In this week's Sports Business Journal an article that really stuck with me was the “Daily fantasy ad buys makes NFL a big winner” I am just learning about sport fantasy so the information given was a very interesting insight. Fantasy is a newer concept that has only been around for a couple of years, yet it is a fast growing market. One of the big reasons that I think this market is picking up such momentum is because it is on a personal level where you make the decisions. However for business and marketing this is a terrific opportunity to doing things like ads because of the number in the audience that you would be reaching. In the article is states that “ fantasy companies has added more than $200 million in ad sales revenue for the NFL’s

Economic theory introduces us to four different types of markets: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Professional sports teams operate in an environment that is different than the typical business structure. The goal of this paper is to look at this industry, in particular the NFL, in an economics context and gain an understanding of the market structure of this unique industry. To do this I will discuss a brief history of the National Football League in the U.S. and how this organization is structured. I will also discuss typical market structures and type of
Since the inception of fantasy sports companies, very few industries have grown this significantly in such a short time span. Since the surge in popularity of daily fantasy betting FanDuel and DraftKings have launched aggressive efforts to expand in order to reach the 51 million current fantasy sports users in the US and Canada alone. Although approximately 38% of Americans admitted to betting on sports in 2008, fantasy sports companies are also experiencing increased scrutiny from state regulators. Criticism stems from the belief that daily fantasy sports betting is considered to be online gambling and therefore should be illegal or heavily regulated at the state level. Multiple
The National Football League (NFL) is an example of the incredibly successful industry generated by the sport. This business has been, and continues to be, the highest earning sports league in the United States. Average revenue that a franchise earns in the NFL is 286 million dollars, with the closest industry trailing behind being Major League Baseball (MLB) averaging almost 50 million dollars less (Gaines). Another aspect to observe with this comparison is putting in proportion how much more is made per game since football has significantly fewer games. The NFL creates its leading revenue in only a 16 game regular season, whereas the MLB falls short after playing 162 entire games. Putting this into perspective, an NFL team generates an average 17.8 million dollars a game, but an MLB team generates only 1.4 million dollars a game. Revenue
For many companies, sales figures are usually a measure success, tennis is no exception. In North America, tennis can be measured by the annual racket and tennis ball sales (Heitner, 2015). Prince Sports, a sports racquet company, has several different product lines. Their Prince brand serves tennis, squash, and badminton players. Racquet ball players may recognize the Ektelon brand and the Viking product line equips platform or table tennis players. Prince Sport’s tennis line consists of over 150 different racquet models, more than 50 different tennis string variants, footwear, apparel, and countless types of bags. Prince Sports has prided themselves on their history of developing innovative items such as the first oversize long
Fantasy sports has evolved from its humble roots as the niche Dungeons & Dragons-esque intersection of sports fandom and statistical nerdiness. According to Fantasy Sports Trade Association market research conducted by Ipsos, there are over 36.6 million people playing fantasy sports in the United States and Canada and is a rapidly growing industry that generates over a billion dollars per year. The once maligned cult hobby has grown into an undeniable sports subculture, commanding regular coverage from all major sports networks, in addition to active online communities, podcasts, and even paid services catering to fantasy sports players.

Fantasy sports have become very popular among sports consumers and fantasy football is the leading fantasy sport. This research aspired to gain an understanding of fantasy football and the motivations behind playing. This is important because there has not been a lot of research done on fantasy football and it is becoming very important in the sports world. I participated in one fantasy football league and observed another when the groups would get together to watch the games every week. I also conducted interviews from the members of the groups. It was found that the three main motivations were social bonding, bragging rights, and competition. There was another theme that arose from the research and that was about gambling, specifically if fantasy football were to become illegal how it
Sport agents negotiate contracts for athletes. However, their responsibilities don’t stop at a business representative but also include a mentor, advisor, lawyer, and mostly a friend. Professional athletes tend to get mixed into legal problems at some point in their career and the agents are there to take control of the problem. Although, a sport agent may not be a lawyer, so they have their own people that may come in and provide that certain service. Along with a professional athlete comes media attention, an agent would be a second voice for his/her client.
Great post Desiree, You have described the sports bar very well in your discussion. The sports bar that you describe with all The Television around the establishment, the different games to enjoy, and different choice of beverage to choose from. With your discretion of the sports bar that you mention, I never been to a sport bar that have all the different quality as what you discuss. Where I am from some of the bars are lacking a lot of entertainment for their guest to enjoy themselves. Thank you for sharing your post and I will be looking forward into reading more of your discussion in the future.
According to Dan Ariely, James B. Duke Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics, and Bryan Stevenson, American lawyer and social justice activist, today’s world is experiencing a huge issue of society's growing inequality and one of the brightest examples of the inequality is the America's justice system. The thing is that society is not aware of that kind of growing issue and how it stacks up to the real stats.
Fantasy sports have many different types of leagues. There are endless advertising commercials about fantasy sports leagues and sites. “Torrential television advertising by DraftKings and FanDuel is creating millions of customers for these sports fantasy business” (Will). “DraftKings & FanDuel, are the dominant companies offering the increasingly popular form of gambling in which a player can go online, pay an entry fee, picknew fantasy team every day & complete against other players” (Zorn). Fantasy sports have lots of competition & rivalry in different business.

Because of their centrality to the American home life and high viewership, football games are the most costly commercial space. For the 2016/2017 football season, the price of a 30-second ad for Thursday Night Football on CBS has increased by almost 15% to be $529,989. This increase, however, has a negative correlation with the number of people watching football on CBS. The article states that this particular season, factors like the focus on the presidential election and the wider availability of football on various networks can account for a decline in viewership. It is important for advertisers to focus on the numbers they will be reaching when it comes to
The magazine I chose to analyze was the November 30th edition of Sports Illustrated, Lights, Cam, Action. This magazine is dominantly about male professional and collegiate level sports, with the occasional article about a female. Being that this edition was published in November, the middle of football season, the main sport that is featured throughout the magazine is football. Although football is the main focus, other sports such as track, wrestling, soccer, basketball and others are featured in various articles. The article length in this particular magazine vary, but the average is usually around two pages. Cam Newton is the star of this edition, with his picture on the cover, and a five page spread of him in the magazine. He is portrayed as a hero, which would make any Carolina Panthers fan happy (Pg. 32). The reading level in this magazine is not too challenging, but may be difficult for some. This magazine advertises typical products that are
