Imagine a veteran at the checkout line in a grocery store. A customer offers to pay for the veteran. The veteran politely declines the offer, but the customer would not allow it. The veteran looks annoyed and says, “I appreciate the offer, but I can pay for my own groceries.” This situation is common across this nation. Even though some veterans are struggling, most veterans are tired of being pitied. Therefore, our nation was doing enough recognition of veterans. Our nation is already doing enough to recognize veterans. According to James Joyner, author of “Stop Feeling Sorry for American Veterans,” the veterans “... got out with our physical and mental health intact, along with valuable leadership training, improved confidence, and
Our nation past was, well, not always perfect. Without some of our veterans, our country wouldn’t be as free as it is. Veterans continue to make our country a free country, which also makes it a better place to live in. Veterans stood up for our country; whether the ones forced to go during the draft, or the ones who voluntarily go. Whether the cause, they were always ready to go and fight for the people’s freedom. We really do see how great these people are, I mean, they risked their life for ours to be
As a nation, we need to be thankful for our veterans. The men and women who join the military undergo nine weeks, or more, of boot camp. That right there is said to be the most laborious nine weeks of anyone’s life. Drill sergeants break them down both emotionally and physically, so they can improve upon them and make them stronger. Those are the people we should be thanking, the ones who fight to preserve our country’s freedom, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. Those are the fundamentals of our Constitution that those people fight to protect. However, after their service, it doesn’t seem like people know that.
One often misinterprets the true meaning of war, believing it is only a dispute that is ended through fighting. In fact, war is more than just fighting. It is a battle where many brave souls lose their lives for protecting the country they love. Many of the rights we have today would not have been possible without the sacrifice of many brave American soldiers. Instead of living in a tranquil and prosperous nation, we could be living in a nation that resembles countries such as Africa, living under poor conditions and extreme poverty. It is imperative to take into consideration that the veterans we have today have made an impact on our nation and we owe much of our respect to them. Not many people have the courage to take on the heavy and overwhelming duty of going to war, knowing that death is imminent. Along with that, many of them have experienced traumatizing moments that have scarred them for life. Because of this, there is much appreciation and respect inclined towards
It is important to remember how much of daily life is affected by the work of veterans. Walking on streets, going to school, eating at restaurants, and hanging out with friends all depend on the service of veterans. They may not receive the proper amount of recognition from the younger generations, but their work is appreciated. In actuality, they gained vital information that can be shared with the future generations. They have gained respect and honor for their duty for our
In today's society where opinion matters, people have been extremely vocal about the lack of support the government has provided to our veterans. Many feel as if the government should do more, while others feel as if they are doing enough. Everyone will have a difference of opinion no matter if they have severed in the military or not. No matter how one may feel, is extremely important to take care of our veterans. As they have sacrificed their lives, time, and family to protect our country. Contrary to one's belief, the government provides a substantial amount of programs, which support the veterans. Honestly more could be done. On any given day you could see women and men standing on the corner holding signs implying they are homeless veterans and will work for food. A few programs the government offers our veterans are funding for mental health services, The Wounded Warrior Project and Vocational Rehabilitation and Education, which will be discussed throughout this essay. When you research the programs, they make it sound as if all proceeds are going towards the best treatment and care money could buy.
There have been many great wars in history of The United States of America, and these loyal, hard working and aging soldiers have come to be called veterans. A veteran is someone who has served or is serving in the armed forces. They are honored on November, 11 every year. That's how much they mean to us. We honor them because they risk their lives saving ours. They should be noticed for all their sacrifices. They should also be honored because they help keep freedom in our country. These are three reasons why they should be honored, there are many more because they do so much for us.
U.S veterans former, and current have fought or are fighting and have died in battle serving this wonderful country. More former veterans than ever are coming back disabled either mentally or physically. There are hundreds of disabled veteran foundations in the United States today, but a lot are a fraud. Everybody who has not served should donate a good amount of money of these foundations and not be worried about the foundations keeping it or giving it to someone else who shouldn’t receive it. We owe our lives to these men and women. Like Elmer Davis once said, ¨Our nation is the land of the brave because it is the home of the brave¨ (Elmer.). More Veterans are coming back disabled than ever before. To see the disgusted and sad faces on these families of these heroes who can’t live the way they used to is extremely depressing, You should
Veterans fought day-to-day to protect the lives of the American people. After deployment, veterans begin to struggle with going back to a normal citizen life. It becomes harder for veterans to maintain a job and keeping themselves sane. Countless of veterans compete with many negative factors to not affect veterans overall health. Thousands of veterans need assistance when having to adjust to what one would call a normal life.
Ever since July 4th, 1776, the vision of the United States has been to constantly improve the government and society in any way possible. Many historical things have happened since that date; slavery was abolished, civil and women’s rights have been signed into law, and just this summer, marriage equality has been made federal law. Despite the efforts to make the United States of America the land of opportunity and equality, people tend to forget about the people who made it possible for the United States to remain the “land of the free”, our U.S. veterans. Our U.S. veterans, over the years, have been treated not like they should have. Veterans have had social security benefits taken from them by the government in secrecy, and bad-mouthed in
Contrary to the perception that our nation’s veterans are well supported in fact many go without the services they require of which they are
Veterans should be shown more respect from citizens because they fought and died for our freedom. My papa got a medal for helping patch a hole in his ship when it got torpedoed. In WW1 men had to suffer being in trenches and harsh conditions. D-Day was on of the bloodiest day in WW2 and in history. This is some conditions veterans
Veterans fight for us so we can have freedoms. Freedoms give us, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom to vote. We should all be thankful because we have privileges, that not all people got in the past. Veterans want everyone of us to live without fear. They also, want us
Why do we honor veterans in America? The veterans of America need to be honored due to them risking their lives for many others. They also have to give up their time with family and friends. They have to deal with the many deaths either from their side of the battlefield or the other. Now with them doing these thing we are able to live without fear in the world. Also veterans must know that their lives would never be the same ever again. That is due to the war doing things to their brains causing them to act differently than normal.
One day dedicated annually to those who have undergone pains worse than death for their country, and have served honorably and faithfully, seems paltry recompense. Every stalwart soldier that has seen war, is a hero matching the likes of Odysseus, Theseus, and Achilles. A great hero deserves great reward, therefore the absolute minimum one should give to a veteran is an acknowledgment of the great debt owed to them. Without our veterans, Americans would have long been subjugated to the whimsy of merciless, bloodthirsty foreign leaders, therefore America's veterans should be baptized in gratitude. There are no monsters in the world, only people, and our veterans were once the only thing protecting humanity from
Thousands of men and women throughout the United States give up the security and safety of their home to defend the freedoms that Americans, just like myself, get to enjoy every day. These men and women endure hardships and tragedies that most of us could not imagine dealing with, and they do it selflessly. When they finally get to return home to the country that they fought so selflessly to protect, they are forgotten. Veterans all across America receive inadequate health care, are left to suffer from mental illness and end up homeless, and the government is not doing near enough to help them. There are countless flaws in the way that our veterans are taken care of when they return home, and
