Story Of My American Dream

The American Dream can mean different things depending on who is asked. Some will answer it is the freedom of religion, class or race, others will claim it is about the ability to choose where they want to work, what they want to wear, or what’s for breakfast the next day.

The American Dream was discussed in 1975 in a poem named “Ellis Island”. It talks about the dreams of most people expect, but in the end it results with many disappointments. For example, in the poem, it claims, “Waited the long days of quarantine, a Circle Line ship slips easily on its way to the island.” It represents to reality by giving the dreams of many Americans and immigrants were given and expected to have when they arrive in America. It also claims “Lands invaded when the earth became owned. Lands of those who followed the changing Moon, knowledge of the seasons in their veins.” This points out the disappointments in the American Dream because of how it changed the expectations that everyone is hoping for. So in my opinion, the American Dream is to become one whole justified country that shows defending, qualification and challenging our fellow American citizens for the liberty of all people to find pursuit of happiness.

My model of the American Dream can be viewed in numerous ways, it depends on how emotionally deep one is. My American Dream is to live life to the fullest.

The American Dream is that the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.

These could all easily be described as the American Dream. The American Dream can frequently change from time to time due to the time period. It can also change due to the age of the person at hand. Children grow up having these dreams, but who knows how long these dreams will last. Some elderly people develop new dreams or are still chasing to fulfill the dreams they’ve had since they were much younger. These dreams are all things that people want and desire to have. Some of these dreams are unrealistic and could never happen.

The American dream is the idea held by many in the United States of America that through hard work, courage and determination one can achieve prosperity.

Everyone has a dream. Whether it is to have a family, or even to become a psychiatrist, a dream is present in everyone. Those dreams are mainly referred to as “American Dreams.” Hard work is needed to be able to get anywhere in life. The American Dream is attainable if one is willing to put in the work to achieve it.

There is an ancient African adage that states “If you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start by lifting stones today”. As a first generation immigrant to the United States and reminiscent of countless other immigrants who have come before me, moving to a new country literally means starting your life all over again from scratch, but symbolically it signifies a rebirth of oneself and a chance to metamorphose into whatever new creature you aspire to be. Some of the challenges I faced included culture shock, language barriers, financial barriers, but the utmost significant one was the education barrier. I quickly realized that if I could bridge the education gap I would be able to overcome all the other barriers. For myself, having an education epitomized my assimilation into my new life by enabling me to chase my dreams and realize my unique American dream.

It is a part of each American; this dream has been the light at the end of the tunnel for which our parents and ancestors were coming for. To find a life that was rewarded and built only on their will of hard working and efforts.

Dreams are merely your own fantasies living within your mind. The American Dream is anything you believe it to be, all depending on each individual's mentality. If there was a better way of saying this, it would be like this: “Never let it be said that to dream is a waste of one’s time, for dreams are our realities in waiting. In dreams, we plant the seeds of our future” (unknown). The American Dream is a misconception for the ways that society has portrayed it to be. As how society paints a portrait in the minds of people, that America is only about freedom and equality where life comes easier than it does in other countries. We dream about the new fast car we want to purchase or that brand new iPhone at the Apple store but, how often can we say we are dreaming to live the American dream? The American dream is an idea expressed in the Declaration of Independence. The declaration protects life, liberty and happiness to those who seek it.
