Sports Medicine Pathway
The Sports Medicine pathway is a curriculum that provides an educational option for students who have successfully completed the Health Sciences Core. This pathway is designed to give students the education, training and hands-on learning opportunities they need to explore careers in sports medicine. The program offers students an opportunity to learn through an integrated curriculum, career exploration, job shadowing, and internships. The class teaches students about the prevention and care of athletic injuries including components of exercise science, anatomy, safety, first aid and emergency services associated with injuries in sports. Students will also learn about legal issues, nutrition, protective sports equipment,
Sports has always been a huge part of my life. I would be the one team player who took the sports season a little bit too seriously. I was the number 1 doubles player on my school's JV tennis team. Unfortunately, I fractured my ankle during my junior year and wasn't able to play with my team. I was devastated, but I didn’t allow myself to become disconnected from my team. I became the team manager to allow myself to still play a role in my team, despite my injury. I would record scores to my division leaders and take pictures to post on the website I created for my team. After the season was over, my doctor told me my ankles required surgery to become fully healed. I knew that meant I couldn’t continue to play tennis, but I didn’t want to give
It’s all over the news. At least, it’s all over the sports news. There is even a movie that is entirely about this one injury. The invisible injury. An injury that can present itself as simple headaches to nausea to dizziness to complete loss of consciousness. Something that is described as a bruise to the brain caused by a bump or a blow to the head has become an athlete’s worst nightmare: a concussion (What).
In High School there are some specific classes I need to take. When I looked on CFNC.org I noticed that most of the classes it recommended me to take were related to mathematics, science, and career specific classes. In order to be a sports medicine physician you need to be good at math and science. My suggested plan said to take Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry 1, Biology, Physical Science, and other classes.
The Public Affairs Specialist position you are currently appointed to has been approved to be filled as a permanent position. If you would like to request non-competitive consideration for the position, please complete the attached, send it thru
athletes in an effort to prevent injuries. They work in amateur and professional sports. Once injuries occur, the athletic trainer is required to evaluate the problem and get the athlete the proper medical treatment. He or she also makes sure that athletes are physically ready and able to play after an injury. Athletic trainers set up physical conditioning programs for athletes, work with equipment managers to make sure that playing and training areas are in working order, and also work with physicians in developing and implementing a rehabilitation program for injured players. Athletic trainers work in offices, treatment
Many things were accomplished because of the French Revolution from better prices to less legal privileges for nobility. The Haitian Revolution also had unbelievable results, like ending slavery and creating more social equality. The French and Haitian Revolutions were mostly similar. Both revolutions did end up with different governments in the end, Haiti a dictatorship, and France a monarchy. Though the reason for the revolutions were the same.
This year the opportunity to look into my future arose, and I acted on it. I was given the opportunity to job shadow an athletic trainer at Northwest Nazarene University. Athletic trainers, or ATs, are health care professionals that work alongside physicians to provide preventative care, emergency aid, clinical diagnosis, and rehabilitation to injuries. I have chosen to study this career because I have been involved in athletics since the fifth grade, and I want to stay involved in athletics for a very long time.
Many people are more active today than they were many years ago. Injury prevention and diagnosis plays a big role in today’s society. Preventing an injury is important for many athletes all over the world, and for people that are physically active. Preventing injuries can benefit an athlete in the long run. Athletic trainers help athletes and physically active people stay healthy for what they do on a daily basis.
Being an athletic trainer in various sports for over five years, Pete has a great deal of insight and suggestions for someone who is interested in the field. As I am now considering a supplementary degree in athletic training, Pete has been exceptionally helpful in guiding me through that world. As many of my courses in Kinesiology also apply to an Athletic Training degree, he proposes that I get another bachelor’s degree, as it would take only a short period of time. In lieu of that option, he recommends that I begin a master’s program in athletic training upon completion of my current degree. Nevertheless, I must first decide if this career is the proper choice by evaluating the negative and positive aspects.
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
Injury is a serious public health issue. Injuries differ by their nature and severity. Injuries can be unintentional or intentional. Unintentional injuries include road traffic injuries, falls, burns, drowning, poisoning, and intentional injuries include self-inflicted injuries, interpersonal violence, and war-related injuries [1,2,3]. Globally, injury causes over five million deaths per year [1,2,3]. Injury cases result in more deaths than HIV-AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined (3.8 million) [1,3,4]. Nonfatal injuries represent a large proportion of the injury burden and deaths represent a small proportion [4]. Most injuries result in significant psychological trauma, potentially life-long disability, and subsequent financial loss [4].
This study deals with high school athletics and their long-term effect in the lives of those who participate; it also deals with the positive and negative aspects of athletics during high school, and the treatment of those who participate. This study was conducted with qualitative data obtained from five personal interviews with previous high school athletes. These five people come from a range of places, ages, and experience. Conclusions are that participation in high school athletics is a contributor to a better social life and experience during high school. Good friends and influences are obtained through the pursuit of high school athletics. The long-term effects
Animal Farm written by George Orwell is meant to be the Russian Revolution but with animals. These animals allowed me to pick out lessons that no other book would. The lessons were to stay away from corruption, to stay away from absolute power, and what the use of propaganda can do. Propaganda is used for convincing someone or something, but when a person holds all of the power in his hands it is for themselves and not his people or in this case animals. These three lessons damaged the story the most because of Napoleon and the way he abused his power.
Today in sports athletes endure many mental and physical obstacles from there competitive environment. Many of today's best athletes work with sports psychologists to help them handle the pressures found in this competitive atmosphere. One question that athletes ask is, why cant they play in big games as well as they anticipate themselves doing? Sports psychologists feel that spending all their time on body conditioning and athletic skills will not ensure that athletes reach their peak performance.
I remember fracturing my ankle once from a soccer injury. I took around a month or two to rehabilitate my injury. The physician was able to answer all the questions I had as well as teach me how to walk again after removing my cast. His knowledge of the body and how fast he could recall the information fascinated me. Of course there is also my mother who is a nurse, and she also wants me to be a doctor. In addition to that, my passion to help people added on to my curiosity of pursuing a life in the medical field. It was not until I took Honors Biology 1 with Professor Do at IVC that my interest in biology was made certain. I originally wanted to be a clinical psychologist, but the reason I strayed from it was because I wanted to deal with
