Do you ever feel like you have one foot in the door of spiritual awaking and the other in the world? Our being is not here, though we are willing to fill the gap. Visiting on Earth; all the while aspiring to leave a mark that is our own, as we pass through. The soul is in constant need to fill the gap, relentlessly battling with the spirit that gives us life. The gap can only be filled by the father that births the Spirit. As a human being we are in a perpetual venture to gain a spiritual awaking and belonging when the world is our teacher. The world teaches us to trust not and to look for unending turmoil. We receive glimmers of hope and a glance of serenity, so we rest until we are rocked; reminded that nothing is constant on Earth.
About a year ago, I began to find genuine interest in spiritual knowledge and learning, and its value and many applications outside of formal education and studies. I began researching philosophers and reading their works regarding spiritualism, new ways of thinking and perceiving things, as well as how our lives as human work in conjunction with the universe around us. I find this kind of thinking, and discovering some of the infinite wealth of knowledge around me, to be both personal and liberating.
Pathfinders today I am going to help you see how important it is to be spiritually minded in today’s society.
For this paper I decided to sit down with my childhood friend from my St. Thomas More Catholic School days. Katarina and I have known each other since we were 5 years old. I remember attending church with her family on Sunday morning, spending the night at her house, occasionally attending her family's BBQ's on Easter Sunday, and inviting her to all my birthday parties at Chuck E Cheese. Though we lost touch after high school we found each other again thanks to social media. We are both from Hispanic Catholic families so it was always assumed that we would grow up to be Catholic too. To my surprise I found that on Katie's social media page under religious views it did not say Catholic as I expected but rather Wicca. Turns out Katie decided that the Catholic faith wasn't for her and opted instead to convert to Wicca.
It appears the Holy Spirit has graciously lead me into your midst for my required internship this academic year. As a student at United Theological Seminary for a second masters in Religious Leadership, I am writing to you today to tell you a little bit about myself.

From about the early 1600s-mid 1800s, African-American spiritual were very popular amongst the black community. They were originally formed to provide comfort and ease the boredom of daily tasks. Also, they were a form of spiritual devotion and a longing for freedom from slavery. You may be surprised to hear that some popular songs, such as “Amazing Grace”, were originally African-American spirituals. Another famous spiritual is “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” by Wallis Willis. The term “spiritual” comes from the Kings James Bible translation of Ephesians 5:19: “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Typically when singing spirituals,
We have to keep growing closer to God so we have more spiritual substance. The closer we get to God, the easier it to keep getting closer to
Theologians and experts on religion often hear such calls for pragmatic, to do with business training in skills like church the government, marketing, and other parts of quality of being a chief as an attack on the system of beliefs forming a religion. in fact, influential evangelicals such as George Barna have supported the Church to the group, time of work from training and placing old and wise pastoral/teachers over congregations, in-kind act of giving in VisionaryCeo sorts. in harmony with to this story, account, about-beliefs acumen becomes a coming after first or chief thought at a best, beg the question about what happens when Christian leaders become better and better at saying less and less.
The Spirituality Scavenger Hunt gave me a different, unique perspective of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, my new school. When going to IUPUI I was not surrounded by spirituality like I am here. I never took time to tour my beautiful school, let alone understand the meaning behind it. As my group went around and gave their definition of spirituality, it broadened the way I think about God and why things happen the way they do. The most important take-away from this great experience, is not to judge someone on their beliefs and values. Everyone sees and thinks about things differently, and I really learned a breathtaking lesson from my fellow classmates. I learned new ways of practicing spirituality during our scavenger hunt. I learned that I can practice
For this first Experience Paper I went to a Mormon Church with one of my dance teachers and her family. I had never gone to a Mormon Church before so the experience was new to me.
Baseball, the American past-time, and faith journeys are similar in their end goal. There are many players who are on Spring training teams that want to make it to the majors and their journey, through hard work is, kind of, what we do in the church. I will now discuss how the ideals of baseball are similar to our faith journeys. One aspect of baseball, spring training, is similar to our faith journeys. Spring training is similar to many of our faith journeys because in this life we are showing God that we’re ready to be with him in our next life.
Do you see that you don’t need to travel your spiritual journey alone? To bear the fruits of your spiritual beliefs requires assistance from a Higher
The principles of discipleship can be found throughout the Bible. One of the ultimate goals of discipleship is to become more Christ like which makes Jesus's life and grace an excellent basis for discipleship. Jesus invested in twelve men, the first Disciples, and entrusted them to continue the process. Peter, James, and John were a part of Christ's inner circle and he fostered and encouraged an exalted spiritual life and growth in these three. Paul was a Pharisee who was murdering Christians and then his life was transformed and he became an apostle. He gave his life over to God's purpose not only in a broad perspective, bringing the Gospel to the Gentiles, but also personal. Timothy was a disciple of Paul; Paul was personally involved in Timothy's life. The Great Commission commands the Disciples, in Matthew 28:19, to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". The Disciples followed the Great Commission and Christianity spread. Believers are meant to follow the
I’d like to state the most obvious observation that I’ve made about spiritual formation; that is that I will always need to be seeking for ways to nurture my personal spirituality throughout my life. I know that to most people this may sound like a “duh” statement, but for me it has truly become a reality and one that I must admit I have been struggling to embrace. I was brought up in a church that, like most traditional churches, stayed happy living in the “comfort zone” of their Christianity. They took everything that the Bible said at face value without digging in to find out why they believed what they believed. I had never been challenged to look deeper into the text. In the past few years I have felt the need to tunnel out of this
For a Christian, spiritual care is assisting a person toward a closer relationship with God through Jesus Christ (Shelly & Miller, 2006). I agree with this. Nursing is a profession that applies spiritual care by giving hope to the hopeless by staying with a sick person and offering support when medical science can no longer offer a cure (Shelly & Miller, 2006). This is what I find so fortunate about being a nurse. Nurses are able to apply their gift toward helping others. We have opportunities to pray for each patient. Spiritual care integrates caring for the whole person by assessing the spiritual needs of each patient. Providing spiritual care can be as simple as being present, praying, and sharing scripture, or it can be arranging referrals,
