The biopsychosocial approach recognizes human behavior as the result of interactions of integrated biological, psychological, and social systems (Melchert, 2003). Biological refers to the body’s biochemical, cell, organ, and physiological systems. Psychological deals with the mind and the mental processes, like mood, personality, and behavior. Social factors include, cultural, familial, socioeconomic, medical, education, religion, social welfare and government. Casey exhibits anxiety and depression which has to do with psychological, mood and behavior, and social factors. In the case, it states that Casey resumed drinking heavily after she “came out” as a lesbian to her parents. She probably resorts to drinking as a coping mechanism and as a way to forget things if even for a while, although drinking for these reasons is never a …show more content…

Mentioning the client’s strengths, like graduating from college and having a full time job, can initiate positive change. Together with Casey, we could establish a plan of action and implement goals that would benefit her. When implementing goals one could ask Casey what it is she would like to accomplish and what she plans to do next. I would suggest she seek support groups to help with her anxiety and depression. I would recommend for Casey and Angie to attend the program for alcoholics together so that they are able to carry over what they do in group discussion to their home environment. Both Casey and Angie might benefit from attending couple’s therapy if they feel it would help their relationship. They could also take a class on how to properly manage their finances. I would also suggest they find other activities that are of interest to them to occupy their minds with other things other than
