Can one pretend that community colleges compete with each other to seem better than the other? Kirkwood and Hawkeye are two community colleges in Iowa, both north of Mount Pleasant. Being that these colleges are not the same they have strengths and weaknesses. They also have some attributes in common. Location and job opportunities, activities and clubs, and expenditure are very important elements to look at when deciding which community college would be most beneficial to attend. Hawkeye community college is located in rural Waterloo, about two hours away from Mount Pleasant. Being in a town of about 68,000 people and ten to fifteen minutes away from Cedar Falls, a town of 40,000 people, there are a few job opportunities for undergraduates …show more content…

Cedar Rapids is home to about 128,000 people and neighbors Iowa City, which is home to about 70,000 people. If attending Kirkwood, one would have a lot more opportunities with the careers varying quite a bit more due to the increase in people and ideas. Depending on what kind of person one is, activities and clubs can be a major factor in deciding which college to go to. Hawkeye offers a few different clubs going from art and literature to business, business professionals of American, to leadership groups, etc. One leadership group is called student ambassadors. The students involved in this organization help with campus tours, and visits. They also have several club sports and activities that people can be involved in, some include: dance team, trap shooting, golf, and wellness club.
Kirkwood offers similar student led clubs. There is almost a club for every major: accounting club, dental lad technologies, etc. Kirkwood also offers business professionals of America and a student ambassador program just as Hawkeye does. Student ambassadors that attend Kirkwood help with TGIF, which is a specific tour for Kirkwood. Unlike Hawkeye, Kirkwood offers several varsity sports which consist of men's and women's basketball, softball, baseball, women's volleyball and men's
