The reading states that we should support that standarized tests to ensure that students recieve the best education possible and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that there is no reason to use the standarized testing to evatuate the students because they are not tools to improve the education, but they inhibite the progress and refutes each of the authors' reasons. The professor opposes this point by saying that the standarize tests are forcing the teachers to teach the same material without taking any care with the students interest or needs about what to study, so the standarize tests don't give freedome
Standardized testing has become the main component in determining a student’s capability. A test should not determine if the student has a mind that is above average. In the article titled “Standardized Testing: Undermining Equity in Education”, it states, “Qualities such as a student’s sense of citizenship, ethics, confidence/self-esteem,...respect for others, self-discipline,...are not seen in standardized tests.” Every student is unique and has
On account of high school students having to take a standardized test to graduate, one reason why this intake is unnecessary and irrelevant is because different schools teach different things. Surprisingly, about 5 million people in the U.S. regularly accept the burden of driving and using gas to get to a gym to run on a repetitious, monotonous machine known as the treadmill. This means these people are neglecting the overall simplicity of running outdoors. Clearly, the majority decides running on a treadmill with valid reasons. However, you will be convinced that the undervalued choice of exercise, outdoor running, is more advantageous than the treadmill. Running on a treadmill and running outdoors are both superb options for exercise to develop cardiovascular strength and endurance. They both involve running which is the most common way to receive a workout. Although treadmills are the new breakthroughs in the fitness industry and are considerably convenient, outdoor running should be the ultimate choice for exercise because of its numerous health benefits and various exercise conditions.
Students dread the time of the year when they stop with their course material and begin to prepare for test. Everyone is in agreement that some type of revolution is needed when it comes to education; eliminating standardized test will aid the reform. The need for standardized testing has proven to be ineffective and outdated; some leading educationalist also believe this because the tests do not measure a student’s true potential. This will save money, stop labeling, and alleviate stress in students and teachers.
Standardized tests are unnecessary because they are excruciating to the minds of many innocent students. Each year, the tests get tougher and stricter until the students cannot process their own thoughts. The tests become torturous to the minds of those only starting in the world of tests. The students already battling in the war are continuing to fall deeper and deeper into the world of uncreativity and narrowness. As the walls narrow in on them, they are lost and unable to become innovative thinkers. Moreover, the implementation of standardized tests into the public school systems of the United States of America has controversially raised two different views –the proponents versus the opponents in the battle of the effectiveness of
The article claims that standardized tests ensures the best education possible for the students and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecture explains that these tests are not tools to help students or anyone and inhibit progress in shcools. She refutes each of the author’s reasons.
Great question Amanda about the what results would we see nationwide if all states chose to incorporate the Common Core Standards? To look at the big picture of the Common Core State Standards Initiavtive, the purpose is to create a standard set for all students in the United States. When talking about the Common Core State Standards and how they affect students and educators we must remember where this argument started from. In the 21st century of learning Barth (2004) reminds us that "we are not just preparting workers, we are preparing citizens. It is our interest ,then, as much our responisbility to make sure that all our young people are prepared for the furture."
I begin by addressing the problems caused by standardized testing and how it is currently affecting students and teachers throughout the educational system. I would then continue on to provide a solution to these problems that are caused by Standardized tests. I would then shift my focus and mainly talk about the solution, the alternative to standardized testing, portfolio testing and how from student to teacher to even school officials could benefit from this kind of testing and how crucial it is in developing today youth. After considering some of the advantage of standardized testing, I would argue why our educational system should switch from standardized tests to Portfolio tests and how this will truly benefit the next generation of students and guide them to achieve greater

But also, standardized test don’t show the student as a whole. The only thing they are able to show is the ability of a student to take a test. These test that is forced on the students don’t show all the capabilities of a student and all that the student has to offer. Students that take these test the result doesn’t show whether the student is learning critical thinking skills or how engaged students are in the classroom. In the classroom, some students are more engaged than others and when they are assisted on the test this is not shown anywhere as a result of the students capabilities. These are all important factors to consider when evaluating the effectiveness of the students and the school. The school shouldn't be rated by these test scores but how the students act in the classroom and
However, numerous arguments have been formed to have individuals believe they are nonessential. Standardized tests are questionable, for instance, if a student is achieving satisfactory grades in the classroom, but fails to pass a state exam, there is a flaw in the educational system. Required state tests are not efficient because they are an unreliable measure of an individual’s performance, does not allow a student’s creativity, and causes mental health disorders.
Overall, standardized tests are being used to make educated decisions they should not make, causing stress on students and their teachers and ignoring differences in learning styles. As a result of decisions being based on one test score, students stress to do well on the test. Everyone does not comprehend the same information the same way or at the same pace. As an alternative there should be a test based on each child’s reading and comprehending skills, not the same test for every
