Our organization Nature Iraq does really important work to support the Mesopotamian Marshlands. Our work has changed the environment for the better. For thousands of years, the marshlands influenced the culture by Giving them a flooded marsh that has animals to hunt like fish for food. Also, the marshes provide the culture with fresh water and trading goods that the culture makes. There are reeds in the marshes that the people use to make houses and blankets so houses don't get cold. Also, the reeds are used to feed their buffalo and make food. Many people in the marshlands will use boats to get the reeds so they can transport the reeds to people who need them.They also can transport people who don't have The culture likes to fish and hunt animals for food, they use boats to catch the fish so they don't have to stand next to the tall grass while fishing. When analyzing the biological, cultural, and social, aspects of the ancient Sumerians and modern day humans we see a profuse amount of distinctions and contrasts. Modern humans live in advanced and culturally diverse societies which in comparison makes ancient Sumer’s way of life seem very plain. The two groups evidently share many differences , but the author, Samuel Kramer, argues that in the face of oblivious contrasts, the roots of these two societies are still very fundamentally analogous. Kramer then expands his point to say modern humans and ancient Sumerians are similar and comparable on the content of their character, their reactions to war and conflict, and with the similarity of their social class system.

Sumerians was ancient groups of people that lived in southern Mesopotamia. From everything I have researched, the Sumerians had a different way of life, they hunted prey, lived in caves or huts, provided their own type of language among themselves and had a very religious lifestyle. The Sumerians was so religious they build temples that best suited their religious interests, their main temples was man made holy mountain that they called ziggurats, their they put god figures that they would hold and worship; the figures had huge eyes with the praying hand gestures. The Sumerians had a different religious lifestyle than most, but are quite interesting when studying their artistic history and religious lifestyle.

Civilizations are radical states of human society that include a high level of culture, morals, knowledge, manufacturing, and government. Mesopotamia was one of the most astounding civilizations that anyone discovered. The location of this nation fell right in between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, where modern day Iraq is located. It was positioned right along “the fertile crescent”. Because of this, the soil was very rich which caused great agriculture. It was one of the first cultivations to roam the earth. Mesopotamia had many phases, which included the Ubaid, Uruk, Jemdat Nasr, Early Dynastic, Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian period. Every stage had their own unique trait. Something new and exciting happened for each era. During 4300 BCE, the late Ubaid period in Mesopotamia began. Many events and actions took place during this time. Mesopotamia was an outstanding region and contained many treasures, including pottery, inventions, architecture, and Ziggurats.

In truth, this situation is the result of gradual steps taken over hundreds, even thousands, of years, and only appears to arrive fully formed as written records begin to shed their light; however, the sheer scope of the state's control over the lives of the people is astonishing.

Ancient Mesopotamia housed its share of civilizations, empires and city-states. Two of those well-known societies, the Sumerians and the Akkadians, fought back and forth for control over Sumer, an area that is about the size of Northern Ireland (“The Rise of Sumer and the Akkadian Empire”). Although both civilizations overlapped in place and time, both contributed their own unique artistic and architectural achievements to what is known as Iraq, using their own language that was not even distantly related to each other (Frankfort 83). The cultures of Sumerian society in general fascinates me, but what really fascinates me is their religion and practice of medicine. In 3000 B.C.E. Sumerians basically appeared out of thin air because no one knows where their origin starts. Sumerians established numerous towns in southernmost part of Mesopotamia, which became known as Sumer.

The Sumerians created a lot of old stories that you might of heard of like “ The Epic of Gilgamesh”. Located in Mesopotamia near the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, the “ Cradle of Civilization” was born. Geographers helped isolate other city-states. This unit also takes place in Southern Iraq, in 3000 B.C., when the Sumerians had their own government. They had many great ideas that turned into great inventions that still affect people today. Changes have always been a manifestation inside the borders of Iraq. Many rulers as well as followers have come and gone, leaving eternal footprints on the land. The history of Iraq and its people dates back to before 3500 BC, the world's first civilization of people. Various battles were fought over this great and productive land, also called Mesopotamia. Wars and battles have continued on to present times. In 1936 Iraq became independent from Britain after the mandate in 1917. Several battles transpired with the Kurds during the 1960's and 1970's, as the Kurdish people wanted full sovereignty in Iraq. The Republic of Iraq declined their request and the conflicts began, until a cease-fire was acknowledged with the Kurds in 1964, and later in 1975.

Thesis: Iraq is a multicultural country that is located in the Middle East. Iraq borders Kuwait to the south, Saudi Arabia the south, Jordan the west, Syrian Arab Republic to the northwest, Turkey to the north, and the Islamic Republic of Iran to the East. For the past hundred years, Iraq has been in conflict with numerous countries. During the past few decades, The United States of America started its war with Iraq due to terrorist act against the United States and Kuwait. The Gulf War started in August 1990 through February 1991. This was an operation to buildup troops and defense of Saudi Arabia. The United States led coalition forces from 34 countries during the Gulf War against Iraq due to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. In 2003 the United States invaded Iraq due to terrorist acts against United States. The war went on for over 10 years that eventually brought down the terrorist threat against the United States and its allies. However, this came to numerous casualties and deaths to not only Soldiers, but civilians as well.

Iraq religiously recognized as the cradle of civilization. Mesopotamia the center of civilization on the planet. The land of Iraq is historical recognized, because it is where the first law, the Hammurabi code, enacted in Babylon thousands of years ago. It is where the seventh wonder of the world, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, is located. It is important culturally because Iraq was the center of the Islamic Empire (Khilafat), and Arab civilization for hundreds of years. Iraq is where culture and science blossomed. Mesopotamia and Harappan societies have long been compared throughout the history of archaeology. Mesopotamia, also known as, 'the land between the rivers,' was named for the triangular area between the Tigris and the Euphrates river, (Nov. 7 lecture). In recent use, it covers a broader area referring to most of what is now Iraq. This adds ancient Assyria and Babylonia to the scope of Mesopotamia (Schultz and Lavenda 1995:310). Parts of Mesopotamia were not inhabited at all until approximately 8000 BC when plants and animals were domesticated, bringing about an agricultural revolution. This allowed nomads and cave dwellers to become farmers and herders.(Whitehouse 1977:129).)

Trade has been one of the foundation of societies and cultures the world over, but while the concept has remained the same, the way humans trade has changed a lot throughout the centuries. The 16th century and 21st centuries were no strangers to the fundamentals of trade, and trade in both centuries shared some same idea, forget the hundreds of years that separated them. That being said, the 16th century and 21st century employed some different methods to meet the challenge of trading. These similarities and differences show how despite being a standing ground for the humanity and the fundamental aspects may have remained constant, there are simple things into how the 16th and 21st centuries got ahold the need to trade with those around them.
