Week 6 Discussion
For the Week 6 Discussion you will create a Gantt chart for one element of the St. Dismas case study project. Using a project management tool like MS Project is typically the easiest and fastest way to do this. However, it is not the only way. You can use MS Office products as well to create the Gantt Chart.
Students often ask about the use of project management software applications in this course. In the past we required the use of MS Project for this course but removed it as a requirement when we rewrote the course. The reason we removed it was that MS Project has a very steep learning curve for all but the most basic functions. The software is very expensive and is not web-based so it requires installation on

Activity: A distinct, scheduled portion of work performed during the course of a project. (This is also referred to as a Task).
Critical Path: The sequence of activities that represents the longest path through a project, which determines the shortest possible duration.
Duration: The total number of work periods (not including holidays or other nonworking periods) required to complete a schedule activity or work breakdown structure component.
Predecessor: An activity that logically comes before a dependent activity in a schedule.
Summary Activity: A group of related schedule activities aggregated and displayed as a single activity.

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Task ID | Task Name | Duration | Predecessors | 0 | Stadium Construction Project | | | 1 | Prepare site | 10 wks (70 days) | | 2 | Old building
Critical path analysis identifies the most efficient and cost effective way of completing a complex project. The various activities which together will make up the project are identified, and the order of these activities are identified. Then, the duration of each activity is estimated and these factors are then arranged as a network or graph, showing the whole project from start to finish, and showing which tasks can happen at the same time. The sequence of tasks which have to be done one after another with no gaps in between is called the Critical Path.
3. What is (are) the critical path(s) in the project? What is the level of risk in completing tasks on the critical path(s)? Explain.
Critical path is the one that determines the shortest time to complete a project, which assumes low uncertainty and does not consider resource dependencies.
It demonstrates the workflow behaviour of a system which describes the state of activities by showing the sequence of activities performed in different order. The diagram has branches and forks to describe conditions and parallel activities.
Start-to-Start: this represents a true relationship between two activities and has nothing to do with their predecessors. If I happen to have two tasks that start at the same time because of a predecessor, that is better represented as two finish-to-start relationships (e.g. systems testing & developing documentation can both begin once development is complete, but there is no
2. Construct a table containing the project activities using the letter assigned to each activity, the time estimates, and the precedence relationships from which you will assemble the network diagram.
(Project definition: Planned set of interrelated tasks to be executed over a fixed period and within certain cost and other limitations)
2. Ericson, M. (2004, April 22). Activity Diagrams: What They Are and How to Use
In field of project management, there are a plethora of mechanisms under perpetual reevaluation. One specific segmentation of project management under such scrutiny pertains to cost duration, which is the time and monetary costs of completing individual tasks within the project’s critical path (IBM Knowledge Center, 2016). The process of monitoring and evaluating the time and financial impacts of each task is referred to as cost duration analysis (IBM Knowledge Center, 2016). A chief concern of cost duration analysis is identifying tasks within the project’s critical path which can reduce project duration (PMI, 2013). A common approach to reducing a project’s duration is task “crashing” (PMI, p.181). According to The Project Management Institute (2013) crashing refers to the process of methodical determining the financial value of increasing a critical path task’s resources in order to decrease project duration (p.181).
Activities are graphically represented by arrows, usually with description and time estimates written along the arrows. The tail of the arrow portraying an activity represents the starting point of the activity and its
At first should the terminology be defined. A project is "a unique set of coordinated activities, with a definite start and finishing point, undertaken by an individual or organisation to meet specific objectives within
This paper includes an outline of a presentation, command terms and definitions, examples of graphs and a Work Breakdown Schedule (WBS) on project management, and presented to the class at Crescent View High School. The focus will be on how to plan, schedule, monitor, and report on projects. Also included are the project management methodologies, tools and techniques used. The discussion to the class will begin with an opening statement that provides an overview of project management, terms and definitions, and an example of buying a house utilizing project management to manage activities.
Development of a phase schedule is an integral part of the LPS to a project.
Formulating a network diagram, likewise alluded to as a logic diagram, in order to comprehend and envision how each task will continue is an extraordinary path to begin. It is a basic idea within project management planning that is effectively utilising as a part of application, commonly used as a part of assembling commercial enterprises, and also to outline and comprehend work processes are what service industries requires. It distinctively shows the rational rules for influencing tasks. (Holland, 2014) The development of the network diagram by incorporating the project team acquires an agreement of comprehension of how the undertaking ought to be accomplished. Nonetheless, giving a discussion to testing acknowledged
