The third resource that I used is from the Office of Justice Programs/Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). A specific article titled “Intimate Partner Violence in the United States” shows a graph of intimate partner violence rates declining from 1993 to 2006. The article is quite vague, with no real description or stats stating whether or not men commit more violence against women than women do against men. “Violence between intimates is difficult to measure because it often occurs in private, and victims are often reluctant to report incidents to anyone because of shame or fear of reprisal” (S. Catalano).

The public University I choose to research was the University of South Florida. USF was one of the two universities I choose to pursue my undergraduate degree my first choice was UF (University of Florida). USF has the same mascot as my high school, which are the Bulls. Founded in 1956, USF is the fourth-largest public university in the state of Florida. The University of South Florida is a major metropolitan research university located in the heart of Tampa Bay. USF has three campuses, which serves nearly 48,000 students at its institutions combine and has about 1,700 instructional facilities.

I will now be explaining the five roles of research and giving an example for each one of the roles. The five roles of research include: research to inform policy or practice, research to extend knowledge and understanding, research to improve practice, research to aid reflection and allow progress to be monitored and finally research to examine topics of contemporary importance.

As established by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the past is something that has existed in a time before the present; a series of events that occurred previously. In the contrary, the present are events that are occurring in the moment, and the future, events that will occur. Now, the past plays a huge role on what we are and will be. The greatest philosophers have concluded through time that history repeats itself because citizens are not aware of the situations that occurred in the past, being that the reason why it repeats. Since the past is a determining factor of our future, one should learn and acknowledge events that marked our lives, and at the same be conscious about the history, so these events do not happen again.

This article analyzed the positive experiences of twelve individuals who had visible differences (Egan et al 2011, p. 739). This study discovered four main elements that helped people to interpret their related experiences in a positive way. Generally, it can be seen that the authors applied interpretive social science (Neuman 2006, p. 87) to produce this study to capture participants’ experiences and feelings. There are some advantages that can be yielded by utilizing this perspective. Firstly, the authors were able to understand individuals’ different social lives. The complex social factors can be extracted to interpret participants’ feelings and emotions from their personal experiences. It was

“A Stranger in this Century”: An Analysis of Sexuality in Gothic Literature of the Nineteenth Century Demonstrated in Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” Edgar Allan Poe is regarded as the father of the short story with a dark romantic style rooted in the Gothic mode. Gothic fiction of the nineteenth century was about “reaching into some undefinable world beyond fictional reality” (Haggerty 10) in order to comment and critique the society in which the author lived in. This concept suggests that sexuality was used within the Gothic as an attempt to “rewrite the psychic reality” (10) in order to shift the “range and complexity of cultural control” (10) as a means to challenge the status quo and to expand upon Gothic’s own influence

To know the past is to know the future. In his essay Knowing History and Knowing Who We Are, David McCullough argues about the importance of studying and teaching history. In his essay, he explains that there are three main points about history: character and its effect upon destiny, our failure of teaching the future generation, and the importance of learning and listening to history. David McCullough strongly advocates that audience should start to listen to and teach about the past in order to learn about the way a person’s character can affect their destiny.

The study for this thesis will be exploratory research using secondary data collected by the communication agency, MESH Planning. The agency developed an innovative approach called ‘real-time experience tracking’, which involves three stages of data collection. And both qualitative and quantitative data will be collected and used in this context in order to get an insight of critical incidents.
