On November 5, 2015 at approximately 1000 hours I took a jail tour of the Santa Cruz Correctional facility on Water Street, with Melinda Payne as my tour guide. There were a few things that stood out to me during the jail tour. First, I observed how clean and orderly the jail was. There were no bad odors and the walls, floors, and windows were well kept. Personally, I try to maintain a clean and organized workspace therefore the jail environment fit me well. Second, I noticed the overall size of facility. The jail is relatively small in size and was broken into different sections. Personally, I like this layout because I believe it allows for better communication to inmates and staff, better response to major incidents, and quick ability to

Glen Loury argues in his essay called “A Nation of Jailer” that the United States is a nation that follows a society that has been affected by racial bias. Loury claims that the people who are targeted by law are racial discriminated. Loury mainly talks about the “poorly educated black and Hispanic men who reside in large numbers in our great urban centers.” (1) Loury has made a clear and strong point. Loury shows his points in three main ways. Loury emphasizes his points by using ethos, logos, and pathos. Loury uses many well-known characters in his writing, and Loury uses strong phrases that impact the reader emotionally and questions to make sure the reader has some sort of connection to Loury’s evidence. Furthermore, Loury gives a lot
There is no typical jail. Many jails are part of multipurpose buildings that also serve as the county courthouse, the sheriff's office, or the police station. Others are larger and self-contained. Although it is often charged that most jails are antiquated, the majority of jails were opened between the 1950s and 1980s. Although most jails are small, rural or suburban facilities, almost half of all jailed prisoners are in large urban institutions, which tend to be chronically overcrowded. Many jails utilize double occupancy, perching two or more inmates into cells designed for one. Large numbers of inmates are also housed in dormitories. Many of these arrangements are a far cry from meeting the standards promulgated by the Commission on Accreditation
One particular night I was in my room on my laptop, and Steve abruptly burst through the front door. I could hear my siblings scream, “Stop,” as I walked to the door to see what was going on in the room. Steve and my mom were face to face and appeared to be engaged in a verbal altercation. I ran towards them to step in between the conflict, but it was too late. He had struck my mother and charged at me. He grabbed me by my white tank top shirt, and he dragged me into the kitchen. He picked me up several times and body slammed me on the kitchen floor. I tried to kick him off of me, but my adolescent legs were no match for this 250 pound man. My mother and siblings began to strike him with pots and pans and begged him to get off of me. I manage
‘Most of the participants said they had felt involved and committed. The research had felt "real" to them. One guard said, "I was surprised at myself. I made them call each other names and clean the toilets out with their bare hands. I practically considered the prisoners cattle and I kept thinking I had to watch out for them in case
For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting. My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safety precautions implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments for physical therapy occupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x-rays and medical needs. John told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for the art projects.
The American Prison framework is coming up short us as a country. As exhibited by Brain Kincade the American restorative facilites framework is monstrous. The American Prison is enormous to the point that it's reviewed turnover of $74 million obscurations the GDP of 133 countries. The greater part of it needs to do with the way the American true blue structure works and how it has changed over the traverse of the most recent 40 years. The country detain masses has quadrupled to 2.2 million in which it has amplified all through the last a30 years. The American Prison is higher for blacks and Latinos more than whites. The miserable part is that numerous people in these therapeutic workplaces are moms, fathers, sisters, kinfolk, young women and
The overcrowding prison reflects that the inmate population has grown much faster than the funding for prisons, which is controlled at the state level. In most cases, state funding has not come close to keeping up with the rise in the prison population, leading to decrepit prison infrastructure that is wholly inadequate for housing such large numbers of inmates. Without capacity to house inmates properly, some prisons have resorted to having prisoners sleep in gymnasiums, and many have overcrowded cells to accommodate the extra bodies. This overcrowding has led to deteriorating cleanliness of prisons and declining safety. Today, non-violent prisoners are forced to live in close quarters with violent ones, and the results are predictable.
I think I would have acted strong but not as forceful as a guard. I don’t think I would have it in my body to inflict that kind of torture on people regardless of what I was ordered to do. I also think in the told of the prisoner I would do what I was told regardless of how much it may leaving lasting scars. I would have been scared out of my mind as a prisoner so I would have just went along with whatever was being ordered to do. When it comes to the guards, I am pretty confident about not acting like they did in the experiment but when it comes to the way the prisoners acted, I’m not so sure that I wouldn’t act any different than they did. I think they felt trap and alone and that no one care about their wellbeing and I think I would feel
On 05/15/17 at approximately 2242 hours, at the 4th Ave. Jail located at 201 S.4th Ave. Phoenix AZ 85003; while conducting a security walk in 2C 100 pod, SP-2 Inmate Arroyo, Daniel T326894 advised me he needed to be moved to a different location. I then questioned the Inmate Arroyo and asked why did he need to be moved? While speaking to Arroyo, I noticed his physical conditions and blood on his face, he advised to me that he had been assaulted and wanted to be moved from his current pod. Sgt. Weber A5273 the lead on level two at that time, was advised of the assault and directed me to review the video of 2C pod 100. While watching the video, I discovered that SP-1 inmate Gloria, Arnold T362962, and inmate Arroyo were engaged in some type
