Into the Wild is a novel about Chris McCandless who left everything, and everyone he knew after college and essentially disappeared into the wild. A commonly asked question at the end of Into The wild is why did Chris McCandless do this, why did he abandon his college education and everyone he knew. Many have tried to figure out just this question but with the help of the memoir Walden, a book that heavily inspired McCandless, it is easy to see why McCandless left his conventional life. These reasons are that He wanted to be more like nature, to go with the flow and not let every little thing throw him off, Chris took this to the extreme and literally joined nature to get a better understand of it. He also wanted to live a simpler life, Chris again took this to the extreme by leaving everything that was extra or unneeded in his life. The final reason is that he wanted to see what reality and real life must offer, he didn’t want to see and live with the reality that other people imposed on things.

The Washington Redskins have had the name since they began playing in the NFL. Its name does not have anything to do with the team, however, the connotation of the word “Redskin", negative and a derogatory term, shows why the Washington Redskins should change their name. Charles Krauthammer explains his reasons of why they should change the name of the team by using the example of the word “retarded” as it is now, not associated with being dumb or insufficient intelligence, rather “developmentally disabled”. He later explains how someone would not simply go up to someone and call them “retarded” due to the connotation it has. Krauthammer also recognises the fact that there are still people to this day who “contain sentimental and historical
There are many reasons as to why geese should not be regulated as hard as they are. These animals cause thousands of dollars in damage every year to farmers and landowners. Regulations should be a little less strict because of overpopulation, disease, and damage that they caused. There are millions of geese especially snow geese and blue geese. There are millions of small game species because of their fast reproduction rate.
Every year about three-hundred thousand people show up to the Alaska State Fair, more than seven hundred miles away from Barrow, Alaska, and about five hundred and twenty-six miles away from the North Slope. The Fair has been active for 49 years and counting, but only has one location, Palmer, Alaska. There is more than seven-hundred thousand people that live in Alaska, so less than half of the residents are able to attend and enjoy the state fair every year. To help benefit the rural communities in Alaska for the Alaska State Fair experience, the fair should be moved every other year because people would be able to have the same opportunities that urban areas have, the attraction of the state fair would grow, performers could experience different
Everybody at least wants to go somewhere new in their lifetime. Perhaps it’s to visit family or maybe it’s to get away from the same old, same old, I’ll admit Indiana is pretty boring. Anyways, I’ve always wanted to go to Oregon, mainly because of the weather. Like every state, Oregon has it’s advantages and disadvantages. I’ve always adored Oregon for some reason and have always fantasized of living there, even if I don’t live there, a vacation to Oregon would still be suffice.
“Hey guys! This is the last communication you shall receive from me. I now walk out to live amongst the wild. Take care, it was great knowing you” (Qtd. In Krakauer 69). After graduating from Emory University, Christopher McCandless abandoned everything, gave his entire savings account to charity, and then hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wild. In the novel, Into the Wild, Was McCandless justified in shunning society? McCandless was justified in shunning society because he simply wanted to find himself and be independent without any distractions from his friends or family.
It is often noted that one can never truly understand the beauty of life until they go and experience it. This idea parallels with getting to know who they really are and figuring out what their purpose in life genuinely is, which not many people cannot comprehend. Everyone has different fears, desires, and feelings, but not until you live a life of new experiences do you harness your true self. Growing through experiences and connecting with nature allows someone to more deeply reflect on their individual purpose on Earth and discover their own definition of happiness. Henry David Thoreau comments on this even further by proposing that the disconnection from a society in which we are comfortable is the only way to cultivate an understanding of ourselves. Chris McCandless sets out on an adventure in a life absent of routine to push his boundaries and prove that he could make it on his own, finding the meaning of life in the process. Henry David Thoreau’s statement “Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves”, is correct, as evidenced by Jon Krakauer’s novel Into the Wild.
[Attention getter] Do any of you know the name an animal that is on the endangered species list?
In this collage it hits the heart of a problem that has not really being acknowledge as a problem since the subject is about pit bulls. Which if any one utter the word “pit” and ends in “bull” everyone, has a fear right after, or just anger towards the dog. Many emotions are mixed with the pit bull terrier breed, it is divided 50/50 of good or bad emotions that can effect ones perception of the animal. I disagree with California’s ban on the word “Redskins”. Schools in California should not have to change their mascots because of a word. The word “Redskin”, in my opinion, is not offensive. California is making a big deal about the word “redskin” when there’s more important things to worry about. I don’t understand how banning the word “reskins” is setting a shining example for other states across the country. That’s why I disagree with California’s ban on the word “redskins”.
“Chiefs”, “Redskins”, and “Braves” these are all names of sports teams that use Native American history and heritage for mascots, merchandise, and cheap cheers. This practice is disrespectful to Native American history and is a form of cultural appropriation not “respect”. This use of Native American tribal names and racist nicknames of the past for sports teams is offensive and they should no longer be used.
There is a large percentage of people that love college football across the United States, but people do not usually realize how popular this sport is.
