Erin and Phil had been married for approximately a year. Erin grew up in a Christian home and has been a regular church attendee most of her life. She has been a foreign exchange student in Germany. When she returned, the public schools refused to accept her credits and wanted her to repeat her senior year of high school. This action prompted her to get her GED. She went to college and graduated earlier than her peers. Erin’s parents have divorced and remarried to new spouses. According to her, she and her brother were always treated well, and those remarriages were the best thing for both of her parents.

I did caution her that she had to be aware of her strong needs for control and find a way to turn them off when she gets home. Phil deserves to have a say in things and not feel pushed constantly. This pushing into sometimes unknown areas will cause resentment on his part since he too is very independent as well.
