Spreading Christmas Cheer, One Smile at a Time
Sometimes, Christmas seems to be all about grand gestures… the tremendous Tree at Rockefeller Center and the incredible decorations we see everywhere we turn. Yet, strange as it may seem, sometimes it’s the tiny little decorations which really make us smile and hit us over the head with Christmas Spirit.
For example, in my experience, it’s impossible to maintain a bad mood, even in a crowded store, while wearing a Santa hat. I do much of my December shopping wearing mine, and I see smiles wherever I go. (It’s a lucky bonus that it’s probably my most comfortable winter hat. I would wear it until March, but those smiles would turn to worried stares after the Christmas season passes.) For the really brave among you, felt reindeer antlers can be purchases.

Your library can supplement your collection. Keep it diverse, from violin and piano carols to Elvis singing Blue Christmas. But from mid December until at least Christmas, keep the music “Holly Jolly”… you’ll find that your family is too!
Take a bit of red ribbon and wind it into you phone cord. Take another bit and wrap it through the spokes of your children’s bikes, being very careful to tie it securely. And a series of red bows tied onto the bushes outside your door will look incredibly festive, especially if you choose to accent them with some lights.
Some more red or green ribbon can hold a pinecone rolled in peanut butter and bird food to a nearby tree. The birds you’ll attract, particularly on a snowy day, will remind you a bit about the spirit of the season.
In the final analysis, it’s frequently these small traditions that make a difference. I’ll always cherish the smiles we receive when shopping in our Santa hats, or when a stranger notices the small touches of Christmas I’ve added to my everyday routines. Those smiles mean Christmas to
Christmas like Thanksgiving believe it or not, do happen to share many traits. One major factor that the two own is the warmth and love of bringing family and close friends together. It’s the few times a year that everyone has a reason to all gather around to
In the blistering cold of a dim Christmas Eve, a man with a frozen heart of stone was able to find a spark of warmth and goodness through the three spirits that guided him to hope and happiness. In A Christmas Carol, a classic tale by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge, a man with a cold empty heart who had learnt a lesson of a lifetime. He never could comprehend and seem to understand why people were so joyous on this one specific day, as he preferred to live his life alone and in the dark. When requested to donate some money for the poor, he greedily rejected and responded with a cruel answer. In the heartwarming and magical story, this stingy man travels through time to the past, present, and future with three different spirits to learn
Albert Einstein says,“There are two way to live your life. One as though nothing is a miracle, the other as though everything is a miracle.” In A Christmas Carol Scrooge does not appreciate anything, but throughout the story he begins to appreciate everything around him since he knows it will not be eternal. Three spirits visit Scrooge on Christmas morning to teach him the error of his ways. After the spirits visit Scrooge he feels guilty, so Scrooge changes his ways and his view of the holidays to better himself.
As we approach the holiday season, we occasionally lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas while on getting a steal on our favorite pair of boots. Christmas is a time for honoring Jesus and giving. For my community service activity, I helped my grandmother decorate her house for Christmas on December 20th.
Following this bitter blow, the Ghost of Christmas Present leads Scrooge on a tour of two more families: that of his nephew and of his clerk. The vision of Scrooge’s clerk’s family – the Cratchits – paints an intricate example of the beauty of family. As Dickens explains, “They were not a handsome family; they were not well dressed; their shoes were far from being water-proof; their clothes were scanty… But they were happy, grateful, pleased with one another, and contented with the times…” (page 54). The Cratchits possessed minimal earthly wealth, and even had an ill son, yet they displayed incredible joy! The joy, warmth, affection, and laughter surrounding the Cratchits’ Christmas celebration brought Scrooge to the realization that the “Christmas spirit” does not depend on any material possessions, or even on situations. Joy is a choice, and that choice is made easier when we are surrounded by the ones we love.

There are several Symbols associated with Christmas, Santa Claus, Snow or cold weather, Wreaths, garland , wrapping paper and a Christmas tree. Society does not look at Halloween costumes or a hot sunny day and think of Christmas, although when I noticed that some retailers have Halloween, thanksgiving and Christmas décor out, it does not seem to mesh well. But retailers are showing society these symbols getting them thinking about what’s coming soon.
With the wreaths and Yule logs that come standard with this holiday comes a caring from deep in the hearts of people unbeknownst to them at any other time of the year. At the sight of the Christmas decor and the flames roaring at the hearth, a warmth envelops the heart, one with which no flame, however hot, could compete. We see in our gift-wrap and our greeting cards and our holiday stockings an entirely new persona occupying this world we live in, reprieving us from the daily heartaches we all know as familiar.
The scent of fresh pine and baked turkey dominates over all senses, surging into the crisp air of the kitchen. Presents are stacked to the brim of the Christmas tree, while a toy train intermittently passes by. Effervescent ornaments sparkle with the memories of past years. Rooms are full with aunts, uncles, distant cousins, all of who push their troubles aside to celebrate this day once a year: Christmas . It is chaos, but the good kind.
A Christmas Carol at Playhouse in the Park in Cincinnati, Ohio has continued to entertain and surprise its audiences since it’s first production in 1991. A Christmas Carol is a story that can live on for decades as it’s theme and message will always universally apply to people. The director, Michael Even Haney, discussed his reasons for returning to Playhouse in the Park each year in the director’s notes of this year’s program. He says, “But the major reason I return every year to tell this perfect Christmas story is YOU, the audience. From 1991, our first year, Cincinnati has enthusiastically embraced this production and many have made it a family tradition. Seeing the faces of the children entering the theatre and getting their first glimpse of the set, hearing their squeals at Marley’s entrance and their laughter as Scrooge enjoys his redemptive metamorphosis- these moments sweeten my holiday season like nothing else.” As Michael Evan Haney said, A Christmas Carol is a lively story that can offer each audience member an important life lesson that can live forever. The story of Ebenezer Scrooge is one that people all over the world may be familiar with, but Playhouse in the Park’s rendition of this famous story does more than do the story justice. Their rendition entertains, excites, and satisfies the audience during the busy holiday season each year. In this review of A Christmas Carol at Playhouse in the Park, I will discuss the actors, scenery, lighting, and costumes of
You should decorate your party venue with flag lanterns. All you need are some pickled jars and small US flags that you can buy all over Hudson Valley. Remove any labels from the clear, glass jars, fold the flag at your desired position and use glue or tape the flag to the jar. Place a tea light inside and you have a lovely lighting for the evening.
Lights. Check. Beads. Check. Ornaments. Check. Angel. Check. But there is still something missing. How could one forget the most important item? A Christmas tree! There are infinitely different ways to decorate many different trees.
Those who live on a ranch, and those who wish they did will enjoy fun, ranch Christmas ornaments. From rustic stars, horses, and cowboys, to tractors, and horseshoes, adorn tree branches with reminders of quiet, country living, and the hard, but satisfying work of ranch life. Low prices make it easy to do up the entire tree, or add just a few pieces.
Not all miracles come in big packages. In fact some are the tiniest of all. Yet a miracle is a miracle no matter how small!
