Out of the drugs that are popular in Toledo, heroine and cocaine are two of the most popular to be abused. Although there are many illegal drugs that are popular, one drug popular among many college campuses for abuse is Adderall and although it is prescribed for legal use many abuse it illegally. Adderall has many short and long term effects that show their many effects not only physiologically but psychologically as well. Many of these effects are felt both by people who use the drug for medical purposes and for those who abuse the drug, but many of the negative effects are mostly felt by those who abuse Adderall. Positively, Adderall increases the heart rate and the blood flow to the muscles (Effects of Adderall Use, 2015). Of the short-term negative side effects there is a chance a person may experience weight loss or loss of appetite which could lead to malnutrition and other effects such as dry mouth, trouble sleeping, restlessness, and other cardiac issues such as an irregular heart rhythm or increased blood pressure (Effects of Adderall Use, 2015). Out of 7 million Americans who abuse prescription drugs about 1.1 million of those people abuse stimulants such as Adderall (Sciuto, 2013). In 2005, it was found that 2.3 million teenagers abused prescription stimulants, which means drugs such as Adderall and Ritalin (Prescription Drug Abuse Statistics, 2015). This is an extremely large number of people who abuse this drug and who may suffer many of the negative consequences of abusing a stimulant. Although it is hard to find statistics on deaths on statistics only based on Adderall use and abuse, there are many deaths associated with prescription drug use and abuse of stimulants. In 2005, out of the millions of drug-related hospital visits there were almost 600,000 visits associated with prescription drugs (Prescription Drug Abuse Statistics, 2015). Prescription drugs that year were also responsible for more deaths than many street drugs combined (Prescription Drug Abuse Statistics, 2015). Prescription drugs, such as Adderall, cause many deaths and the use of drugs such as prescription drugs may also increase the risk of

When growing up, nothing is more frustrating then giving your best effort in your school work and continuously being unsuccessful. The effect it can have on a child is very damaging. Students may feel inadequate and non-intelligent in the classroom setting growing up, not to mention, being confused all at the same time about why school is such an ongoing battle for them. Why are these children trying so hard and never having any success? It is more and more common today; more than ever we see children having these problems inside and outside of classrooms all over the world. Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can become very problematic in a child’s
Ritalin and Adderall are both stimulants used to treat the symptoms of ADHD and narcolepsy. The cause of ADHD is not completely understood, but ADHD is believed to be a neurobiological disorder. One reason is that Adderall literally consists of amphetamines, so it definitely has abuse and addiction potential. Amphetamines are chemically similar to methamphetamine, which is the main ingredient in a street drug named crystal math (Hart). We all know that crystal meth is highly addictive and ruined many lives. Since, when have you heard about anything positive resulting from abusers of crystal meth? If considering chasing the euphoria as a positive, then please ask the meth users about their current situation in regards to livelihoods. The comparison between users of Adderall without a prescription and “meth-heads” might be a bit dramatic. Millions of people throughout the world are taking drugs on a daily basis. If you were to ask someone why they take prescription drugs, most people would be taking them for the right reason. In the modern world of college, an excessive use of the academic steroid, Adderall, has become an easily acquired study drug. It is important to note that Adderall use is becoming an increasingly prevalent issue among students, and can no longer be ignored. Many medical professionals have discovered the benefits of regularly taking Adderall, but unfortunately have unknowingly contributed to the ease of attainability of the academic steroid. Some may argue that the enhancer acts as a remedy to the growing need for focus, when in fact this resolution has led to a whole new set of overwhelming problems such as addiction and unnecessary use.
Drug overdose from medications designed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are on the rise. This is likely due to an overwhelming amount of children, nearly 3 million, prescribed medication for ADHD each year (Spiller, Hays, & Aleguas, 2013). ADHD affects nearly 10% of the national population and is rising due to newer diagnostic criteria (Levine, et al., 2013). In the past, ADHD was only diagnosed in school aged children, but new studies suggest that diagnosis can be made in the preschool age as well (Levine, et al., 2013). Because of the new age criteria affecting more young children, the number of prescription of ADHD drugs will rise each year which will increase the amount of ADHD prescription overdose (Adis, 2014).

The effects of drug use can vary depending on the person. According to “Causes and types of narcotic addiction: A Psychosocial View” in the Psychiatric Quarterly it says, “The causes of drugs stem from the manner of which you were introduced to it whether it be by abnormal curiosity, chance encounters with addicts and narcotic peddlers, or prolonged illness” (Ausubel). The effects of drugs can be have different effects on everyone differently depending if its for pleasure or for relieving pain Most of the effects of drugs occur in the brain, where it increases the level of dopamine at a specific site possibly giving the addict the pleasure they were feigning for (Robbins). As a child I didn’t know much about drugs except for what your parents and teachers at school tell you which is, “Just Say No.”
