Makeup: a cosmetic used to make women feel confident. As so it seems right? Covergirl, one of the top selling makeup companies, advertises this idea to both young and older women. Covergirl has been using advertisements to assist in selling their makeup products since 1960. Many women struggle with self-confidence and self-image. Makeup is a quick and effective way to help a woman make her feel temporarily beautiful. The main point of each Covergirl advertisement is to encourage that the use of Covergirl makeup will make women feel beautiful or confident. Ann Marie Britton (2012) stated “By placing photo-shopped and computer-enhanced models in advertisements, society has built up impossible standards of beauty, which has led to feelings of inadequacy among women.” (p. 2)

Applying makeup is something like an art. You can use it to do pretty much everything from the most basic look to completely transforming your face. Whatever you would like to do, there's some sort of makeup look out there for you. I'm going to teach you the basics with a more natural look, so there's no guesswork about what kinds of products or tools you need.

God gave us all unique faces, all beautiful in their own ways, so why not have a little fun with them? Why not show off what we love about ourselves, show how we like to display our features, and talk to our friends what we love about them? Wearing makeup gives us a chance to do just that. Society today, though it denies even the slightest notion of it, tells us that if we look and feel good, we should also feel some kind of insecurity. We have the ability to wear makeup in a way that fights against this idea. Makeup has the capability to transform us into confident people, which in turn molds us into braver and more courageous lights for Christ. Did you know that makeup has been around for 12,000 years. The ancient Egyptians were the ones that invented the beautiful work of art …. Makeup. Studies show that about 44% of women are “ dependent on makeup”. What’s the purpose of makeup? Why do so many people wear it? How do you even put it on? For beginners, It’s good to know the purpose of wearing makeup, the different types of makeup, and the proper application to create a fresh- faced work of art.

Makeup does a lot for one's looks. It can even out a person's complexion. It can improve one's looks. Many people follow strict rules when it comes to makeup. Of course, rules are important in life. However, there are times when you can toss out the rules, be who you are, and have fun.

While makeup is considered a part of growing up, it can also be seen as supporting ideas of covering up an individual’s flaws, perfectionism and consumerism.

Makeup is used in modern times like no other time. In our society beauty means it all.

Makeup has been around for at least 6000 years and some may even say 100000 years, but it all has evolved to what it is today. Women use makeup to enhance their natural beauty, but how they express themselves to the public has changed constantly.

Make-up has been beloved by woman throughout history. Some wear a little, some wear a lot, it can make a statement, or it can be simple. We are introduced to make-up at a young age. As a young child we all loved to play with our mother’s make-up. I know firsthand that smothering my face in my mother’s deep purple eye shadow and bright red lipstick was a favorite past time of mine. Even now as a grown adult I buy my younger cousins make-up kits for holidays and birthdays. I laugh and snap pictures of them drawing a neon pink smile across their faces with lipstick. But if you take a look at what ingredients go in to that lipstick that that ten year old has in his or her hand, it would not be so funny.

Makeup is something that has been used and enhances one’s beauty, some people wear makeup to cover up acne and hide their blemishes, while other people wear makeup because it gives them a boost of self confidence. Makeup can enhance one’s beauty or can make someone look like a Halloween character, depending on how you use it. Makeup can damage one’s skin and some can become so dependent on wearing makeup that they won’t leave their house without wearing it; whatever one’s reason for using makeup, it is very important to keep healthy skin under makeup.

The main purpose of cosmetics is unmistakable- to make you prettier. Women wear varying amounts of makeup depending on the occasion, the time of day, or just personal preferences. Makeup can be broken down into categories. Skin makeup consists of foundation, concealer, powder, and blusher. Eye makeup includes: mascara, shadow, liner, and brow definer. Lip makeup is comprised of products such as lipstick, lip gloss, and lip liner.

There are many different ways to apply makeup with many different products, I will be giving the basic outline and most effective way to apply it. The world of makeup consists of so many different products, tools, and color schemes, that it can be difficult to figure it all out. Every product is different in its own way, some work better than others, some are more expensive than others, and some just don't work for certain skin types. I used to have no idea what I was doing, when I first started wearing foundation I didn't set it, by the end of the day it looked like my face was basically melting off. I will explain the following steps, face washing, eye makeup, foundation, shaping your face, and setting your face.

Some use makeup to feel glamorous and others use make up as a way to take time for themselves. However, should children be introduced to the world of makeup? At what age is it appropriate to use makeup? It is important for children to build a solid sense of self before introduction to make up. There are many negative factors that can develop in a child’s mind by introducing them to makeup at a young age, such as self-esteem issues, and blurring what children know as appearance and reality. Many believe that makeup can be a way to express our identity, but I believe makeup can be destructive to the development of children and their identities.

To me Makeup is art, expression, it can transform a person into anything of their choosing. Color is vibrance, it can tell you a lot about a person. It can give confidence and make women/men feel beautiful. It isn’t just about decorating the face, or caking on some makeup. It’s about bringing out the beauty from within in so many different ways. I always like to express myself whether it be from blue eyebrows or green eyeshadow. Other people’s opinions don’t matter to me as long as I am happy with myself.
