The physical-environmental geography of Sub-Saharan Africa relates to the distribution of human and economic activities in several ways. First, Sub-Saharan Africa is a peripheral that supplies raw materials, food, and cheap labor to the main industrial countries. The physical geography makes survival had for those not working in agriculture. It is the most productive way for people to make a living and feed their large families. In recent years, there has been major movement from rural-to-urban environments. Migration to major cities has caused extreme overcrowding and poor living conditions.
The physical-environmental geography of Sub-Saharan Africa has a major affect on economic activities. The informal region of the country is not ruled, monitored, or taxed so income is not accounted for. Human activity in these areas involves conducting business with no regulations and no direct impact on the economy. The

Each has its own separate identity and practices that often conflict with another dating back to the slave trade and the formation of colonial political boundaries and policies. These boundaries and policies intensified civil wars driven by historical ethnic hostilities that are prevalent today and influence human and economic activity. Millions of people have died as a result of the civil war in The Congo. Fighting continues between various over political control or control over natural resources like diamonds and gold. In addition many countries have suffered economic breakdowns as a result of demanding political unrest. These activities and environmental affects identified can cause climate stresses like extreme poverty. One major impact is frequent natural disasters such as droughts and floods that influence agricultural production. When climate impacts human and economic activities it further increases the vulnerability of a
During the post-classical period, there was islam everywhere. You could see it in architecture, in laws and codes, and in the people themselves; but as islam diffused throughout eurasia, several places received it differently. The different impacts that islam had on these individual is shown in the prime examples of south asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. In both of these countries, Islam allowed trade to flourish and facilitated the spread of knowledge, but as the religion spread to different regions, who converted and how it affected political empire varied greatly, dependant on the region and culture involved.
On the vast continent of Africa, there are fifty-three countries; of these only six are not located below the Sahara Desert. This leaves the Sub-Saharan region of Africa to encompass a total of forty-seven countries. Many of these countries south of the Sahara have been in state failure, either partial or complete collapse of state authority. This has led to an inability to
Attention Deficit with hyper activity Disorder commonly known as ADHD is classified as a disruptive behavior disorder usually diagnosed in childhood. ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed behavior disorder of childhood. It appears to be more common in boys than it is girls. This Disorder is more common in boys than in girls and approximately five in one hundred children are affected (Busing). There are three subtypes: Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, predominantly inattentive, combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive (most children have the combined type of ADHD)(nimh.nih.gov).The age of onset of ADHD is usually in preschool to early elementary school years.
A major challenge and cause of serious medical issues in Sub-Saharan Africa is the lack of access to a clean water supply. There are 345 million people that lack access to water in Africa. Unfortunately, when water is available it is high in contamination. When wells are built and water sanitation facilities are developed, they cannot be maintained properly to due to limited financial resources. Water quality testing is not performed as often as necessary and the people are unaware that the water may not be safe to drink. Oftentimes, when a source of water has been provided, the quantity of water is often given more attention over the quality of. Lack of clean drinking is the leading cause of diarrheal diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa and causes 7.7% of deaths in Africa. Diarrhea is caused by numerous bacterial, viral and parasitic organisms most of which can be spread by contaminated water. The importance of diarrheal diseases has mostly been overlooked. Through UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) there have been some accomplishments during the
Numbers in the interest groups are important for several reasons. The leaders use numbers as a way to encourage other people to join the groups or movements. For example, people will feel more comfortable to join a movement by seeing how many people are already in the movements. Another reason why numbers are important is because leaders can have a better argument when talking about a policy or issue just providing numbers. For example, if an interest group focus on more employment, then the leaders can discuss the unemployment rate and how it affect the lives of the individuals of the groups.
In Somalia, no one is spared from crisis. Children and health workers have been murdered and kidnapped. People fight over food and water, adding another burden to citizens of Somalia who are already struggling to get through resource droughts. In a country with no central government, little happens without trauma-force. As resources continue to diminish, conflict arises when there are very little resources and Somalis all want to have priority (Unicef, 2006). Before environmental resource scarcity in Somalia is discussed in depth, let’s take a closer look at the physical and human geography in the country, global climate change and its impact on Somalia’s vegetation, the evolution of Somalia during the colonial and imperial periods, and many Somali conflicts that cause to be in crisis (in no particular order), even today.
The author’s of Emma, Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre use tone and setting to grab the reader’s attention. Tone and setting presents underlying situations to give reason to continue reading. In these three chapters the tone of each chapter are vastly different. Some tones will be dark while others are mournful, romantic and lonely.
When I think of Sub-Saharan Africa I see the complete opposite of The United States. I think of poverty, no Internet & cell phones( no texting, social media), no malls/shopping centers. I think of villages and people having farms and growing crops. Africa is approximately 15 of earths land & even with one of the largest countries in the world, it is one of the lest developed countries. However, even though Africans economy is not where it is suppose to be, West Africa is becoming more developed & offers more economic opportunities than other parts of Africa. Many tribes are moving towards West Africa to start a better life for themselves & and their families. However Africa needs more infrastructure which includes; high speed highways, railroads
This was an interesting post that included several different elements about the effect geography had on the development of Africa. The key point about Africa is realizing how diverse it is in many different aspects. The continent has a wide variety of cultures, environments, and wildlife as you have mentioned. With these different environments, each culture had various elements that influenced how they were developed (Duiker and Spielvogel). As you mentioned, the cultures in North Africa were blocked off by the massive Sahara Desert. The cultures in that region had to adapt to find resources and make connections with other cultures across the continent. One of the most important resources that civilizations need is water. Before the
Sudan is an interesting country in Africa. My dad is from there and I wanted to learn more about it. I chose to research about their politics, like their political parties, geography, like the different landmarks, and the wildlife there, like plants and animals.
Sub Saharan Africa ,over 800 million people and 40 countries is a very large land mass surrounded by flat, elevated landforms, basins, the Sahel, Savannas, Rift Valleys, Deserts, Plateaus, Rain Forests. The highest area of Sub- Saharah is the Great Rift Valley which forms deep valleys, volcanos and lakes. The Great Rift Valley is most prominent physical feature in East Africa. The landscape of Sub Sahara Africa is mostly red soil, food crops and bright blue skies, animal herds, rivers that run thru the rain forest and deserts. Plateaus and basins make up for much of Africas physical geography. Sub saharan Africa is considered an elevated land mass, but it does not have high mountain ranges or deep valleys. The four major rivers of Sub-Saharan
It is evident that the climate of the world is changing and has been since the creation of the earth but over that past decade the change had begun to occur more rapidly. With this occurrence of climate change is the occurrence of violent conflict among humans. In most parts of the world the climate change impacts social ecological systems such as temperature, sea level, and annual precipitation. Other occurrence have just increased in intensity and frequency such as floods, droughts, storms, cyclones, fires, heat-waves, epidemics and hurricanes. Yet these environmental changes do not undermine human security but they do assist in the use up of the natural resources that humans need to maintain the “normal” daily life and most importantly survive.
Extreme poverty, poverty is one of the biggest dilemma facing the issue of sustainable development in Africa. Poverty in Africa is linked to the environment in complex ways, particularly in natural resource-based African economies. About two-thirds of the populations in African countries live in rural areas, deriving their main source of income from agriculture. African economies are historically indigenous economies. Trees are cut for fuel wood,
Many studies have demonstrated the idea that institutions are the main factor of economic development because empirical evidence points to strong institutions being able to determine large growth of GDP per capita. Although the characteristics of strong institutions can be described as the potential fundamental cause of economic growth, the effects of geography and materials available to different certain regions have a huge hand in properly developing a society economically and allowing for further growth. The resources of the countries heavily depend on the raw materials available to each region and the kinds of animals they are able to domesticate. This is where the argument circulates around in which geography is a large determinant of whether a civilization or society can prosper in a certain area or not.
The aim of this report is to discover the inequalities in Africa. This will be done by analysing the 3 main topics economic, environmental and social aspects of wellbeing in Africa. Located on the southern end of the African continent, north of Zimbabwe and Mozambique and surrounded by Atlantic ocean and Indian ocean is a continent that Covers 1 221 040 square kilometres. South Africa only takes over 4%of the lands area but is 3 times the size of Texas and 5 times bigger than Great Britain. The estimated population of South Africa in 2013 was 52.982 it shows a big growing raise throughout each year. This country holds a variety of different races and religions like white, dark, Christian and some other major religions.
