As modern warfare has evolved, those in power started to begin to care about the loss of human lives. Stand-off weapons which do not risk the lives of citizens became more preferred. In present time, the death of a human being causes grief and sadness although during the days of the Romans for example, people put other human beings against each other in coliseums to fight for survival while a large audience watches the death of a person in every fight. Straight-forward invasions of other countries have also become more rare than common; the last being the US and British invasion on Iraq in 2003. The disastrous outcomes of it became more difficult to repeat something like that again, even when the government wants to. We have gone from war …show more content…
Before guns, they used swords and other up close and personal weapons such as the bow and arrow, spears, shields and slings. Other weapons used were also the catapult, trebuchets and archer fires. These days, as technology has hugely shaped warfare, soldiers use high tech equipment and weapons in the battlefield. Weapons mainly used today are machine guns, stealth aircrafts and nuclear weapons. Weapons which have had the most impact in modern warfare is the use of machine guns, which allowed for rapid and continuous fire which eliminated frequent reloading, the first one used in the American Civil War, the tank, which replaced the use of rifles and put an end to trench warfare, first used during WWI which symbolised the beginning of modern warfare. The development of nuclear weapons has had the most impact on our society. First developed in 1945, it allowed for massive destruction, affecting such as large area and so powerful no one was prepared for the casualties. An example of this being the Hiroshima bombing in 1945, where the casualties were so enormous and unthinkable which is why it is known as one of the saddest bombings in …show more content…
The development of nuclear weapons which allowed immense destruction in a large area means that more people can be affected during war. It is no longer a sword fight between one person and the other; it is a fight of the most strategic, intelligent way of fighting that wins the war, and the loss of the lives on many innocent civilians seems to be the
The new weapons used in WW1 included: The Rifle used by every country involved in the war, The machine gun, Gas bombs which included chlorine in the early stages of the war then mustard gas in the later stages of the war, Flamethrowers, a Zeppelin or blimp which was a massive aircraft used by the Germans, Tanks 1st used in the battle of Somme, Planes which could dispense bullets at an incredible rate, drop bombs and even support a cannon, and submarines with torpedoes, to make easy pickings on the biggest ships. The rifle, machine gun, and the airplane were invented before WW1 but were upgraded into war machines that were devastating for soldiers.
“I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones” ~ Albert Einstein. War can have drastic effects on everyone that encounters it’s destructive nature, although some might be affected differently than others, or more noticeably, everyone is still affected nonetheless. Both Elie Wiesel and Ishmael Beah survived devastating wars and were changed, both mentally and physically forever.
War leads to oppression and leaves negative implications on all people and societies by impacting the poor, women, children, and nations as a whole. "War is a state of violent conflict between one or more groups" (Rasenberger 3). Rasenberger defines war as a state of conflict between one group within itself or several groups in combat with each other, what is not mentioned are the after-effects of war. War itself leads to many civilian and military deaths, an estimated 1.5-3.8 million people died during the Vietnam War and an approximate 500,000 people died in the Iraq war. The biggest tragedy of War is that it always results in fatality, but another key, negative, factor to understand is that after the War many adverse implications arise. Post-war ramifications in the nation fall upon the poor, women, and children, making them weaker and less motivated leading to the downfall of a society. Regardless if a nation wins or is defeated in war they have to deal with consequences of war and find solutions to the impacted people and society. It is essential to understand that there is never a true victor in war because regardless of the outcome, fatality and a fall of morale within society on both sides are inevitable. War has often been the solution to situations that required force or violence, but in recent times this has
World War is the deadliest war known to date; mainly due to the advancements of technology
Few inventions have shaped war as much as the atomic bomb. The atomic bomb enabled massive indiscriminate destruction on a scale the world had never seen. The offensive capabilities of the atomic bomb were terrifying and many believed a nuclear war could destroy the world. Bernard Brodie, Albert Wohlstetter, Thomas Schelling, and André Beaufre describe the state of war the atomic bomb introduced in the Nuclear Age. Their writings show that atomic bombs changed warfare by changing the focus of arms development to avoid conflict and threats against civilians were now used to force surrender.
Though people questioned why acts of war were committed, they found justification in rationalizing that it served the greater good. As time evolved, the world began to evolve in its thinking and view of the atomic bomb and war. In Hiroshima, John Hersey has a conversation with a survivor of the atomic bomb about the general nature of war. “She had firsthand knowledge of the cruelty of the atomic bomb, but she felt that more notice should be given to the causes than to the instruments of total war.” (Hersey, 122). In John Hersey’s book, many concepts are discussed. The most important concept for the reader to identify was how society viewed the use of the bomb. Many people, including survivors, have chosen to look past the bomb itself, into the deeper issues the bomb represents. The same should apply to us. Since WWII, we have set up many restrictions, protocols and preventions in the hope that we could spare our society from total nuclear war. The world has benefited in our perspective of the bomb because we learned, understand, and fear the use of atomic weapons.
The Fight for Global Power In the article “ The day the Bomb Went Off,” written by Knoll and Postol, the authors suggest the fight for world power is destructive. A nuclear war produces many health and economical damages, human life would be wiped out. In the event of a war there is always the actions leading up to the fight.
The result of World War II was affected by many different factors. One major factor which affected the war was the weapons and artillery used during the war. Since the beginnings of time, weapons have always been around. From swords and knives to nuclear weapons and missiles, weapons have evolved greatly throughout the years. The weapons and artillery used in World War II basically were evolved types of weaponry that were used during World War I (Military History 1).
For several years many advances in technology and human living have come from necessity, and that necessity comes from periods of war. We have built tanks and guns and planes and bombs to increase our chances of winning battles, and sparing as many of our lives and destroying as many of their lives as possible. Through such advances came better car engines, faster transportation, better security and self-defense, and awareness of the dangers of weaponry. One product of the research for better weaponry lead to the nuclear bomb and one product from the research of
Throughout history, war has been the most common resort for nations to solve problems or show off their strength. However it wasn’t until recently where mankind had just live and experience a war that not only did it have the potential destroy nations, but also had the potential to destroy the whole world and humanity itself. This was known as the Cold War where after WWII, citizens of the world witnessed the potential of the atomic bomb and feared the possibility of nuclear fallout or total annihilation of the Earth. The only two superpowers remaining at the time were the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. These two nation competed against each other in a nuclear arms race. They fought to spread the ideals of either a free democratic, capitalistic society or a controlled socialist, communist society. After a 45 year struggle from 1945-1991, the Cold War came to an end due to the fall of the Soviet Union. It was inevitable due to the fact during the last few years of the war, the USSR face internal domestic problems such as their financial/economic situation, failed political reforms, and revolution throughout the Union itself. The causes to the collapse of the Union not only affected them but affected the world to present day.
Wars are horrible situations to be in because wars destroy people’s economic, living, and families. This can be seen during World War Two when Japan wanted the island of Hawaii to be their own island, and they wanted to claim it from the u.s.a. This is what lead to the war and it was also what further on had lead to the atomic bombs. If the United States had not dropped the atomic bomb, the Japanese wouldn't turn into a colony of the U.S. America had been preparing to invade Japan for a long time and they wanted to take over when the atomic bomb became available as soon as possible. They decided this would be a better option to limit the amount of American lives that would have been lost if they invaded. The United States and Japan had not predicted the aftermath of the bombing that led to massive loss of lives. However, the bombing has made Japan realize that they do not have supreme power over the U.S. The Japanese were thought to surrender or to give up due to massive side attacks of
There are moments in our history where the citizens of the world stand up and for their beliefs, their honor, and themselves. They come together to reform the existing government that is holding them back from achieving their desired lifestyle. When this occurs, most likely, war is inevitable to follow. When war comes to a country, death and destruction is destined. Leaders and rules change, but the pride of its citizens prevails and becomes

War is controversial, unfortunate, and certainly misunderstood; it is a transforming agent, a catalyst for change. Nonetheless, many people focus on war's negative consequences, while positive effects are downplayed. War is a necessary evil in the sense that it stabilizes population, encourages technological advances, and has a very high economic value. Without war, the overpopulation of the human race is inevitable. It is this reason that war is a useful tool by not only Mother Nature, but also humans themselves to institute population control.
In World War 2 over 65 million people lost their lives. The emotional toll on the families of the lost soldiers soon followed. Throughout World War 2 we gained many allies, but because of all the destruction that the was caused, for example, peoples homes and all their precious materials being stolen or destroyed, we lost a vast majority of those them. The taking of so many lives and destroying of countries can cause a lot of hate on the nations that inflicted this destruction. This can cause young kids to grow up hating other nations and that is when conflict can start. The lives that are lost during wartime are undeniably one of the biggest causes of death. One thing that every country has in common is the death toll that they face in war. Conflict arises no matter what the cause. The way to grow as a world is to control these conflicts with verbal communication instead of using war as an option.
