After the French and Indian war, Britain had stopped practicing salutary neglect and attempted to govern the colonies O.I. Since they had lost so much money Britain had to gain tighter control over the colonies. In order to regain their money Britain had created taxes on certain items, and because of them the colonists rebelled causing a conflict with Britain. The moves Britain made were to tax all paper goods and imports from Britain to the colonies. The reason these items were taxed is because “The nation has run itself into an immense debt to give them protection” (Document 1). The Stamp Act of 1765 taxed things such as documents, publications, land, amusements, commerce and trade, licenses, wills, and admissions
Back in the 1700’s the British Parliament had to start taxing the colonies to pay for war debt from the treaty of paris, this made the colonists furious, for they did not know why they had to pay, they thought this was underhanded, this caused breakout wars between Britain and America.
In 1765, the English king was terribly in debt after the French and Indian War. His solution? The infamous Stamp Act that riled up citizens throughout the American colonies. But why were they so upset? They already payed less taxes than mainland englishmen, what was there to be angry about? These colonists were upset because this law was a violation of the very rights that they inherit as English citizens by the Bill of Rights.
In 1765 the stamp act was passed by the british because they were in debt from the french and indian war. The british made a tax on all paper products from england. There were many different reactions towards the tax, there were violent acts and some less violent acts. Colonial families in 1765 had multiple ways of reacting towards the stamp act such as violently trying to make the tax collectors resign, boycotting british products, feeling like slaves towards england, and writing documents and petitions to the king.
The British had undisputed control of the continent and had very strong thriving economies in the colonies. They also had very large war debts as a result of defending the colonies during the war. This led to the British conclusion for colonies to start paying more taxes in order to pay off these war debts and start making a profit for Britain. On the other hand, the colonies wanted things to stay the way they were. They saw the principle of foreign taxation as leading to a time when Britain would tax the colonies dry and make life there miserable. This led to the fight that eventually led to revolution and independence.
As tension escalated between the British colonies in the New World and the British, many individuals began to reach their breaking point. Much of this tension created violence and unjustified actions. However, the colonists’ fight for independence was condoned as the colonies shifted from outbreaks and riots to a serious Britain-free government ideal post the American Revolution. Such acts of the Americans were justified because the colonists only wanted freedom and independence. Instead of giving them what the colonists wanted, Britain took advantage of them using taxes and controlled them with a leader on the other side of the earth.
After the British defeated the French in the French-Indian War the British were in debt, they created more restrictions on colonists, a revolution

By 1765 when Parliament passed the Stamp Acts, the colonies were already governing themselves so a certain extent and smuggling goods to avoid the British taxes. The colonists were being taxed extensively so that Britain could pay back their debts from the Seven-Years War, which was not fair for the colonists to be paying for, seeing as the colonies had absolutely no involvement in the Seven-Years war.
The British decided to tax all paper goods, there was a catch, only American colonists would be taxed. In an excerpt from “An Act from granting and applying certain stamp duties,” “ WHEREAS by an Act made in the last Session of Parliament, several Duties were granted … Colonies and Plantations in America which now are, or hereafter may be, under the dominion of his Majesty, his Heirs and Successors.” (Stamp Act, King George III, 1765.) Since the British were not taxed on most goods, that led the colonists to feel as if they were treated

The French and Indian War had put Britain in debt so they began taxing the colonists. Britain also began to enforce laws made by the King of England. This led to the phrase "no taxation without representation". The colonists had no other choices but to try and settle their differences with Britain or attempt to break away.
