Stereotypes in Then Hip Hop Community Hip hop is something that has been around since the 21st century. When it comes to the hip hop community, there are so many stereotypes that the media portrays. This essay will show that the stereotype of violent, crimes African American in rap music can become self-prognostication for the hip hop community. This is a behavior that has been corresponding in the rap music and has become accepted as a social norm by the African American community. Hip-Hop is not what the media portrays it to be. It’s how one carries themselves and expresses themselves. With the many positive aspects of hip hop, the media choses to cornerstone predominantly on the negative, without revealing the positive side of the hip hop culture. “The presentation of hip-hop culture was not based upon an altruistic concern to reveal the environmental, economic, and social challenges of inner city communities, but was connected instead to more basic goal−profits” (Melvin 1). Hip-Hop music is used for so many things than just the negativities that media sets it out to be. …show more content…

“Hop in the Bronx was an expression of former gang bangers like the Zulu Nation turning to culture to pull kids from gangs and violence” Rappers used the art of music to find their identity and their voice. For so long these individuals were labeled as something they are not and the only way to show that they were not who the media addressed them to be were through the form of rap.
