Wild Hogs A group of four middle aged men plan a long trip away from their work, stress, and family. Due to their extreme excitement, they fail to think of problems that may occur along the way. The four wild hogs set off on the journey. Everything was going great until the trip started to throw many small obstacles at them. Things took a turn for the worst when the four wild hogs ran into the Del Fuegos, a real-life biker gang. The four men soon realized they were in for a long trip. In this movie, there are many examples of social psychology topics. Discrimination, aggression, attitude change, and friendship are among some of the most important. When the guys walk in the first saloon, they are instantly discriminated against because of
Over the weekend I watched the 1957 version of Twelve Angry Men. It was a great film to watch. The film deals with the deliberations of a jury deciding the fate of a young man accused of murder. The film highlights a host of social psychological processes. I will focus on three of them conformity, the social influence, and aggression.
Sociologists concern themselves with social relations among individuals and groups within a particular society (Luton, 2015), so a sociologist would find this movie interesting because when analyzed through a sociological point of view it provides various examples of socialization,
This movie touches on the biological and social perspectives of racism. The ism’s that was identified in the movie were internalized racism, sexism, classism, and prejudice. The isms were overt in the movie. We felt as if racism and sexism were very prevalent in the movie more so than any of the other ism’s that we identified. For example, in one scene the mother wanted the daughter to get married and not work.
The movie addresses many key issues in the United States; issues such as people of different socioeconomic statuses as well as gender stereotyping and deals with the issue of race and education.
In addition to being an award winning and highly regarded film, Gran Torino is filled with concepts of social society within it’s gritty plot. Cultural Issue: This movie was full of cultural issues but the one that stood out the most had to do with race. Racism is “the subordination of any person or group because of some physically distinctive characteristic” (Marsiglia & Kulis,
While the film “Crash” has several complex characters with storylines that all become interconnected in various ways, the movie is predominantly about how prejudice plays into people’s everyday lives and how such prejudice usually has negative implications. The characters in the film all had their own prejudices, or attitudes judging others in negative ways, which set the stage for discrimination, stereotypes, racism, and scapegoats. Thus, one can see how prejudice plays such a pivotal role in people’s relations with each other. As a result, it is best to analyze this film from a symbolic interactionism point of view by analyzing how the labels the characters encounter in this film affect their perception and in turn create prejudice
Another issue in the movie was attitudes. All races have attitudes towards people that are not like their own, whether they are good or bad. Attitudes I believe are connected with experiences. What one experiences with another race can affect the way their attitude is towards them.
What are the underlying social issues in the film? Consider what the director is trying to say about stereotypes.
Social principles that are studied in social psychologist can be seen in everyday life. Since movies are a portrayal of life, many times the things that effect lives daily are often over dramatized to show the congruence between life and art. In the movie Maid in Manhattan, starring Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes, to people are brought together by a lie; although everything seems perfect, because they are from different classes their relationship and future careers could be in jeopardy . Three social principles that are evident in the movie are social facilitation, foot-in-the-door phenomenon, and cognitive dissonance.
The idea of social construction, to put it simply, is that our society creates norms to categorize people. The norms created usually coincide with the time period in which they were made, however, the expectations of society change over time. For example, fifty years ago people were still being shunned for interracial relationships, however, in current times, it’s not that big of a deal. Constructing norms has had a very prosperous run in society, ideals that were created years and years ago are still being held as fact today; specifically, those regarding gender. If we use animals as a comparison, we can realize that sexuality and gender in humans is a socially constructed idea that is used to put people into categories to fit the ideals of

The human-animal border is something people have been fascinated with for years. Humans are taught at a younger at that there is supposed to be a separation between humans and animals, but as the years have gone on this border has started to dissipate. Humans now relate to animals more than ever before. Kids idolize them because of the movies and television shows, and adults turn to animals in times of great need. Animals have become more like humans which poses the question: does this border even exist anymore? Over time live action animal shows have become very popular, and people are willing to spend large sums of money to see exotic animals up close and personal. It doesn’t matter if it is a lion, elephant or horse. People want to experience the exoticism that they cannot get on a daily basis. Also, plays that have humans portraying animals have become increasingly popular over the last century. All of these events have caused the human animal border to be extremely blurred because it is hard to distinguish between humans and animals when the two are now so closely related. In the following paragraphs, there will be several live action animal acts and plays that will be used to show how the human animal border is disappearing. (216)
Human nature in animals. Was this really shown in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’? In fact, there were several messages about human nature reflected in ’Animal Farm’. The messages that were expressed through many different characters and their behaviours, gave an insight into human nature, and showed many characteristics of it.
