1. Write a short essay describing ways in which sea horses have adapted to better survive in their habitat. Make sure to refer to information from the sources in your response. Some ways in which sea horses have adapted to better survive in their habitats. One of their abilities that can help them survive is their ability to camouflage and hide from their predators. The second thing is that they don’t have scales they have bony plates. The final thing is that they have special senses. The first thing is the ability to camouflage. Sea horses being able to camouflage is a very great way to survive in their habitats because they can hide from anything that tries to harm them. In source 1 paragraph 3 sentences 1 through 3 it states “(1)
The sea dragon is a small, delicate fish found in the tropical coastal waters of south and west Australia. Sea dragons look similar to and are in fact closely related to sea horses. There are two different species of sea dragon which are the leafy sea dragon and the weedy sea dragon. Although both sea dragon species have a similar body shape and size, they are very different in appearance. The leafy sea dragon is the master of camouflage, and being able to hide itself so easily amongst the plants means that the leafy sea dragon is rarely eaten, despite having numerous potential predators in the surrounding water. The weedy sea dragon does not look so elaborate, only having a few feather fins along its back. The weedy sea dragon has adapted to life on the sea bed as these feathery (weed-like) fins help the sea dragon to camouflage into the debris on the sea floor. The baby sea dragons are completely independent once they have hatched and feed on tiny nutritious particles in the
Seahorses can not swim very well so it is hard to swim away from predators, but on the other hand seahorses are very small which helps them get away from predators. Seahorses also use their environment to hide and get away from predators.
Did you know that seahorses are the only members of the Hippocampus species? The name Hippocampus is Greek, it means “Horse Sea Monster.” There are thirty-four different species of seahorses. Many people are surprised when they find out that seahorses are a type of fish. They have fins and gills, the defining features of a fish. When seahorses are in a group they are called a herd, just like horses. Seahorses usually live one to five years, but they are becoming endangered because their habitat is slowly being destroyed. “Seahorses can be as small as one inch long and as tall as twelve inches long!”(Trisha Shaskan, page 23) Seahorses are not alone though, the Syngnathidae family also includes pipefish and seadragons. Syngnathidae means fused jaw.
Researchers are determined to find out what factors affect the survival of seahorses. Incidental capture, targeted fishing and habitat degradation are some of the factors that have lead to the decline in the seahorse population worldwide. The video of the pregnant seahorse giving birth has been posted on YouTube. The video has been viewed over 1.8 million
There are many things in our world that change over time. The seasons change from summer to fall, the leaves on trees change from green to red and orange, the weather goes from hot to cold. When everything starts to change, people start wearing more layers of clothes and instead of going out with friends to get ice cream and head down to the beach, they often head down to Starbucks to grab a hot chocolate to go ice skating. People adapt to the environment around them but not on a molecular level like the animals around the world who cannot simply put on clothes and buy hot chocolate or buy ice cream and head to the beach. Animals adapt to their living conditions to prolong their lifespan. This was first introduced as the theory of evolution
In contrast to whales, seals and walruses have remained heavily furred marine mammals. There are several differences that make the retention of fur an adaptive trait in seals and walruses. These advantages can be divided into three categories; life aspects, evolutionary descent, diving differences.
How have sea horses adapted better to survive in their habitat? Sea horses use camouflage, get food by the currents of the water, and use bone plates to protect them instead of scales. They are often hard to find and they have to have a good way to hide because they can’t get away fast enough.
Sea Horses have better survival habitat because they can change colors to any color there around and stay hidden where nothing can see it and they are very sneaky because their small and camouflage to whatever is around, they might not be fast but they have a better advantage because they are small and they could swim into something small to make where the big fish can't get the sea horse and also they could just hide in the grass and just be quit and lurk around and get there food and have a good
Have you ever wondered what seahorses do when you walk away or when the the aquarium closed. Well seahorses are not normal fish. Seahorses are very unique animals. They can do many different things the normal fish can’t do. They can flip upside down and the can even blend in with its surrounding!! Seahorses have many more talents . Keep reading to see more on what theses unique animals can do!!
Some ways seahorses have adapted to better survive in their habitat is by learning ways to eat. In paragraph 2 source 1 it states "There, they hang out and hang on by wrapping their prehensile tails around seaweed or some other support. Then underwater currents deliver their food—tiny sea animals and plants called plankton." This is showing that the sea horse has learned and adapted to new ways or getting their food. Another way they have adapted to their habitat is they learned to blend in so they could hide from their predators. In paragraph 3 source 1 it states " They can change colors to camouflage themselves, and feature bumps called tubercles that also help them blend in." This shows that the sea horses have adapted by learning to
The dolphins are no more than 8 feet long, the horses no more than 9 feet long.
As you know seahorses are different from other fish. They may be different but that is a good thing because you might have some advantages from being different. Seahorses have a horse shaped and angled head. They have a long snout and a tiny mouth but that can be a good thing because then the seahorses can get into tiny spaces and get the food other fish can’t. Seahorses eat mysis shrimp which are shrimp that can reach anywhere between 4.4mm and 9.4mm and you can see right through them. If the shrimp is too big then the seahorse can make its mouth bigger like a snake and eat it. Seahorse also have a snake like tail which they use to swim and hang on to things like plants. Other fish have fins to help them swim but if seahorses don’t want to use their little fins they can use their tails. If the water is too rough all they have to do is hang on to a plant so they don’t get carried away. That coolest but weirdest thing about seahorses are their eyes. They can move both of their eyes in different directions at the same time. So they could see behind them and beside them at the same time. That is an advantage because they can see what is coming from both ways instead of just one way. So when a predator comes they can see them and hide or blend in. Being able to blend in is another advantage because most fish can’t do that. They can be one color and blend in with only one thing but seahorses can blend into anything. They are
The evolutionary process where organisms develop certain traits or behaviours allowing them to successfully live and thrive in their habitat, is called adaptation. Adaptive traits can range from structural, behavioural, or physical traits, which are maintained and evolved by natural selection. In my essay I will be focusing on how organisms adapt to living in frozen seas, which is the home to a huge variety of different life forms that are highly adapted in their life history, ecology and physiology to the harsh conditions of this environment. I will firstly be looking at both the Arctic Ocean and Antarctica in more detail before exploring the different varieties of life that live there, and the adaptive traits they have developed. This article would be cited a lot in my paper. This layout
Introduction: The name of seahorses is given to about 40 species of marine fish that occur worldwide. This group belongs to the family: Syngnathidae and the genus Hippocampus. The genus name comes from the Ancient Greek whereas Hippo means horse and Kampos means sea monster. The name in other Greek translation means bent horse. The size of this unique fish may reach up to 35 cm with an estimated lifespan of about 5 years.
