Businesses, specifically larger corporations, play a major role in what occurs in society therefore, they are responsible to their stakeholders not only to pursue economic goals but the greater social good as well. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) means that a corporation should act in a way that enhances society and its inhabitants and be held accountable for any of its actions that affect people, their communities, and their environment. (Lawrence, 2010). Social responsibility is becoming the norm so much so that some businesses have incorporated it into their business model. There are three components of the bottom line of social
CSR is the concept that businesses should balance profit-making with activities that benefit society, as Bruce Dayton believed “businesses should act in the best interest of society” (Target, 2015). Accordingly, Target’s commitment is to design tomorrow’s Target through our value chain, building community and creating a great workplace. As such, its 5 core beliefs: innovation, leadership, growth, inclusivity, and community influence its ongoing commitment to CSR. Furthermore, they achieve this by concentrating on:

This essay focusses on critical assessment of the report submitted by group 16 on the ?Analysis of Xbox 360 Environmental Practices?. The importance of purchasing gaming consoles and gadgets from brands that focus on environment friendly assembling of components and recycling has been discussed in the report submitted by group 16, with constant criticism given to Microsoft regarding it?s usage of harmeful materials such as brominated flame retardants(BFRs), PVC plastic and phthalates being done in order to make several components of the much hyped gaming console xbox 360. All three have been proved to cause major health risks for people and pose greater danger to environment through e-waste, given their ability to combine with other elements to create toxic components[footnoteRef:1]. It has been noticed that considering PVC, it is even harder to recycle the materials in a safe manner majorly because it is not cost effective and is probably why Microsoft has yet not been able to phase it out of their supply chain. NGOs such as Greenpeace have confirmed that electrical waste by Microsoft and major corporations is illegally disposed off, often shipped to developing countries where regulations are less strict and technology is not very advanced to properly dispose the materials, which is leading to mass air and water pollution[footnoteRef:2]. With context to hazardous materials being used in the making of xbox 360, several alternatives have been suggested by the

Ten years ago, corporate philanthropy and volunteerism became popular as an a la carte add on. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is something that affects all companies and should be an active factor in the company’s decision making. It is something all corporations need to care about. CSR is when business’ or corporations take part in an initiative or campaign for a cause that will benefit society and/or in some way make the world a better place (Taylor, 2015). Initially, Corporate Social Responsibility started to take shape around the 1950’s, but some say that it dates all the way back to the 1800s, the idea of CSR was seen (Carroll, 2007). One may think that because it is dated so long ago, it doesn’t have an important impact today nevertheless, it is proven that Corporate Social Responsibility is a pathway for entities to self benefit as they are in the process of benefitting society.
Their CSR are divided into five pillars: Creating a Better Life Every Day, has been translated into five pillars: Building Human Capital, Outreaching To The Community, Strengthening Economic Value, Protecting The Environment and Solidarity For Humanity.
