Suicide Bombers
What makes a suicide bomber? Is it religions upbringing with promises of paradise in reward for acts of martyrdom? Is it the parental support he or she receives for his convictions? Is it society with no means of fighting back against oppression and humiliation? (http://www.israelinsider.com/channels/security/articles/sec0049.htm). In this paper I will discuss the characteristics of a suicide bomber, their mission, as well as discuss suicide attacks.
Suicide Bombers Suicide bombers are said to believe that God sends them on their missions, and by the time they are ready to be stopped with explosives, they had reached a hypnotic state. (http://www.israelinsider.com/channels/security/articles/sec0049.htm) As

Suicide attacks by terrorists are occurring more often, however, it is nothing new. Suicide attacks can be traced back to the Jewish Sicaris in the 1st century, among Moslem Hashishiyum in the 11th century, and among the Asians in the 18th century. (http://www.ict.org.il) Members of the Palestinian organization perpetrated high-risk attacks, which almost cross the border into the realms of suicide terrorism in the early twentieth century. (http://www.ict.org.il) Modern suicide terrorism is unique. In the last two decades, one or more persons who are aware they are ?human time bombs? have carried out suicide attacks. Suicide attacks depend primarily on whether the perpetrator is killed. (http://www.ict.org.il) If the mission is not complete, then it is not complete, and then it
In order to attempt to deter a possible recruit of suicide terrorism, these recruits would need to look at the big picture and realize that in order to create a lasting impression they could accomplish a whole lot more in the living form. Instead these suicide groups create a lasting impression of the martyrs
Suicide terrorism is frequently associated with irrational behavior. In the article “The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism” written by Robert A. Pape, he asserts that suicide terrorism are strategies of rational thinking. Furthermore, he claims that leaders of terrorist organizations utilize suicide terrorism, as a form of coercion. Thus, he characterizes suicide terrorism as a rational and strategic act amongst the leaders of terrorist organizations to achieve their political objectives. Although Pape constructed a significant correlation between coercion, suicide terrorism, and success. The article, however, fails to present a well-balanced argument, opposing viewpoints, and lacked sufficient

In the novel, The Attack, by Yasmina Khadra, the suicide bomber is a young female who appeared to be very innocent. When individuals experience an act of violence, which may put them
Isis Cult in Egypt and Rome The worship of Isis originated in Egypt where she held various positions and roles extending from myth describing her as sister, and wife of Osiris. These involved being mother and protector of her son Horus, symbolic mother of the king, goddess of “cosmic associations”, “great of magic”, and mourner, maintainer, and protector of the deceased (Wilkinson 2003, pp. 146-149). Knowledge of Isis spread through the contact of sailors, merchants, and soldiers (Wortham 2006, p.104), directly impacting Roman religious tradition.
The modern day suicide bomber is effective in the sense that they do cause fear and death but is greatly overused that they rarely become news worthy. Immediately after the 9/11 attacks, the suicide bomber became all the rage and the ultimate fear of Americans. After ten years of war in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, the suicide bomber is cliché to the terrorist ideology and borderline boring and expected. Terrorists want to cause fear in a sense that causes a domino effect of destruction. Though the suicide bomber is effective, there is nothing more effective than the use of a biological attack in a crowded area. It is quiet, lethal and takes a long time to detect the source and even longer time to trace it back to a suspect. Within
Over the past decades suicide terrorism has confirmed its effective tactic and it is seem to be developing and growing movement. Terrorism is designed to cause panic within people, communities and countries but also to gain the publicity through media. Suicide terrorism, more than other forms of terrorist activities is presenting determination and dedication both of dying by individual terrorist as well as the desire to kill innocent people. Suicide terrorism is an attractive tool for terrorist activities with guarantee media publicity with the international dimension. The aim of the attacks is to draw attention of governments, international organisations and
Suicide terrorism is one of those acts of violence that is almost impossible to defend against. In his article, Atran (2003) explains suicide terrorism as “the targeted use of self-destructing humans against noncombatant-typically civilian-populations to effect political change” (pg. 1534). One of the most remembered dates is American history is September 11, 2001. This was a day in which suicide terrorism took the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans (History.com, 2010). This suicide attack is where 19 Al-Qaeda followers hi-jacked four airplanes and used them to crash them into the World Trade Center in New York and into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. This triggered the then President, George W. Bush to declare war to “destroy Osama bin Laden’s terrorist network based there” (History.com, 2010). Osama bin Laden was Al-Qaeda leader that claimed responsibility of the suicide attack on the United States. This type of use of suicide terrorism was not only used to kill many innocent people, but to be televised and reported on to put fear into the
Every suicide attacker has their own specific reason to achieve their objective, whether it be a means of expressing their thoughts or feelings, their religious calling, or their social status in their community. An obvious example of this relates to one of the most devastating events in all of U.S. history, 9/11. Although only nineteen hijackers participated in the attacks, the devastation caused by this small group of individuals had led to the death and/or injury of 2,977 victims. As a result,
Paradise Now is a 2-hour film released in 2005, it depicts a perspective alternative in a highly controversial topic of suicide bombers or also known as a ‘martyr’. The movie takes place in Palestine during the Israeli occupation and illustrates the mundane life and frustration felt by the main characters Said and Khaled due to the oppression experienced during the conflict. A key feature that is also portrayed is the reasoning, and almost justification of an attack on that level. However, the perpatrators can be seen showing feelings of hesitance and even inquisitiveness in relation to the afterlife that they are promised and whether violent resistance is the last option. This paper, will discuss how “Paradise Now” provoked my views and
Suicide bombing refers to the act whereby an individual delivers explosives personally and then detonates them so as to cause greatest possible destructions, killing her or himself in the process (Asad, 2007). It is used by many militia groups, since it does not demand for experience or usage of a lot of resources but only requires a willing individual and explosives. Due to the fact that suicide bombers kill
During the Iraq war, Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), the United States was introduced to suicide terrorism, which was used to threaten and exterminate the Iraqi security forces and to start a civil war amongst the Shi’i and Sunni Muslims (Hafez 2006). To dictate when a suicide attack is approaching, there are two developments that are involved: one is on the battlefield and the other in the political arena (Hafez 2006). On the battlefield, insurgents want to show their enemies and supporting audience they will not be intimidated, nor will they surrender their motives in the face of repression (Hafez 2006). In the public arena, suicidal terrorism arose “after the January 2005 elections for an assembly to draft a new Iraqi constitution, endorsement
The Arabic word Jihad literally means "holy struggle". It is not holy war. War is war. No war can be holy. The blood of humans is holy and sacred. The Quran says unjust killing of one man means the killing of the whole mankind. What is just killing and what is unjust killing. When some body kills a man without any reason or justification it is unjust killing. When the judge gives the capital punishment to this murderer and issues the order of his death, it is a just killing. Similarly, when a war is thrust upon you and you become the victim of persecution and aggression, you are permitted to defend yourselves and kill the invaders or perpetrators. There are some Muslims who believe in Jihad in the name of aversion and conversion.

Suicide terrorism does not always have to be an attack on the United States from a different country with different cultural values. Suicide terrorism can come from American citizens. More current events are mass shootings by American citizens against their own people. One event is the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. This attack was where Adam Lanza started by killing his own mother, and then moved on to Sandy Hook Elementary where he took the lives of “Twenty children and six adults” (Connecticut Shootings Fast Facts, 2017, para. 2). After this act of violence, Adam Lanza committed suicide. Another more recent mass shooting attack was the mass shooting in Las Vegas. This attack was carried out by Stephen Paddock. Stephen Paddock, in his attack killed 58 and wounded around 500 people before taking his own life (Yan, & Park, 2017).
