Your value does not decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth. Status is a social position that a person holds. Functional would be having a special activity, purpose, or task; it relates to the way something works or process. In American culture I would consider status to be functional. Since the beginning of time functioning would always benefit the rich and white; since then the white has always been at the top. Ascribe status is involuntary, it was given to a person by society. White men at birth were assigned to be at the top of every race and gender. Achieved status would be voluntary which would be something you work for, which would be a lawyer. Despite the plethora of cultures, certain norms, mores, and folkways are evident in American society. These ideas are vital to the function and stability of America. They provide guidelines for what is acceptable and not. In virtually every society, there are people who engage in deviant behavior and do not abide by the values that the rest of society follows. In contemporary American society, social class is based on the amount of money and property you have and also prestige. Prestige is given to a person through the line of work or the family that they come from. For example, upper-upper class member Jennifer Lopez reeks of prestige not only because she has millions of dollars in her bank account, but she has very expensive luxuries, cars, and houses.

As a New England woman of post-American Revolution, I expect that America will end its restrictive customs towards women and that women of all social classes will have the opportunity to obtain equal rights, in which women previously did not have. Formerly, men controlled all public institutions, including government, legislatures, and juries. Men did not allow women to have the freedom to express their opinions on public issues. In fact, women of the upper class engaged in debate with opinions through diaries and letters. However, it would be a pleasure for all women to be able to engage in politics rather than just the upper class. Specifically, they can participate in public debates and hold the same jobs that men had during pre-Revolution.
From what I've read, I learned how the social status of blacks was back then. They didn't seem to have any opportunities at all. Being black was probably the worst thing that could've happen to them. This paper is a reflection on the methods that these books use in providing information about the evolution of the US culture. The paper examines the relationship between these three sources and ways they challenge or inform an understanding of the American society during the late 19th and early 20th century. There is an analysis of the efficiency of the issues tackled by these books in influencing the contemporary discourse surrounding American culture. The major argument of this paper is that Crabgrass Frontier, Manifest Destination and Muscular Christianity provide reliable information about the evolution of the US culture and they supplement each other through the use of relevant examples.
