Stereotypes: A Demographic Study

To start off, I found your journal entry very interesting. Additionally, I liked how you decided to do your response in a different approach than the way many others or I did. Rather than just explaining what we think when we meet someone with a different speech pattern, you decided to describe your experience of being the victim of being the one who was judged and bullied. Your story was very touching, and I am glad you are now proud of your accent and the way you speak.

The decisions that the united states made affected other countries by not allowing visitors from other countries or by keeping an eye out for stereotyped people already in the country, even if they’re innocent. I think that everybody goes off of stereotypical belief that all iraqian are terrorists. Terrorists are using an ultimate weapon that all humans have within themselves; fear. Terrorist want to use fear to control us; to turn ourselves against each other. Yet if we do let the stereotypes down, a handful of terrorists might be able to sneak into our country to

He must be over fifty, that’s older than dirt. In today’s society, people tend to stereotype older people like; being out of touch with today’s society, when they reach a certain age, they’re no longer useful, or stubborn and they never want to try new things. On the contrary, I’m not my age, and I don’t ever plan on falling into that stereotype.

There are multiple things horribly wrong with society, but what makes up society? We do. Welcome to a world where you are defined by what you wear and you get judged by are idea of perfection, also don’t forget about the thousands of stereotypes you will be placed under.

At age 16, I have a lot of expectations to meet and stereotypes to battle. I am a hard working student who has the grades to show for it. I am the calculus team member who goes to every competition. I am the animal lover that aspires to be a marine biologist. But I am also the math team president who would grab a novel over a book full of problem-solving techniques. I am the introvert who likes to talk in class. I am the perfect debater online who gets too worked up face-to-face to ever engage anyone in person. I am the scholar that wants summer to last forever.

What are stereotypes?Can they hurt people?Or even help someone?Well stereotypes are generalizations that everyone puts any given group of people under, now saying this from personal experience i find that there may be both positive and negative effects of others doing this. The ways i have experienced stereotypes range from my own parents to random people like teachers and peers, what i got the most was that I was childish and immature from mostly my Dad and that “typical teenage boy” from my teachers also even i told myself i was more mature than the peers around me.

#1. I remember an incident when my aunt had a crisis and she told me to watch her newborn daughter. I have never watched a newborn and I was terrified because anything can happen. I was scared I might do something wrong and hurt the baby, but I was the only choice she had. I took a risk of putting a newborn into my hands. It is a terrifying thing to watch a newborn and there could be things done erroneously and turn into a calamity. If I knew my child was about do the same thing I would tell him or her to really keep their eyes on the child, be patient when the baby is crying, and don’t panic when things go awry.

The most important thing I learned in this course was the immense role race plays in our daily lives. From daily interactions to advancement in occupational roles, race predetermines one’s social mobility due to prejudice and stereotypes. The function of race sheds light on the adversities I may face in the future because of my gender and race. My favorite chapter from this book was the third chapter on culture because it demonstrated the variations in cultures and how it influences our behavior. I found the globalization and diffusion of culture to be relevant due to the increasing role of technology and the Internet. The Internet is gaining momentum due to transmission of cultures, news, job advertisements, online dating, and the spread of new ideas. This allows us to gain insight on various societies and become more encultured.

It was a pleasure meeting with you and Carmen yesterday at your office. After reviewing the information you provided, I decided to visualize and get in the mind of the type of person that would go to a themed bar like this, considering the demographics of the neighbourhood and surrounding areas. What I came up with is someone in between the ages of 25-35, at about the mid-level position in their career, interested in vintage/retro culture, but isn't far removed from contemporary culture. From there I searched the internet for photos with a very strong retro/70s/disco feel as well as more modern photos with retro visual cues like patterns, style of photography, fashion pieces,

I was raised to respect others as I would want to be respected, no matter the circumstance or consequence. Growing up in a nonjudgmental household, I established a foundation towards my personal opinions used today. Before I reached school-age, I realized all people are unique and beautiful. I encountered many life-long friends of each color, sexual orientation, and religion imaginable. Presently, I have begun seeing the endless methods of discrimination. The unfortunate misconception in which all persons should conform to one belief system has tainted our nation. I believe everyone has a right to be heard and appreciated without wrongful perception of character.

The world is found to be more complex than what the stereotypes suggest. A stereotype is an oversimplified conception that is put on someone because of their style, gender, and all the other categories that exist. Stereotypes play a major role in the social world because they are used to simplify the thinking of one when meeting a new person. People are much deeper than the label they are given. Stereotypes exist because judging someone is much easier than getting to actually have a conversation together and bond.

As an individual in a society where racism, sexism, and discrimination is very common, I unintentionally stereotype a person when I first see them. Admitting this fault seems very judgemental and inconsiderate of me, but it just shows how our society enabled this; no one was born as a person who judges another by appearance. Although, stereotyping is something that shouldn’t be followed and constantly doing it could lead no being named a bigot.

The various sources of media have the very important task of communicating information from one source to another without losing the element of truth and accuracy. Recently, The media in the form of newspapers and internet articles look at many issues from only one perspective in order to avoid confusion. While simplicity is often preferred and enjoyed by the audience, it has negative effects that can impact the understanding of a topic. When the media talks about occurring events in South America or the Middle East, sources use easy to understand, eye catching titles to grab people's attention. This method can keep things simple but can also make the topic contain a bias towards a specific opinion that eventually leads to the creation of stereotypes

I get the new issue of Cosmopolitan every month and each issue is pretty close to being the exact same. It’s filled with ads for the clothing brands, the latest beauty products and usually advice columns on sex or how to get a man. There was a story titled 3 Super Feminine Trends That Are Already Dominating NYFW, and it showed several photos of models walking down the runway in New York Fashion Week. Each one of the models looks emaciated. Their collar bones are popping out, their legs look like toothpicks, and the clothes that they are modeling are just hanging off of them, they don't even fit! I’ve always noticed how thin models were, and I’ve never understood why being extremely thin was a requirement to be a model. Its sad that a woman that is a size 4 is considered ‘plus size.’ The clothing ads include extremely photoshopped models, with thin bodies and perfect skin.
