Attention Do you want to save money? How about save the planet? Do you want to be healthier? Well then you should stop drinking soda. Weather you call it “soda”,”coke”, “pop”, or any variation of those you should stop drinking it. Many people know that soda is not very good for you but I'm going to tell you why it is very bad for you and how it impacts all of us. You can feel better and stop waisting money, I know because I am a prior soda drinking, and i stopped one year ago, and i have never felt better. Im going to give you 3 categories why you need to stop drinking soda. One, the environmental impact, two, your health, and three, finances. Need (Show visual aid #1) The environment: We only get one world to live on and we should take care of it as best we can. So that our kids and our kides kids can grow up on a beautiful, clean Earth. Now if thats you, your are spending about $550 per year if you buy it from a soda machine. If you make $50k a year that is 1% of you take home. If you stop drinking soda and say you invest that into a retirement account that would help you tremendously. Say that the retirement account yields 8% interest and you invest for 30 years that compounds to about $62,000. Diabetes occurs when the body can’t produce enough insulin or can’t use the insulin the body produces properly. The higher the consumption of SSB(Sugar sweetened beverages) the higher chance of getting diabetes. Barry Popkin, a professor of nutrition at the University of North Carolina, says that "the people getting diabetes are people who consume very high levels of SSBs and have only slightly reduced in these very high levels of their soda consumption."
However this argument is weak due to the most popular places, such as fast-food chains, are affected by the ban. You would also have to go out of your way to buy more soda, which is a huge inconvenience and it will cost more money, simply because you want an unhealthy beverage. The text “Soda’s a Problem But...” Klein argues against the ban, but a lot of her pieces of reasoning are not logical, for example “People would simply buy two 16-ounce cups” (Klein 289). This is illogical because it will cost more money to buy multiple cups of soda, which would cost more money, and they may not finish the soda’s that they bought at the convenience store or restaurant. If you bought more cups of soda you would be taking up space within your car, if you have less space you will not have anywhere else to store more valuable objects like your phone or wallet. Soda companies “dramatically announced that they would aim to cut the number of sugary drinks calories by twenty percent over the next ten years by reducing the portion size and trying to sell more zero-calorie and low calorie options.” By reducing the portion size, Americans could be drinking more cans, and possibly drinking more ounces than they were originally. As for the zero-calorie and low calorie options, the drinks are considered by doctors to be worst than the original because they contain artificial sweeteners that are not ‘natural sugars’, but chemically made sugars that puts an individual at greater risk of being morbidly obese by slowing their metabolisms, and is also known to elevate their blood pressure.
