At 1:05 pm students at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL gather their books and valentine’s day gifts as they make their way laughing and having fun with their group of friends to their last class period of the day while waving goodbye to the one friend whose class is in the opposite direction.

At 2:31pm school resource officer Scot Peterson orders police to begin a lockdown. All of this caused a slow response time on top of the fact that Peterson ordered officers to stay at least 500 feet away from the building.
At 2:33 pm after Cruz finished his spree he dropped his weapon and bag and ran down attempting to flee with the other students, he dropped his bag near the tennis court and went to a nearby Subway to buy a drink.
At 3:01 pm he goes to McDonald’s and at 3:41 pm he is arrested on Wyndham Lakes Drive.

He was taken to Broward Health North where he was treated alongside the students he had injured with his rifle that he had already owned before this day. He was then taken to Broward County Jail where he is currently on suicide watch. He was charged with 17 counts of pre-meditated murder. Everyone who came into contact with Cruz stated something was “off” about him due to his continuous talk about guns, knives, and killing animals. With his constant violent behavior, he was expelled from
Students tweeted that during lockdowns students can never be serious. Although it was the first incident to happen this school year, Students were hoping that the lockdown would be taken seriously and not as a joke. A photo was posted on twitter of the possible suspect. A joke was made about the picture saying “If Young Metro don’t trust you…”.
In the shooting Nikolas Cruz used a .222 caliber AR-15 rifle (Nicole Chavez, 2018, p. 11). Over the course of the shooting he killed twelve people in the school, and two outside of the school. Two people died in the hospital at a later time from the wounds they received from Nikolas (Nicole Chavez, 2018, p. 13). Nikolas was arrested around 3:40 PM around an hour after the shooting (Nicole Chavez, 2018, p. 38). Douglas High School announced that it would remain closed for the rest of the week following the incident (Nicole Chavez, 2018, p. 50).
12 of the killers were killed inside the school campus, 2 were killed in front of the school, 1 was on the street and 2 were hospitalized. The shooting named Nikolas Cruz was born in September 1998 (19 years old). A former school student who was dismissed for disciplinary reasons. Several reports said Nikolas Cruz was a member of the right-wing organization of the Republic of Florida, but the organization's leader said his group had nothing to do with the incident.
Reading about this devastating shooting made my heart sink. I do not understand how any human being could have such a dark heart in order to allow this to happen. I really want to know what was Cruz’s motive or this because as of right now I think there is no reason for anyone to want to participate in a mass shooting in which you will end up with such a bad reputation. This 19-year-old just basically ruined his life by committing such a terrible crime. Almost a year ago I was still a high school student, and I would have never imagined experiencing a day at my school in that way. At any school, you’re supposed to feel safe. All of the students that experienced that event were simply trying to get an education, and sadly, for those who did
The Gunman that was shooting was Stephen Paddock. It happened on a 32nd floor in hotel suite on Sunday. Killing 59 people, 36 women and 22 men, including himself and wounding 489. While the police were searching the 32nd floor suite they found 12 rifles. They also searched his houses. They found 47 firearms in his two houses. He bought all of the weapons from Nevada, Utah, California and Texas. The girlfriend of the gunman did not know he was going to harm anyone. Her name is Marilou Danley. He sent her on a trip to Philippines and wired her money there. When she was coming back from her trip reporters came and asked her questions about Stephen Paddock. She said “I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man. I loved him and hoped for
According to Boyce, after the stabbing, the situation was resolved after the perpetrator walked out of the classroom where he was confronted by a female guidance counselor. Boyce said “She asked for the knife and recovered the knife. He then walked into the assistant principal's office and sat there and the police were called,” describing the seemingly uncomplicated arrest.
The authorities never acknowledged his behavior, leading to the death of 17 innocent people. “The Gun Control Debate After Parkland” by The New Yorker explains some action being taken by individual companies, “...Dick’s announced that it would no longer carry assault-style rifles or high-capacity machines, and would not sell guns to people under the age of twenty-one...” (Talbot). Although action is now being taken, the amount of time and lives it took to have something done is ridiculous. The justice system is very flawed, considering they had many opportunities to stop Cruz and get him the help he desperately needed. It took a massacre of a normally safe high school to get a store to set restrictions, let alone the government to apply federal laws. Gun control is a real issue; background checks, mental stability tests, and age should all be accounted for when purchasing a gun, or any weapon for that matter. Allowing a 18 year old, who was known to be unstable, walk into a store and buy an assault rifle that was

Adam Lanza had entered the elementary school fully loaded with multiple guns and magazines. However, the weapon used by Adam Lanza during the shooting was a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle. Found near his body were a semiautomatic .223-caliber rifle and two handguns. In the car, there was an Izhmash Saiga-12 (CNN Library 1). These guns were all legally purchased and registered by his mother, Nancy Lanza. As the investigation into Lanza’s home life continued, multiple media reports stated that Nancy was an avid gun collector and enthusiast. Nancy Lanza had also taught her two children to
While couples are waiting anxiously for Valentine’s Day to spend it with the ones they love, Nikolas Cruz was waiting on that day for something else.
Broken Arrow High School SROs should be involved in situation that pertains to sexual harassment, rape and robbery cases. The SROs exists to build a relationship with the students and to teach them about law and serve as another trusted adult. I found for my survey from students that they believe the SROs do a good job, but if a situation would arise of an SRO abusing their power they would like a policy in place. From my interview via email with the principal and assistant principal believe that a situation would never accrue. I propose that BAHS put a policy in place that limits the power of SROs. Or dictate what they can get involved in and what they can’t. For example, if students are engaging in a fight the SROs can break up the fight but
The events that took place at Washington High Schools have caused a division between the students, teachers and administration. While some support the decision the principal has made to suspend the students for their untasteful talent show performance, others question its effectiveness. Shortly after the suspension, the students began segregating themselves and exchanging racial comments. The situation has escalated out of control and it has become a political one; leaders of the African American community want to discuss the talent show protest and are demanding a meeting with the principal.
it’s because his mother pasted away recently, and he wanted to be professional shooter. He also has mentally illness or autistic or learning disability. He posted on YouTube one of the comment saying, “I want to be professional shooter” Also he had two Facebook account that, he posted about guns and bandana. Some student from the school reported him. The sheriff office has responded to Mr. Cruz and his brother in the year 2008 and 2017 but failed to act about the warning signs.
As reports surfaced that 19-year old Nikolas Cruz had killed 17 students at the Florida high school, Obama felt it was necessary to push his liberal agenda for more gun control.
In the classroom setting, let’s face it, there are students who are watching the clock, patiently awaiting the end of class. Yet some teachers have the ability to capture a student’s attention so well that the student might forget all about the time until the end of
