Steamboat Willie
On November 18, 1928 Walt Disney released an 8 minute animated cartoon called “Steamboat Willie” which starred the iconic Mickey Mouse. The cartoon starts off with Mickey Mouse piloting a river steamboat while whistling “Steamboat Bill” which became a very popular song after the cartoon aired. Then, “Pete” is introduced as the real captain of the boat and pushes Mickey off the wheel. Disney was having trouble with finding the right character people would enjoy to watch but the trouble was gone after he released the cartoon. The name Mickey Mouse actually came from Disney’s wife, he originally wanted to call him “Mortimer” but his wife suggested “Mickey”.

Wilfred Jackson’s mom, who taught music, suggested the use of a metronome. He then created a chart he called a bar sheet or exposure sheet, which had out the sound effects and music to go along to the animation. Walt then had to test his theories, he decided to make a test scene so he set up a projector outside a window in his studio. Behind the bed sheet screen were the artists watching the cartoon through the sheet and playing the simple sound effects, synchronized with what they were seeing. The audience was the staff’s wives and the feedback was great. This was a major event in the 1900s because it changed the way producers made cartoons. The music was arranged by Wilfred Jackson and Bert Lewis, the cartoon had a really popular song named, “Steamboat Bill” and it was composed by baritone Arthur Collins. The cartoon was such a hit that later in 1935 it was released in color and along the way Disney started to introduce the characters, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. Therefore, merchandising started to rise. One of the best sellers was the Mickey Mouse book which had sold 2.4 million copies. There were many other different items being sold like, Mickey Mouse watches, Mickey Mouse soap, Mickey
The film was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. And although it was the third Mickey cartoon produced, it was the first to find a distributor, thus it was considered as Mickey's first debut. Some changes were made to Mickey’s appearance as well, such as simplifying his eyes to large dots which then established his look for later cartoons

This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their very presence in many of our modern-day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace.
After falling asleep, the brooms had the room overflowed with water and Mickey could not find or remember how to make them stop. “As a matter of fact, in this case the story came first...and the composer wrote the music to go with it.” (Grant). In contrast to what Joe Grant wrote, none of the other segments in Fantasia had the music created for the animation, the music was there first and then created the animations based off of the music. Throughout the creation of this film, there were over 700 animators that worked closely with director, James Algar to make sure every detail of the animations were perfect. These animations were extraordinarily precise as objects came to life or moved on the exact beats going along with the music. It simply takes the audience into a magical world of what is going on throughout the segments whether it be with spirits or dinosaurs. Starting out as a failure after being released and barely making any money, this movie is one of a kind as it rose to fame and reached its peak as the 22nd most grossing film.
Granted that his artists left him, there was one artists that stayed. Her name was Lillian Bounds and married Walt on July 13, 1925. They had one child named Diane Marie (December 8th,1933) and adopted another named Sharon Mae in 1937 (Stewart 43 & 61). Walt needed a new character that was better than Oswald, so with the help of Lillian they created Mickey Mouse. No one would buy Walt’s cartoons of Mickey, but Walt had an idea of adding sound to his cartoons to make them more exciting. Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon with combined with sound and it was a hit! “Steamboat Willie was by far the best sound cartoon of its time” (Stewart 48). Walt wanted to make a animated movie that would be as long as the cartoons that are played
Walt Disney started out by producing short animated films in 1922 and in 1928 introduced Mickey Mouse, the world most famous cartoon character shown in Figure 4 below (Olsson 1996; Kramer 2002). Following this breakthrough, Kramer (2002) found that Disney proceeded innovatively with new film technologies of sound and colour that resulted in the first successful animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.
Founded in 1923 by Walter Elias Disney, Walt Disney is the pioneer of the animation industry (“The Walt Disney Company”, 2014). The first two cartoons that Disney created were silent films and could not be sold; he then created the third Mickey Mouse cartoon with sound – Steamboat Willie in November of 1928 ("Disney History," n.d.). Disney went on to win the Academy Award ® for Best Cartoon in 1932, which was the first year that this award was offered, for his cartoon Flowers and Trees ("Disney History," n.d.). Shortly after his cartoons were gaining popularity, Disney went into the merchandising industry, when Walt Disney accepted an offer of $300 by a man to put Mickey Mouse on some pencil tablets ("Disney History," n.d.). That was just the beginning for Disney merchandising, which soon included everything from “Mickey Mouse dolls, dishes,
Walt Disney was alive in the 1920’s. He was a film maker and a cartoonist. He opened a studio for making cartoons in 1923. He also created a theme park for all ages. In 1928 his first motion picture was produced. it was called “Steamboat Willie”.
Mickey made his first debut on November 18, 1928, in a black and white cartoon called the “Steamboat Willie”. What distinguishes Mickey from the rest of the cartoons was the modern day appearance with his white gloves on his hands. With Walt as the voice of Mickey, it
“The cartoon was considered the debut of Mickey, and his girlfriend Minnie.” (“Walt Disney”) Production for Steamboat Willie took place between July and September of 1928, and cost approximately $5,000. The release of Steamboat Willie caused thousands of people to line up at the Universal Colong Theatre in New York. The premiere date for the film was on November 18, 1928. Disney made about $500 a week from the release. “The success of Steamboat Willie not only led to international fame for Walt Disney but for Mickey as well.” (“Walt Disney”)
After losing everything, Walt and Ubbe decided to create another cartoon character now known as Mickey. After creating a series of short cartoons Mickey became the world’s most popular cartoon character in the 1930s. Walt created his first full-length animated musical feature in the production of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” which exceeded over $1,400,000 in profit (IMDb, 2010). Throughout 1937-1947 he continued to create full-length movies such as “Pinocchio”, “Fantasia”, “Dumbo”, and “Bambi”. Following his cartoon success, Walt
Walt always used the best technology. In 1928 he created the first talking cartoon called Steamboat Willie starring Mickey Mouse.
Information security is an important part of a company’s success and pharmacies are no exception due to their sensitive information. Information Security Officers are needed to ensure physical protection along with data and access protection. Information Security Officers wear different hats to accomplish their goals such as completing many information security functions to meet a company’s established guidelines, provisions and policies. They provide management with reports which detail how information security procedures and standards are put into practice to meet government standards regarding risk management policies, information security improvement tasks, analysis of progress and assessment of current programs in place.
The Walt Disney Company was first founded in 1923 by Walt and Roy Disney (Wasko, 2011). It was first known under the name of the Disney Brothers Studio, before changing its name in 1986 (Disney’s history of magic: Timeline, 2013) (Timeline, 2013). In 1927, Mickey Mouse was created and soon became the symbol of the Company (Wasko, 2011). Internationally recognized for its animation, the Studio was the first to present a ‘’full-color cartoon’’, Flowers and Trees, which later went on to win ‘’ […] the first Academy Award for Best Cartoon’’ in 1932 (Wasko, 2011). Five years later, Disney released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, its first ‘’full length animated film’’(Timeline, 2013). It wasn’t until 1940 that the Company became public and, therefore, available to be traded on the stock market (Timeline, 2013). Fifteen years later, Disney was opening its first theme park in California under the name of Disneyland (Disney’s history of magic: Timeline, 2013). Incidentally, the
