Statement of Purpose for TU Delft
“He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards the ship without a rudder and compass and knows where he may cast.”- Leonardo da Vinci
As Leonardo da Vinci has worded so precisely, practical knowledge is incomplete and rather useless without proper theoretical knowledge and specific tools that it provides the recipient of that knowledge. I, Kriti Gupta, am a student of Chemical Engineering, the branch of engineering that is known for its universal approach and whose scope is never ending. Chemical Engineering provides one with ample opportunities to step into any field of one’s choice, research and make the world a better place, be it in the field of petroleum, energy, pharmaceuticals or

Chemistry and Physics have always interested me and to this day, I have not gotten over the luster of the metals and the arcane quality of chemicals that is presented by these subjects. My current CGPA is 8.95 out of a maximum 10. The total number of credits that are required for the students pursuing Chemical engineering are 176.The bevy of subjects that have been taught through the duration of my studies as a budding Chemical Engineer like Mass Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Momentum Transfer, Process Control, Transport Phenomena, Petroleum Refining Technology, Pollution Control and Biochemical Engineering have kept me inspired and motivated in this magnificently variegated field. I have also undergone an extra credit course on “Desalination Technology” along with attending workshop on Aspen Tech Plus. My first internship at “Universal Petro Chemicals Limited” fuelled my interest in product designing whereas my second internship at “Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited” and preparation of the project on “Produced Water Treatment and its Control” made me realize the urgent need for development of Alternative Energy
I will build upon the technical writing skills I learned in junior lab to write the assignments in this course. Knowledge from fluids, heat and mass, separations, reactors, and thermodynamics will all be used to design chemical processes. The basic box and arrow diagrams that were first learned in CHE211 will be expanded in this course to develop process flow diagrams. These skills will be used to meet the instructor’s goals of using compositions and flows to determine process equipment size, its corresponding cost, flow diagrams, and how to synthesize the
The subject of Chemistry is one that deals heavily with a comprehension of the natural world and the individual details that make up an entire system. I was introduced to this course my sophomore year as I took on Honors Chemistry. As a student who grasps material best with hands on projects, this class fueled my excitement to be able to understand a complex subject using planned out lab procedures. From titrations to calculating the amount of copper in a solution, Chemistry gave me an opportunity to bring my own speculations into a class rather than being told directly what is occurring in a scientific process. The fascination of this class is what directed me to take AP Chemistry my senior year of high school. Even with the difficulty of
It all started when I was chosen to join an invention competition that was held in Indonesia. I had the opportunity to expose myself to the full range of the chemical and engineering courses, in which it helped to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in Chemistry. During the competition, I had to convince the
Canadian universities offer programs in chemistry and chemical engineering at undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels, and eight Canadian university rank among the top 200 universities for chemistry.21 Canada has expertise in chemicals and plastics research with a number of specialized
During my most recent OSAP-funded study period, I was enrolled in my first year of Chemical Engineering at Ryerson University, adapting to a new environment and trying to transition from high school to post-secondary.
I plan to major in chemical engineering at UNR. Possessing a thirst for discovering how the world functions through the lense of science, I am interning with Dr. Casey in the Chemistry Department to experience chemistry firsthand. Alongside the heavy workload, I will balance volunteering with Dean’s Future Scholars at UNR, I’ve dedicated 200+ hours to the group and look forward to helping out the lives of low-income, first generation kids like myself. I’ll advance from college into the real world examining life at the atomic level while giving back to the
There are various jobs within this industry; each one of them bringing challenges that will help an employee develop and inherently, tap into creative thinking to solve complex issues. This is a very interesting field as it consistently changes with new developments and allows one to think outside of the box. Although I just started my internship with DOW; my first couple of weeks have been extremely exciting and fulfilling. It has already provided challenges and I’m learning firsthand how a chemical plant operates. This learning process will be invaluable as I continue my journey as a chemical engineer.
Therefore, the concepts make sense to the knowledge I previously learnt, especially when combined with the other sciences. The more I learn, especially this year in the university introductory courses, the more exciting and interesting chemistry becomes. This excitement of making sense of my previous knowledge needs to continue, as I told myself, and I would need to take chemistry as my major to do so.
First, the fact that all living organisms survive on the principles of chemical reactions enhances the interest to study chemistry. Secondly, the study of chemistry can explain deeply some concepts of polymers that form part of daily life activities such as clothes, food among other necessities. For myself, attending a chemistry graduate program will allow me to explore the science of materials that find use in my daily life activities and, perhaps, discover, improve, and better understand the ways of how they work! Another factor that initiates my interest in attending a chemistry graduate program is the career it grants. A chemistry graduate has variety of options between both academic and industrial fields. Thus, such a degree would expand my career potentials. In the meantime, I find myself more interested in the materials science area of chemistry. this very broad field would enable me play a predominant role in providing information about the structure and composition of materials, as well as the processes to synthesize and use
My decision to pursue undergraduate degree in the United States was received with a lot of skepticism by my family members. Because a career in chemistry is unfortunately not considered as rewarding as compared to careers in medicine or business. Successful chemists are not very heard of in Nepal, and this stems from the fact that not many institutions in Nepal have opportunities for research in Chemistry. My deep interest in this field and a fair bit of persuasion helped me convince my parents to support me in my educational endeavor and therefore I came to Wesleyan College to study chemistry. My desire to become chemical engineer after attending college for two years come from my exposure in this field during an internship at the University of Minnesota over the summer.
Despite the ever-widening scope of undergraduate university courses, chemistry means a lot to me as it is undoubtedly an influential and essential part of daily life. My zeal for chemistry has stemmed from watching how it interlinks with our lives so much. As I was growing up, my curious nature often led me to wonder why leaves turn orange and red in the autumn or what makes glow sticks glow? It fascinates me that the genetic makeup of humans and other species is down to four base molecules held together by hydrogen bonds. Current global issues in our world such as world hunger and the need for changes in the legislation of legal highs have massive implications for millions of people worldwide.
Out of so many branches of courses in science and engineering, Chemical Engineering has caught my eye. I strongly believe that our world in the future needs more Chemical engineer due to its unsustainable development. Our world today has made many modern inventions which lead to a more comfortable life than what it was before. Skyscrapers, transportation, mobile phones and thousands of sophisticated machines were invented to make life worth living. However, most people neglect the downside which may occur due to those
The idea of seeing a project come to life is what provokes my desire to become an engineer. In the past, engineers have created the greatest historic innovations such as health technology. My passion for chemical engineering is seeing how the fundamental theories of Chemistry, Physics and Math can be applied to create an innovative industry. In very concrete ways, engineers
I have graduated with honors in Bachelor Chemistry with first class division from University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Currently, I am associated with a Pharmaceutical company, Getz Pharma Private Limited since the last seven years. Getz Pharma is a prestigious pharmaceutical company operating in twenty-three countries worldwide. It has been approved by many world-renowned organizations such as PICs and WHO.
Since my school days, I have been interested in Mathematics and physical sciences. My scholastic record has been meritorious right through school and higher secondary education. With my propensity towards Mathematics and physics, I chose Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry as my group for
