The poem Angel of Death by Udiah is a poem about Death –and how there’s no way to escape it. The fear of Death is strong in this poem; in it a man is running away from the angel of Death. The poet uses imagery and symbols effectively to set the atmosphere throughout the poem, “in the darkness of the night” (line 1). This opening sets the tone and reveals the setting of the poem. Stanza one relates to the theme because it’s saying Death is everywhere, which means you cant escape him, the last sentence “the angel of death at his kill”, means Death was about to attack the man. The second stanza states that Death can’t be escaped and describes the man’s fear when Death launches himself at the man. The third and fourth stanza reflect on the theme by describing that death is still out there looking for him because he escaped. In the third stanza the man is running away from death because of fear, but he escapes into the light freeing himself from Deaths kill and the last stanza describes the mans memories of his encounters with Death and says basically that Death still haunts him, even though he escaped he knows death is out there looking for him. I liked the use of rhymes in this poem because of the unique arrangement of words to save words and help make rhymes. I find the repetition of stanza-ending line, “The angel of death at his kill” very clever, it’s a constant reminder that death could come to take him any time he pleases and the man knows that all to well.
