and then I look at my coach.

Coaches… there are a lot of coaches out there. Good coaches, bad coaches, and great coaches. Me personally likes a coach who is always on top of his belongings and business. If a coach slacks off and doesnt even care about the players or staff or the game he is coaching then he is plain out a terrible coach. I once had this one coach who didn’t care at all. He was terrible in and outside the classroom. He constantly gave out book work and didn’t even teach. On the field he didn’t even coach. Coaching philosophies differ all over the world, from one sport to another. They are the central foundation to any good coach’s success in his/her respected programs. A coach’s philosophy does not only guide and lead the other members of the staff in the right direction, but it also allows each athlete to know what is expected of them, and how they should behave. Did you know that 2 years ago I played in my school championship game ? We were at Chichester high school . We came out as nervous team shaking legs were non-stop on the bench the starters were even scared. We have not even started Kick return and the team was sweating I got to be honest my self I was scared myself ! I wasn't that scared though only thing i was worried about was Coach Ryan and his son Ishaad Maultsby. They came out all excited and they were coming out so flashy, Ishaad was treated like Cam Newton at the super bowl game !

What is a coach? Webster dictionary says a person who teaches and trains athletes, a person who teaches and trains the members of a sports team and makes decisions about how the team plays games. What makes a good coach? Is it wins? Bobby Knight has 902 wins and many question his coaching tactics. Becker*The all-time leader in NCAA basketball wins is Harry Statam of McKendree, he has 1,088 wins but no national championships. Mike Kryyzewski has 1,018 win and 5 national championships. So what makes one coach better than another? How and what criteria can we use to measure? Can a coach with a losing record still be a good coach? Are all coaching with winning records good coaches?

So many Coaches have talent and dedication for what they do. I 'm proud to play for one that has a spectacular history of coaching. That coach is Dennis Lorio, who Graduated from LSU (Louisiana State University) with an economic degree and played baseball. “I love the intensity and the relationship in football” Coach Lorio explaining with a passionate expression. I can see it in his eyes that he is very dedicated and hardworking coach. As of now he is 62 years old and still willing to coach. “It’s not the same without coaching. I will inspire athletes to demonstrate good character. Sports do not have an influence on one’s character; however, coaches can strongly impact athletes’ character, both negatively and positively. For this reason, I will work to coach in ways that support the growth of athletes’ character and create learning opportunities and situations in which athletes can practice and learn from. As a coach, I will lead by example and demonstrate good character because actions speak louder than words. When I think of coaching I think of practice planning, game planning, scouting strategizing of offense and defense, choosing my starters, little things like that. All of those ideas are valid, but that’s not the whole picture. There is a lot more to coaching than planning for a practice or a game. Many times a person who would like to coach an interschool athletic team has little or no preparation to teach sports skills and techniques.
