Spirited Away (2002) produced by Studio Ghibli, it is a dramatic animation told in the point of view of a ten year old girl, Chihiro. She is forced to work in a bathhouse for exhausted spirits. She is then forced to tend to the every need of these beings. She has to escape the bathhouse and the grasp of her Master/Boss (Yubaba) and save her parents lives. Hayao Miyazaki is the writer and director of this wonderful film. The leading roles are: Chihiro (Daveigh Chase), Haku (Jason Marsden), Yubaba and Zeniba (Suzanne Pleshette), and Kamaji (David Ogden Stiers). Dramatic animation is an animated film that shows any type of drama basically. This can be any type of animation from 3D to 2D to motion graphics and many more. A drama is a genre in which it relies on emotional developments as well as characters that you can relate with. The drama element is there of course because Chihiro (Sen) is trying to get back to the human world and has to save her parents life, all while trying to stay alive herself. That is a lot of pressure for a 10 year old, right? In one scene in the beginning her parents decide to eat this huge, freshly prepared meal that was just sitting out in an abandoned amusement park (nothing weird about that) and then they literally turn into pigs. Big Fat Pigs engorging themselves in many platters of food as tall as they are! That seems quite dramatic. Another was when she needed to work in the bathhouse; she literally signed her name away and was given a new name, Sen. This symbolizes her life, identity, everything. You are nothing without your name. After she signed it away she started to forget parts of her life, this was how her “Boss” tried to control her. In the film she comes across a masked shadowy figure, No Face, he is a really lonely spirit that just wants friends. However he is unwanted. No one wants a friend without a face, that’s well… terrifying. It also doesn’t help that he eats them when they wrong him. Yes, a figure with no face eats them with a mouth that opens on the “abdomen” area of its shadowy form. They also weren’t true friends, they only liked him because he gave them gold. When he tried to befriend Sen by giving her gold, she wouldn’t accept it. This intrigued him and

The story focuses on a young, ten year old girl named Chihiro, who in the beginning proves to be a very apathetic, whiny, and spoiled sort of child but grows and develops tremendously as a bright soul by the end of the viewer’s journey.
It is not always easy to decide about the care of a patient, because the patient’s cultural beliefs do not always coincide with the beliefs of the nurse. Ephesians 4:2 in “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love” (English Standard Version). God has loved us unconditionally from the beginning of time, and has always been patient with us. It is time that humans show the love that God has for us onto others and respect one another no matter the differences. This paper will discuss the importance of respecting another person’s culture, what stigma is and whether if Lia’s family viewed her that way, brief history of the Hmong, the preventions that could have taken place, and how to incorporate
Precious is a movie that was produced based off a book. The movie was a story about a 16-year-old girl Claireece “Precious” Jones who was abused by her family emotionally, physically, mentally, and sexually. The film addresses many issues that a client may come across including the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.
Fracis Ford Coppola’s “The Outsiders” (1983) is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by E.Hinton published in 1967. There are many theories that can be found throughout the movie, victim precipitation theory, differential association theory, strain theory and labeling theory are the most prevalent. The story takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma and revolves around the story of a 14 year old Greaser named Ponyboy Curtis. The town is split into two conflicting adolescent groups, the Greasers and the Socs. The Greasers are of lower class standings with harsh upbringings, poor kids from the wrong side of town (north) and are considered delinquents. The Socs, are privileged kids living on the south side who have an easy life where everything
Spirited Away, titled Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi in Japan, follows a young girl named Chihiro on an adventurous, yet threatening journey into a magical realm after her parents are turned into pigs. She forms relationships with people that will help her find her way back home such as Haku, Zeniba, and Mr. Kamaji. She also encounters those like Yubaba who try to make her time in the realm of spirits difficult. Spirited Away quickly became Japan’s highest grossing film of all time. It received many great reviews in every aspect of filmmaking. It won several awards, including A Golden Bear in 2002 at the Berlin International Film Festival, and an Academy Award in 2003 for Best Animated Film. Hayao Miyazaki, the film’s writer and director,
The movie “Gone with the Wind” is about a rich southern girl named Scarlett O’Hara and her life hardships set during the time-period of the Civil War. In the story, Scarlett is forced to watch helplessly as her family’s wealth and lives fade as the confederacy loses the Civil War. Even though, the movie is mainly centered on the dilemmas of Scarlett’s love life, there are many historical accuracies that immerse the viewer in the southern mindset as well as the timeframe. The portrayal of class structures and the confederate attitudes before the Civil War are both accurate and engaging details that the movie successfully implements. In the film, these examples are displayed mainly through the dialogue and setting.
Fences is a drama film directed and starred by Denzel Washington, along with Academy Award Winner, Viola Davis as well as adapted from the play Fences by August Wilson. The movie Fences focuses with elements of distrust and change among a working-class African-American father Troy Maxson, works as a garbage collector during the 1950s in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Maxson’s dream was to become a professional baseball player, but he was considered too old when the league began recruiting black athletes. Sullen by the truth, Troy creates more problems in his family when he dismisses his son’s chance to play professional football. The director’s perception of African American experience during the time period is very fluent. The characters
Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run (1998) is truly a brilliant film. It is very seldom that a film manages to combine the high pace of an action thriller and a deep philosophical subtext without botching it, but Run Lola Run does an excellent job at striking a balance between both. Tackling the very abstract and philosophical concepts of chance and cause-effect, Run Lola Run is truly a modern foreign classic. Tykwer manages to postulate one simple theory through the film, that the simplest of choices can completely change everything. The film is supported by stellar performances from Franka Potente and Moritz Bleibtreu as the protagonist Lola and her boyfriend, Manni. The film’s use of cinematography to add to the narrative, clever use of the aspects of mise-en-scene and explosively-paced soundtrack add a whole new dimension to this film. One of the few German films to be both a critical and commercial success, Run Lola Run is a smart and stimulating film, which demands active watching in order to understand fully. I will now analyze the film comprehensively using three main parameters; the mise-en-scene, the cinematography and the sound.
When it comes to the film industry, entertainment is the tool used to acquire what is desired, money. The main goal for filmmakers when they create a film is to attain money in addition to the money spent to make the movie. Therefore, in some films that they like to base off of true accounts, it is somewhat necessary to dramatize or embellish the story to really tug at the heartstrings of the films audience. They achieve this goal by the use of dramatic music, ambient lighting, and a small amount of tweaked diction. The Fighter is an excellent example of this dramatization in action because throughout the film the characters are faced with a multitude of decisions that must be made. The choices they make require the characters to choose
''The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!!! ...'' Father Merrin&Father Damien Karras from the movie -The Exorcist-
This movie is about a man (Chuck) who is always kept up on time and how important it is to be and keep track on time. In the movie, Chuck gets stuck on an island and is challenged by nature to survive on the island and later get off the island. Once he finds a way to get the island he is reunited with the real world and has a feeling of gratefulness for everything that he has. He realizes he needs to live every moment like if it was your last. The theme of Cast Away is that there is always a way to survive the difficulties in life whether it may be physical, mental or emotional obstacles. The movie portrays this through symbols, settings and character development.
I am planning to write about the 1999 film Fight Club, directed by David Fincher. This movie is about a nameless insomniac office worker (the narrator) who has become, as he views, a slave to consumer culture. He begins attending support groups for diseases he doesn’t have to subdue his emotional state, and he begins to sleep again. He meets Marla Singer, another fake attendee of support groups, she is an incredibly mysterious woman who is obviously a bit crazy, yet the narrator seems drawn to her. On a flight for his job, the narrator meets the character Tyler Durden, a hip, stylish man who sells soap for a living. When the narrator's apartment blows up, he calls Tyler and begins to live
In the movie, the Babadook, the characters express their grief that never leaves. It grows as “monster” that one learns how to deal with because losing someone is never gets easier. These scenes are compared and contrasted through mise-en-scè, cinematography, and editing. This scene analysis is going relate two scenes that helps understand what one goes through after a lost. The movie has characters that help express the misery of one that doesn’t learn how to grieve in a proper manner. How one overcomes the pain and changes for the better and slowly has better days. A brighter day might not come tomorrow, but learning how to control your days come within time.
While the main plot of many Disney Animations is the coming together of two individuals in pursuit of love, In Spirited Away the female character doesn't devote herself to a romantic relationship but the movie uses the romance to develop a story. Chihiro from Spirited Away features different characteristics that support the ideals of feminism movement for example, she is not concerned with sexual or romantic desires and faces her problems with courage and power. In addition, there are two more factors which help give this film a feministic characteristic. One of these factors is the aesthetics which are used to portray Haku (the male support role).
The movie “My sisters keeper” is about 13 year-old Anna, who sues her parents for medical emancipation when she is expected to donate a kidney to her sister Kate, who has leukemia. This essay will focus on three events in Anna’s life, and discuss how each event in the characters life had an affect on her physical, psychosocial and cognitive development. The events that will be discussed are: how being brought into the world to save Kate affected Anna’s psychosocial development, how having to undergo many surgeries at a very young age affected Anna’s physical development, and also how Anna’s cognitive development was affected by her sisters sickness and death.
