Being Student Body Vice president was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever been a part of. I know that many kids think it is lame and has no point, but for me it really felt good to have a say in what went on at my high school. Student council is a very eclectic group from the band kids to the football jocks. Another thing that is different than most things I have been a part of was the fact that all grades were together. Up until student council I had never been a part of an organization where everyone was so different. It was great to have people from all different walks of life because then student council really was representing the whole school, but this also brought on many worries for me. From the first day the teacher had told me that I would be the one doing most of the in class …show more content…
I proceeded to tell her how I knew the football guys and cheerleaders were going to take it as a joke and how the band kids would only want to plan weird events that no one would go to. I had gone into this so excited and now, after just one day, I was ready to quit. My mom told me I should stick it out longer, so I did. The next few weeks we were planning homecoming, and to my surprise the band kids had great ideas and the popular kids actually showed up to meeting to help plan. In a weird way everyone’s very different personalities just began to jive together. With homecoming just 2 days away everyone’s ideas had come together and all that was left was the setup. I was super happy, but still being a little pessimistic. Homecoming had come and went and we were having a student council party at my house to celebrate. Everyone at this point was friends and mingling around until our teacher said he had an announcement. He told us that this was the most successful dance the school had ever had and that we raised almost 50% more than all years past. Everyone was
As a Vice President in this club I felt strongly about including opinions from various different types of students. I believe that a full representation of the student body includes not just one perspective, but various. Also, I was very active in getting the resources for my class, so we had the funds to complete activities that were very important to us. I did so by organizing many fundraisers throughout the year. One in particular was Chipotle Night. Which is in collaboration with the restaurant chain. A night is promoted where students go purchase food there and a percentage of the sales comes back to the fundraiser.
I was ecstatic when at the end of the year the list came up with my name for each of the clubs, I was so prepared to be a leader for the following year, what I did not realize at the time was that the people I would work with
During 8th grade at Howard D. McMillan Middle, I believed one person could make a difference if they just set their mind to do so. Our school had many restrictions and few student activities. Early that year I became interested in Student Government (S.G.) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), so I decided to run for President of both clubs hoping to make a change.
The final mast of school and community involvement was catalyzed when I joined Key Club as a freshman. Finding a passion for service and leadership, it rapidly became my primary focus in deepening my high school experience. Key Club inspired me to search for further opportunities for leadership and involvement, leading me to join Student Council, Relay for Life, and so forth. Through my various executive positions, I have not only improved my own character and qualities, but also inspired others around me to do the
Marie and I had just left her house and were walking to the tryouts. It was a really quick walk because she lives only 2 houses away from the studio. This was back in August 2017, a few days after dance camp ended for the summer. We hurried down the stairs to go inside and kept talking about how nervous and excited we were the whole way down. Once we got inside of Bleker’s, we started talking to the other girls. After just a few minutes we were all taken into the dance room and together we all learned a hip hop, jazz, and tap routine. We only had about 30 minutes to learn all of the routines so we were all feeling a little rushed. Before we knew it, the dance teachers put us into groups of 3-5 girls. These groups were the people we would perform our dance routines with. My group was Meghan S, Grace, and I.
Student Council and the National Honor Society both share a common purpose: helping others. I have been a representative for my grade in Student Council for three of my high school years and a National Honor Society member for two. In the National Honor Society, I have served as president throughout my senior year. Coincidentally, one of the four pillars of the National Honor Society is service, a component in a good citizen. As a National Honor Society president, I have helped coordinate a blood drive and assisted in others, provided support to the students who struggle socially or academically, and coordinated award presentations to a majority of the student body. The other side, Student Council, has also provided for me a way to help others and be a good citizen. Through Student Council, I have displayed citizenship through boosting school morale, volunteering for various school events and creating and approving new, innovative plans to make school life better. As an active, volunteering student, I hope that I made a positive impact, big or small, both inside and outside of the
I became a member of my school`s SGA during my freshman year in an effort to become more active in school life. The other members and I have done many activities to improve our school and encourage school spirit. We also did many fundraising activities for our school.
The NAACP Aiken Youth Council was an experience that would never forget. When I first join I was surprised that the youth run the meets instead of the adults. It was a new experience that I was willing to take. I gain that by working in a Youth Council that the young people can create activities that the community can participate and In addition, some of the activities could make other youths want to join, too. Then it makes the youth know how to act in a council setting. Also, be able to be part of different committees to perform their specific task. I was the assistant secretary of the youth council. My job was to be the backup secretary when the actual secretary couldn’t make it, which was reading the minutes and taking notes. Plus, I help
“The most rewarding part of being in student council is we get to help our school and do great things for our students,”Student Council member sophomore Madison Inman
I am in my school’s Student Council, which I am currently acting as the President. It has a lot of work in it, as much as my school work, but I stay in it because I enjoy doing it. My goal as President this year is to run the Council as efficiently and effectively as possible and create robust communication from the Council to the administration to voice the student body’s wishes, and wish to continue in the future. Because of this, I would like to get involved with student representation on campus to develop my leadership and responsibility skills even more. Getting involved with the student population would further my understanding of unique individuals and how people define themselves, as UPenn is a melting pot of different cultures and diversity. This would help me develop the communicative skills needed in order to participate in team
I have been attending Anthem Prep for five consecutive years and I am applying the role of Freshman Class Representative. To make it more interesting for our students to get involved, Anthem Prep has been making changes to its student life and topics relating to it. Though our school has made significant progress, I believe the upcoming student government will improve our student body and their lives on campus.
I still remember it to this day my dad came home told me about this dance group that was starting in community and he ask me did I wanted to join I told him yes as long as it was hip hop and he said it was. After that little discussion next day I signed up with a group of four girls and I was the only guy and I did not mind because we still did hip hop and I got to freestyle little bit. At that time, I did not know what we going to have to perform in front of an audience. I also did not know how huge the
Entering high school, I met a senior that after talking to for a long while he became a close friend. He told me that he played the guitar and I told him that i've been playing the drums for 8 years so I talked to him about starting a band together. Once he got on board with my plan I made a schedule so we could practice at least 3 times a week. My friend told me that his cousin could get us a gig so I decided to talk to his cousin. After talking to his cousin, he told me about backyard shows and how lots of bands go and play there on Friday nights. He ended up getting us a gig to be the opening band in a show that his friend was hosting. I was excited even though I knew being the opening band wasn't the greatest thing ever, but I was glad that we were performing. Once we finished playing our songs, I was kind of disappointed in the fact that not so many people got to listen to us. After that I told myself that I'll be as well know as the better band that played.
I walk out of the practice room I see the time is 6:30 I asked my music teacher “What can I do.” She responded with “Take these signs and tape and go
Yes, I have been on student council for a year. I was selected by the Student Council Executive Board my freshman year. I was involved with student council by helping create decorations for homecoming, as well as attending and cleaning up after it. I was also apart of the committee that created the games for Boo Bash and I helped work Boo Bash. Another dance I helped set up for was Vice Versa and I attended it. I regularly attended the student council meetings.
