While I am focused on a career in science, I want to utilize the Stony Brook University Honors college to strengthen my current skills and expand my knowledge to create new perspectives. An interdisciplinary education will help me develop a comprehensive understanding of important issues as well as break down the barriers of academic isolation. In many schools, there is very little communication and collaboration across departments leaving them isolated in their perspectives. In many academic fields, particularly science, the knowledge gained in one subject often serves as a way to deepen the learning experience in another subject.
The Honors college will also allow me to develop collaboration skills by working with people of all perspectives.

The main reason I came to Bronx Science was because Bronx Science was my top choice for high school. Both my mom and I felt that Bronx Science will give me better opportunities than what the University Scholars program at Francis Lewis, the other high school I was accepted into, would give me. In this course I hope to cover genetics or anatomy because I am highly interested in the human body. I would like to know how cells work as well as DNA. I would also like to know how is passed down and what DNA we share with other things, if any, because of evolution. I am interested in anatomy because I’d like to learn more about how different parts of the body works with other parts. I find the anatomy of animals and insects especially interesting because
I am the best candidate for the Honors College because I exemplify the entire mission statement and more. I am an an all around student that participates in my community and my school. I am very intelligent and have challenged myself in the classroom by taking many honors and AP courses. I’ve joined many clubs that promote who I am as a person. Key club has been my favorite cub because I love what the club stands for.
The Suny Stony Brook Honors College would be a perfect fit for me for a wide array of reasons. Even though I may not seem like a suitable candidate for this program by being part of this program I will gain the extra motivation to work harder at my work. The Honors College provides its students the opportunity to participate in research at its highest level. This is very important to me because in High school I did research at a university and this helped me learn a great deal about the topic and by doing research in Stony Brook I can better understand my major. Also in the honors college these students are given the chance to be close with the faculty. This will greatly give beneficial to me because it will help me learn much better when I
At this point in my college career, I have reached the limit as to what the Miami-Dade Honors College can offer me. So far I have pursued an Associate in Arts degree in Biology and am looking forward to the next step in my education. My experiences here have allowed me to grow heavily both as a student and an individual, but I am limited in the amount of resources currently available to me. For example, I do not have the variety of courses and study abroad opportunities that four-year college students have. Hence, I have taken all the science and math courses towards my associates degree at Miami-Dade College, but I am left to explore other options to continue to advance my preparation for a career in the science field. This is because I have
Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in different professional societies such as the National Society of High School Scholars, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honors society), and Business Professionals of America. My involvement in these societies has made me knowledgeable in the logistics of how to run the society, and have taught me valuable skills such as leadership and collaboration. For logistics, I can help organize events such as fundraising activities or philanthropic events as I am currently on the social committee for Business Professionals of America, which is in charge of organizing social events for my chapter. As an elected member for the social committee, my chapter has shown faith in me for my leadership skills and collaboration skills. Overall, I feel like I can contribute a lot of my skills and knowledge to UIC honors college.
Given the opportunity to join the honors college, I will be able to bring numerous skills such as : leadership, teamwork, volunteering, problem solving and creativity. Although it may be clear the countless ways in which the Honors College can contribute to my goals post graduation, it is also crucial to acknowledge the ways in which I will positively contribute to the community as well. For one,
The Honors College encourages students with just that through their original study abroad program that interests me. Studying abroad comes with a host of both personal and academic benefits. This opportunity provides means of learning, living, and experiencing a different global culture. Additionally, studying abroad yields enticing benefits such as better job opportunities, becoming increasingly open-minded, experiencing a different culture, and more. As a student in a global environment, such an experience would set me apart from so many other college students while also earning credits for the Honors
Joining the Honors College will develop my authenticity, not in the sense that I will be a more honest person, but rather, that I will know more about myself and have better reasoning behind my beliefs. The challenging course load that Honors Students face requires a deeper level of reflection. Students must not only know the material, but have a solid foundation behind it. This forces students to question their worldly views, resulting in a reformed person both socially and academically. Striving for a deeper understanding requires my views to constantly evolve.
I plan to contribute and positively impact the experiences of the students, the staff, and the program as a whole by applying myself in a variety of roles to exemplify a model student throughout my participation in the Honors Program.
First, the academics. I have always enjoyed learning new things from many areas. This is what spurred me to take a variety of advanced classes in high school in many subject areas. Having the wide knowledge base and a varied array of perspectives is critical to understanding new concepts or solving problems, whether one’s at school or solving real-world problems. Thus, the interdisciplinary approach of the Honors College is essential to me in my education experience. And, of course, some of the more tangible aspects of the Honors College experience appealed to me as well. The access to personal priority registration, career path advice, mentoring and advising all will give me the opportunities to ensure my life in and beyond school will run smoothly.
The Purdue Honors College is an excellent program which would add many great new opportunities to my education. I have always enjoyed a challenge in my education, and the community and resources available would only help to further support this. Primarily, the learning community to which I would be exposed would create an enhanced academic environment, as I would live in the Honors Residence and take Honors courses with a diverse group of individuals who share my passion for learning. Furthermore, being a part of this dedicated community would expose me to a wide range of beliefs and ideas coming from a highly motivated group of individuals and therefore would allow me to further grow as a person.
