Stratified Monopoly
With a few minor adjustments to the monopoly game you can simulate stratified social classes within our society. The purpose was to see how successful each player would be in the game, the game was simulating a controlled life. Our class system is divided primarily into three groups. The three groups(classes) are upper, middle, and lower/working class.
The four players represent our socio economic classes; player one is the upper class, player two is middle class, player three is the lower class, and finally is player four. Player four who does not adhere to any classes represents those who live below the poverty line or those that don't make a sustainable living wage. Free parking represents incentives that most commonly affect the upper and middle classes. These are things like tax deductions or stock market options. Basically, it shows that things are setup in our society that inherently benefit those who can take risks or literally spend

Both players were able to purchase the high equity estates the game offers. However, the two other players had a hard time after the first couple passes of the game. I player one was able to purchase a lot of property. There was times where I had less money than the other players but I had the most property so it still gave me the upper hand. Whenever someone landed on my land they owed me money. So even though they had the money I had all the power, the money only came in handy for them when they needed to pay. I had monopolized the whole board and at that point in the game no player stood a chance. Player four was the first one to be out, they simply couldn't progress with what life had given them. I don't think the lower class players could when because the upper and middle class players were able to acquire property so much faster than the lower class. It's hard to be successful in a world that's going against
The concept of social class has been around for ages and is still a part of today’s society. Social class is not only based on the individual’s wealth but also on their social standing such as; monarchs, priests, nobles, merchants, and peasant class. The peasant class was practically ignored, which means that the higher classes would only pay attention to each other. This can be the case in society today, there are some people who feel that their career makes them higher than a janitor. Even though humans have been around for centuries, social class is still a big issue.
Each of these groups is stratified into its own class; the group of people ranked most closely to them in property, power, and prestige. A person’s position in the stratification system affects everything about their life, from what they think and expect in life to how they see the world, as well as what opportunities they will have access to. Although, your status is still assigned at birth, but you have the chance at upward social mobility based on material possessions that you acquire, or things that you achieve. Or you may be on the other end of the spectrum and experience downward social
Society is set up into a hierarchical triangle that essentially determines social class. A social class is any person or group of people with the same educational, social or economical status. Social class can be broken down into many different categories such as race, age, gender, economic status, educational status and many more. Social class can be measured in many different ways such as financial status, family values, appearance, and demeanor. In America there are six main economical social classes which are the: Very poor, Poor, Working class, Middle class, Upper middle class, and the ruling class.
All I ever needed to know about microeconomics I learned from the Hasbro board game Monopoly.
People consider that social stratification in the United States contains social classes such as upper class, middle class, and lower class. People who are categorizing in upper class not only have power and control over their own lives but also their social status gives them
The situation above is something many college students, especially those here at the University of California Riverside (UCR), are well aware of. Although there are tons of parking lots here at UCR, students still struggle to find a place to park. One of the main reasons is because of the increase in students attending across campuses all over the US. According to the National Center for Educational Statistic, “Between 2001 and 2011, enrollment increased 32 percent, from 15.9 million to 21.0 million.” As a result, the amount of parking spaces here at UCR could not compensate for the growing number of students. A lack of parking spaces can cause many detriments toward the students as it can hinder with their class schedules, cause them to either be late or miss a class, and overall affect their grades. If UCR implement a shuttle bus system for the empty parking lots that are far away from the school, students would be less stress about the parking
The school board meeting I attended was the Norris School District. The meeting was located at Norris Middle School in the Mary Louise Robinson Library. The address was 6940 Calloway Dr. at seven PM. The Norris school district contains four elementary schools and one middle school. Total number of elected board members are five. The board president is Cy Silver. They meet once a month on the second Wednesday. The board is required to address the reports from superintendent and staff. Such as enrollment, district proposition 39 California clean energy job acts funding, district cafeteria report, local control accountability plan progress report. They also discuss new business such as approving budgets and achievements. The general format of the meeting is the board members sit in the front of the general attendees and the president sits in the middle of all the board members. Staff members sit to the right and left of the board members. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and they spoke of the business like they actually cared.
B. Monopoly is a board game that originated in the United States in 1903 as a means of demonstrating that an economy which rewards wealth creation is better than one in which monopolists work under few constraints.
Social class refers to the system of stratification of the different groups of people in a society. These different forms of classification are, in most instances, based on gender ethnicity and age. Social class makes everyone’s lives extremely different. For example: How long one can expect to live. In a wide range of ways, from success, to one’s health class, social class influences people’s lives (Grusky,2003).
Economic stratification is the different rankings in social class are separated in different economic ways. These differences can vary from clothing, cars, perfumes, cigarette brands, etc. There are many ways you can tell what a person stratification is just by the way they look or the things they have. Usually these ranking go from lower class to middle class then the upper class. Each of these classes have very different ways of living and what they do to maintain a certain status.
Post-feminism in films can be a cliche, but the female protagonist in Kill Bill gives the role of feminism a better outlook. In the opening scene,it starts off with a non-digetic sound of a woman breathing heavily and then continues with an up-close shot of a brutalized bride on the floor and badly beaten. The scene jumps to an up-close shot of man walking towards the bride. The black and white scene indicates that a flashback is happening, and the low key lighting adds more mystery within the scene. Not yet knowing who the killer is,but the subjective point of view within that scene puts the viewer in the eyes of a murderer.Even though this man is not yet revealed, anyone could most likely guess that this man is Bill. For one,he uses what looks like
The death penalty has been an issue of controversy, causing many states in America to repeal it and call it inhumane. However, the truth is that many citizens are strongly divided on the issue and have strong opinions on whether the death penalty should indeed be kept and reinforced or whether it should just be abolished altogether. When analyzing this issue from a sociological perspective, conflict theory is best used as an argument against the death penalty. This sociological conflict theory is heavily tied in with class conflict a conflict that outlines how socioeconomic factors affect a group of disadvantaged people more so than those that are better off financially. It is because of the disproportionate number of lower class minorities that end up on death row that makes the death penalty an inhumane and cruel way of punishing individuals for crimes that they have committed.
Social class describes the different "layers" that exist in society. These "layers," or classes in society, are a division that civilization has been running on ever since the beginning of mankind. In most modern societies, our system of social class division is one of opportunity. We experience a good deal of social mobility, where people through generations or in their own lifetime can move up or down the social scale. By examining the many different perceptions of social class along with S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders, it is illustrated that social class has an impact on people while they are growing up, and will usually deny them from rising above adversity.
2 - Monopoly by definition means no competition. So, unsatisfied customers have nowhere else to take their business. Monopolies can treat their customers like scum and not lose any business. Again, they have little incentive for efficiency.
Social Class is a division of a society based on social and economic status. In today’s society there are three main social groups in America: upper, middle, and lower class; these rankings are contributed by mass amounts of factors, but one of the main factors that people cannot control is their race and ethnicity. Race and ethnicity, likewise as gender, can also play a part in a variety of other concerns such as, education level, income, and where you reside.
