Hinduism originated in India over four thousand years ago. The India-based religion lacks an individual founder. In the beginning, the term “Sanatana Dharma” erupted; but Sanatana Dharma soon transformed to “Hindu” after Islamic invasions occurred: “the Muslim invaders pronounced H for I” (Patheos), thus, the inhabitants along the Indus River were called “Hindus” as a result. The primary goal Hindus hope to achieve is to become reincarnated – thus reaching closer and closer to the state of nirvana every Hindu is called to with each transformation after death. Trade and immigration influenced the spread of Hinduism throughout the world: “Hinduism spread to…Southeast Asia. Indian Brahmins may have arrived in the area through trade…they [the rulers] seemed to have gravitated to…the Hindu religious practices” (Opposing Views). Whilst migrating from country to country in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Indian immigrants searched for jobs, and once becoming wealthy, mandirs sprung up like livestock around the country of Great Britain. In addition, in 1906, the …show more content…
For example, Christians retreat to Churches, Muslims worship in mosques, Jews pray in temples, etc. But the significance of Hindu temples is the fact that there are only four “holy places”: “…[they] correspond to the four points of the compass and near which…Shankara established his four main centers” (Holy Places). In contrast to majority of devout religions, Hinduism participates in the worship of many gods – thus making it a polytheistic religion consisting of a Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The Brahma is the The Creator, and a member of the Hindu Trinity. Brahma intimately creates everything in the universe. In addition, Vishnu maintains the balance and harmony of the universe. Last but not least, Shiva perpetually destroys the universe: “it’s the necessary step to make renewal possible” (Hindu Gods and
In Chapter ten the history of Hinduism is discussed in America and India. Instead of illustrating the religious doctrines of Hinduism. The author lists statistics about the livelihoods of Asian Indians. For example, there are eighteen different official languages in India. As the author emphasizes that doctrines have nothing to do with Hinduism, but the actions that individuals commit. The orthodoxy is a set of responsibilities that Hindus must carry out. If they wish to be reincarnated into a higher caste. In addition, the origin of Hinduism is mentioned within the chapter. That Hinduism is the only major religion that does not have a founder and has no beginning as there is not a specific known date of when it originated. Moreover, Hinduism is the oldest major religion and is the only polytheistic faith among the five popular creeds.
Archaeologists have found places of worship from the culture of the Indus River Valley. This means even though barbarians these Hindus were civilized Nomads who followed their religion wherever it went with permanent home. Beginning since the fourth century to the eleventh century.
The oldest religion shown in this info graphic is Hinduism. With the birth of Krishna in 3,000 B.C.E, Hinduism is the earliest founded of all the religions. Hinduism would soon grow and diffuse throughout the rest of India. As time goes on, Buddha is born in one of the northern-most parts of India. This leads to the founding of a new religion, Buddhism. Buddhism spreads rapidly throughout parts of Asia, surprisingly, not affecting the area in which Hinduism is prominent. While Christianity spread in the West, Buddhism flourished in the East, becoming prominent is China, Korea, The Philippines, and Eastern Russia. Hinduism also grew at this point, traveling to countries in Southeast Asia like Vietnam and Thailand. As it stands today, Hinduism
Unlike many modern day religions, there are no clear origins of Hinduism. Hinduism is a fusion of various Indian cultures and traditions that over time molded into a religion. Its main roots, however, are in the Indus Valley civilization which was located in what is today known as northwest India and eastern Pakistan between 2500 and 1500 B.C.E, along with the Aryan culture and religion which existed between 1500 and 500 B.C.E. This dates back almost 4,000 years, which makes it one of the oldest religions to date (“Hinduism Influences”). The term Hinduism, however, wasn't always used to describe the religion. The word Hinduism is derived from the Persian word that refers to the Sindhu River in northwest India, and was adopted as a way to refer to the people of that region. By the end of the 19th century, however, the British Colonial Administration began to use the word Hinduism to describe the various religious beliefs and practices of the majority of India's population (“Hinduism Origins, Hinduism History, Hinduism Beliefs.”).
Hinduism has undergone many changes throughout its nearly four thousand years of history. Hinduism doesn’t have a founder or date of origin making it the world’s oldest surviving world religion and the third largest religion worldwide. Hinduism was introduced to the world in the nineteenth century and has 330 million deities in India according to tradition. Hinduism existed in the religions that were practiced by the early Dravidian people. The Brahmanic tradition existed during the Vedic age which is traced back to thousands of years ago. Philosophical systems such as Samkhya, Advaita, Vedanta and yoga were developed long ago in India.
To get from South India to South Florida, normally, a person would need to travel roughly 15,117 km or 9,394 miles. Being that it is hardly just a hop, skip, and a jump away, members of the South Florida community, who are also a part of the Hindu community, desperately wanted a place where they could feel close to their motherland and yet remain near their newfound homes. To ensure this dream would become a reality, devotees gathered funds and support from friends and families to build what would later be known as the South Florida Hindu Temple. Interestingly, this temple, dissimilar to many others in the country, was built strictly from love and charity. All of the funds used to create the holy place
After a profound spiritual realization, the Buddha gathered many followers. He organized them into a community that fundamentally reshaped religious, social, and political structures. Hinduism is a perpetually evolving collection of an astounding array of philosophical, ritual, and devotional traditions. There is no founder, and there is no fixed moment of origin. Hindus often refer to their religion as "sanatana
The origin of Hinduism is a mystery, because there is no founder for this religion. This religion developed over four thousand years ago. There is no author for this religions scared literature. This religion is believed to originate around 2000 B.C. on the continent of India. This religion is considered one of the longest surviving religions. The first people to practice this religious belief are
Hinduism is quite different from Western Religions. Hinduism is a way of life not, simply created by one person. For example, Jesus Christ and his followers spread the word about God. Christianity has the top number of followers today however, there are multiple variations on this religion. Hinduism is a well-known religion as well but, not a widely practiced. Hinduism followers don’t do missionary work like Christians are known to do. Christians will knock at your door and ask for a moment of your time to talk about their lord and savior.
Hinduism is the world's oldest religion and has stuck to its core concepts because it “was well developed and had evolved without significant interference.”, according to the lecture “Information for Project on Hinduism” by Stephen Herring. This means that the religion was already evolved and stable before colonialism of India could impact their beliefs. Many religions were often influenced by other cultures or foreign invaders forcing them to assimilate, but fortunately Hinduism was already fully formed before they were colonized by Muslims and the British. For example, as North America was being colonized by English colonists, the Native Americans were forced to convert to Christianity and assimilate. Native Americans never had a chance to
Hinduism is estimated to have its roots beginning as early as 2500 BCE; it is the third largest religion in the world (900 million followers.) It is a complex system of beliefs that is closely intertwined with the similarly complex culture and society of India. It started in its infancy in the Indus Valley near what is now known as Pakistan where an Aryan invasion brought the influence of the Sanskrit language to the developing religion. Its teachings were prehistorically transmitted orally, and it now encompasses multiple languages and races. The ancient texts of Hinduism – the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Epics, and the Puranas – gave the religion a written set of scriptures and creeds starting in 1500 BCE. The Maurya and Gupta empires facilitated
The roots of Hinduism spring from the traditions of the peoples of the Indus Valley, in the more developed Dravidian culture, and from the Vedic religion of the Aryans. Though “Hinduism” has no origin: it is the eternal way that follows the basic rules and demands of cosmic order as passes through unending cycles. So Hindus call their own faith and practice sanatana dharma. In Vedic religion of Hinduism, the Divine was manifest and approachable in many aspects of life, to be worshiped as Gods and Goddesses. Within Hinduism they have Shiva The Destroyer, The Mother Goddess Mahadevi, Vishnu The Preserver and a handful of other Gods. What’s so eye catching about Hinduism is that it has no single founder, no single scripture, and no commonly agreed set of teachings unlike many other known religions. Hindu’s goal to life is to attain self- realization and in my eyes that’s quite remarkable. Hinduism is the oldest religion among the existing larger religions. The reason you see many Hindu’s bathing in rivers or lakes is because touching water is accepted as spiritual, it is believed that the water has positive vibrations and also the ability to pass it on. These are the reasons why Hinduism is so special and unique as well as popular in India.
Hinduism embrace the beliefs that the world has been destroyed and restored many times, that God presents himself in three forms that include Brahma, who created the world, Vishnu, who sustains the world, and Shiva, who controls the cycle of destroying and restoring the world. Karma is another belief associated with Hinduism, which espouses that every deed or action results in a consequence (Alamu, 2009).
Hinduism was one of the religions that I found to be most intriguing and different than most of the religions that are now major. The word Hindu is derived from the Sanskrit word Sindhu which is what the Persians called them because of where they were from. Hindu are those who follow the way of dharma, the four classes of varnas and stages of life ashramas.” Hinduism is a major world religion because of its influences throughout time that have shaped other religions that branched off from it. Hinduism is an ancient religion that was founded near 1,500 B.C. It is a religion that has perceiver through many different times of persecution and its one enemy time. It originated in India which is what many Indus people originated. Most Hindus
Another reason is that a new religion, Buddhism appealed to many people in India and
