Whilst cyber bullying is not physical it’s emotional and psychological effects are devastating for the victim and can often lead to suicide and depression (Hinduja & Patchin, 2010). Social Networking sites act as a platform where bullies can say things they might not usually say to someone in person, anonymity and less physical proximity act as a wall between the bully and the victim, none the less, the words or rumors’ that are shared are still just as hurtful. Bullies often feel more confident online and they can contact their victims anytime, anywhere, day or night, not just in the school yard (Smith et al., 2008).” (Procon. (24 O). Retrieved from http://socialnetworking.procon.org/) For example “Jamey Rodemeyer in 2011 a 14-year-old boy from Williamsville, NY, took his life after what his parents claim was years of bullying because of struggles with his sexuality. His parents, Tracy and Tim Rodemeyer, say that Jamey faced bullies for years, though things intensified in middle school, according to NBC 2. According to NBC, the Rodemeyers had gone to the school about the problem in the past. Jamey even sought

Imagine that every time you log into your Facebook account you look at your inbox hoping that each day will be different, only to find a plethora of messages filled with cruel insults, taunting, and name calling from classmates. “No one likes you!” “You’re an idiot!” How would that make you feel? One can reason that victims of cyberbullying should grow tougher skin and stand up to their attackers or stop visiting social networking sites all together as a response to bullying. It’s hard to sympathize with a victim of bullying if you’ve never been bullied or have always played the role of the bully. In their article Are Social Networking Sites Harmful, Abraham Foxman and Cyndi Silverman (2011) argues that cyberbullying is more threatening than anything we’ve ever see before, therefore, such crimes should be made punishable by law. While I agree that cyberbullying should not be taken lightly, people need to understand that bullying, be it traditional or through social networking sites, can have long-lasting negative effects on its victims, it’s dangerous, and both types equally need to be taken more seriously.
The natural end of every human life is death. Some people, for reasons that have never been fully understood, choose to end their own lives. This is called suicide, which means literally ?self-killing?. For all the uncertainty that has surrounded the phenomenon of suicide, this assessment of the problem is probably as accurate as any. The individual seemingly hopeless conflict with the world, decides to end his or her existence in what amounts to a final assault against a society that can no longer be tolerated. In so doing, the person tries to obtain a final revenge on everything and everyone that has caused their feelings of depression.
In a sardonic black comedy, The Fleeting Little Life of Peter Wright takes a deathly serious issue and uses it to make some humorous commentary on life.
The definition of suicide is the act of killing oneself. Per data collected by the American Association of Suc 2010 Final Data Report , there is an average of one person every 13.7 minutes that commits suicide and that suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in the United States at the time of the reports compilation. With studies proving suicide to be such a viable option for some, there arise the questions of morality concerning suicide. Is it ever an acceptable course of action? If so, under what circumstances might suicide be considered reasonable? Are there circumstances where the act of killing oneself is justifiable? Does one’s position in society or religious background determine the validity in one’s belief’s on
Social Networking has taken bullying to the extreme. Before advanced technology, children and teenagers were troubled by school bullies. Today, they are targeted by bullies via internet. Most people undergo some form of bullying in life. Growing up, I experienced the typical name calling and spiteful comments. I also dealt with minor cases of virtual bullies. These bullies are known as cyber bullies. I find this topic compelling because it’s a matter that has spiraled out of control.
“Have you thought about physician assistance with suicide, Mrs. Ramsey? It is legal here in California,” Doctor Oobleck asked. “You’re husband has injuries that are far too severe for modern surgeries and natural recovery.”
School bullying can occur during every stage of development from Kindergarten through High school. Students suffer harmful effects when they are emotionally and physically abused. Schools must take active measures to end this ongoing injustice of students and help school yard bullies in understanding the effects of their actions. The victims of bullying suffer from emotional distress, and they often have difficulties making friends. School bullies may demonstrate their ‘power’ in several ways. School bullies may mock peers, spread vicious rumors, play cruel pranks, or use physical force to instill fear in their target. Furthermore, cyber-bullying is a growing trend in this technologically advanced society. Children often have unsupervised access to sites such as Facebook and twitter. These sites make it effortless for school bullies to harass his or her peers.
Today, bullies can simply connect to the Internet and create aliases (real or anonymous) through free e-mail services, instant messaging
Before elaborating on what causes suicide it should be understood what we mean by cause. The Oxford English Dictionary defines cause as “a person or thing that gives rise to an action, phenomenon or condition.” This essay will in part examine the methods employed
Suicide, a heavy word and a touchy subject for most. Most people shut down when they hear this word, especially if they have a close relation to suicide through a friend, classmate, or family member. Suicide has always been an issue; unfortunately nowadays, most teens and young adults form it as a joke such as “This homework is so hard, I want to KMS.” It is especially a major issue in teens to middle aged men and women; In 2015, suicide was the second leading cause of death in people 15 to 34 years of age (Pappas 2017). Suicide is a quick chain reaction of emotions, it never affects just one person but everyone around that one person. It touches people both mentally and emotionally. Suicide, as a issue, has been constantly growing due to it happening more frequently and getting popularized on social media. As a result, people…………
Depression affects everyone's life at sometime or another. Depression comes in a wide variety of forms, from mild unhappiness to a chemical imbalance in the mind. There are many different symptoms that reveal a person's problem with depression. If left untreated, depression may continue to develop into a serious illness or even death.
Picture this: One day you get a text message. It’s from your significant other. They say, “You have to just do it. You have everything you need. There is no way you can fail. Tonight is the night. It’s now or never (Murdock, 2017).” That’s what happened to Conrad Roy III. He ended up committing suicide in his own truck in a parking lot because of his significant others encouraging words to “just do it”. What is suicide? Suicide is classified as the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. Let’s look further into suicide: What are the facts about suicide, does bullying cause suicide, what stressors are associated with suicide, which kids are at higher risk of committing suicide, are kids talking about suicide but it’s going unnoticed, and lastly, can
“Cyber bullies can hide behind a mask of anonymity online, and do not need direct physical access to their victims to do unimaginable harm.” I believe this quote significantly summarizes the cowards who take advantage of others through the power of electronics. Verbal bullying has always happened in schools, but cyber bullying has become a significant problem amongst teenagers. Electronic access to social media outlets such as facebook, twitter, vine and snapchat, has made it easy for people to bully others and since there is no physical contact; it makes the consequences seem less severe. Despite the absence of physical contact or audible insults, cyber bullying can be even more traumatizing than traditional forms of bullying. It takes guts to pick on a person in school, and bully him/her. It takes no guts to hide behind a screen and rip somebody apart; and that is where the problem lies. With advancements in contemporary technology, the spread of information is a quick process that can reach an individual’s friends, family, and acquaintances in a matter of minutes. Consequently, the discomfiture, disgrace, and other more severe consequences of bullying can become even more severe. Therefore, the issue has become so grave that schools had to address the problem and cyber bulling is now considered a crime. People being cyber bullied are skipping school, skipping classes, dropping out, and in some cases, ending their lives prematurely.
Suicide is merely defined as, the action of killing oneself intentionally. Suicide is often times a very complex thing and can arise many types of questions. Some questions that may arise while talking about suicide are as so: Is suicide every justified? Is this considered suicide? Is suicide ever for the good of others? In this essay I hope to address some of the topics of suicide that really challenge one to think. This papers discussion will come from the film Seven Pounds and Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. This film has really made me dive into the deep thinking that surrounds suicide. The film has opened my eyes to viewing suicide in a whole new way.
