The National Honor Society is reputably known for its high standards. Those that are accepted to this esteem society are rewarded with several possibilities with the added benefit of just being part of this respected club. Therefore, I am honored to be a member of the National Honor Society. Nevertheless, I intend to gain more from this club than just being an idle member. Thus, I decided that I want to take a more crucial and demanding role by being the President of D.M. Therrell High School National Honor Society Club. Many only see the National Honor Society as an organization that will look excellent on college applications, and although that may be true, the National Honor Society is not an organization that can be taken so lightly. The National Honor Society is so much more than a scholarship-granting organization, the NHS is an organization that helps develop the requisite for render service and the development of leadership and character. The growth and success of the NHS relies on not only its members, but also those outside of the organization. Its members can only do so much on their own. I, Sara Samir, am interested in joining National English Honor Society (NEHS). Throughout my years at Calhoun, I have grown as student thanks to the wonderful English staff here. They have all helped me excel in several areas of English. With my accomplishments and grades in English throughout high school, and after completing a few more of the requirements, I feel that I am eligible to be considered to be part of NEHS.

As a member of four national honor societies, I believe my presence in those organizations has made me a good candidate for the College Scholars program. I was invited to the National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa (Social Studies National Honor Society), National French Honor Society, and National Honor Society. All four have enhanced my academics, social skills, and intuition. In the National English Honor society, we are challenged to utilize our writing skills for the betterment of our community. Our main project this year was creating little messages that promoted suicide prevention. We would then attach the message to a knitted heart and hang them all around our school. Rho Kappa has gifted me with an appreciation for the United States

Though my primary goal is to ameliorate my leadership skills, there are many reasons for my wanting to become a member of the National Honor Society. Not only would my membership appeal to colleges to whom I may be applying to, it would challenge me in such a way as to further develop valuable life skills, such as responsibility and character. Any collective efforts or activities made would allow me to build teamwork capabilities, hone project management aptitude, and make friends. My acceptance into the NHS would also guarantee future access to applications for the NHS Scholarship Program, which will financially aid me in entering the college of my choice.

As a freshman at the University of Maryland, I am pursuing a Masters degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Cyber Security. I formerly attended the Academy of Health Sciences at Prince George’s Community College, a dual enrollment program in which I graduated with my High school diploma and an Associates of Arts degree in General Studies. Having a unique experience by attending these different school has allowed me to become familiar with technical communication in a multitude of ways, whether it is in the work place or school related. Being vice president of the national honor society, being a barista at Peet’s coffee shop, and with being fluent in multiple languages I have used technical communication to encourage people to “take action” in a multitude of ways. Whether it was influencing people to join the national honors society or trying to get customers to buy a new coffee drink, I have consistently been able to encourage others to “take action” with whatever it may be. Over time I have learned the do’s and don’ts of being a technical communicator, and I now understand what must be done to accomplish a task through technical communication.

The National Honors Junior Society is one of the nation's prime organizations established to acknowledge outstanding middle school students. In order to be eligible to be a part of this society, students must exhibit certain achievements in different areas. Students must demonstrate excellence in areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. The purpose of this prestigious organization is to provide a strong foundation for building leadership skills through service to the school and the surrounding community. I should be a part of this society because I believe I posses great leadership, scholarship, character, citizenship, and service qualities.

National English Honors Society is a way for me to serve the community while doing something that I love. Since I was a child, I have always had a strong love of English. I’ve been writing since I was six years old. After a lot of hard work, I won first place for poetry in the county’s “Write Now” contest at fourteen years old. I feel as though my biggest talents are writing and strong interpersonal skills, so I could help to spread the word and organize events with local schools, retirement homes, and other places. In English classes, I always strive to have an A average by the end of the year. This year, I am pushing myself even further by taking the eleventh grade AP English course. The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. It is an honor to be chosen as a candidate for membership in the National Honor Society. Academics, leadership skills, service abilities, and character are four principal parts of a superior student. I believe that I am inclusive of all these aspects needed to become a part of this prestigious group. Becoming a member of this organization is important to me, because it will help me get into an excellent college and push me to work harder in school.

Everyday, countless amounts of people are working hard, trying to change the world for the better. They are researching cures for cancer or taking twelve hour shifts to help keep oceans clean. There are people who are working towards a better world, and making life safe for the children in need, the animals in danger, and the men fighting for our country. Seeing these changes happen has motivated me to want to be a part of these developments. I wish to serve those around me, and believe that if I can have a positive impact on my community, it can affect the rest of the world. Therefore, I have made it my goal to be a part of the National Honor Society, in hopes that I can help my school, Middleville, and all who have impacted me. I believe that I represent the characteristics of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, and hope to use these qualities so that others may benefit.

In addition to scholarship, National Honor Society emphasizes community service. I have a passion for service and have been involved in service projects through my church, Dance Team, FFA and 4H. As I reflect on all of the community service events I have assisted in, I have realized that each time I have helped others, I have grown as a person. I have learned to be appreciative of all of the opportunities that my situation has provided for me. Leadership is yet another quality that National Honor Society builds. I have worked on developing my leadership skills through my participation in 4H, church youth group, FFA, and dance. I would like to gain more leadership experience by helping to organize the activities that National Honor Society has throughout the year. A positive character is recognized and developed by National Honor Society. I strive to always maintain a good character. I work hard and try to be a positive role model as a student, employee, volunteer, and friend. Character is important to me because of the leadership position I am put

I am extremely honored to be considered in being in the National Honor Society. I believe that this organization helps a lot within communities and keeping grades up. That is why I believe I should be a member. I know how to keep my grades at the highest they can be, which in my case is a 4.0. I am also largely active within my community and school. I play softball for my high school and hope to be a captain this year since I am now an upperclassman. I also enjoy helping within my community doing things such as work, clubs, and travel softball.

National Honor Society truly is a honor to be accepted into. National Honor Society represents scholarship, leadership, service, and character. I believe since I was young I have shown compassion and leadership needed in our society. That is why this is the right society for me.
