Social networking is the mainstream way to communicate with anyone. Teenagers are obsessed with social networking, no one calls each other unless it’s extreme circumstances or their mother. Sharing pictures, sharing life stories, and sharing opinions online has been the way of life and the norm for kids growing up with computers and smart phones. The parents to this generation have not grown up in the same environment and have different standards for online activity. In the Article “ 10 Reasons Why I Avoid Social Networking Services” written by Alan Norton, he lists why he does not use social networking services. His personal beliefs are backed up with statistics and hold true to many people in his generation but not in the younger ones.

How does social networking sites affect our society? We all know that social networking sites changed the way we communicate, and many people are using these sites. As a teenager and a college student, social networking sites has given me a lot of information and opportunity to socialize and help for my college tests, communicating with my friends, and many more. Another positive effect of social networking sites is it providing real time news. According to a website called Pew Research Center who has experts in statistics, it stated “About a quarter of all U.S. adults (26%) get news from two or more social media sites, up from 15% in 2013 and 18% in 2016.” But what are the positive effects of social networking in our society? The three positive effects of social networking sites are it provides easy and instant communication, it helps college students, and it help us to find a job easily.

Social networking has become a major part of society. Many people wake up each day and check social media websites specifically throughout Twitter and Facebook first thing in the morning instead of reaching for a newspaper. Since people are spending such a large amount of time surfing social networks, it is important to point out some of the positive and negative effects that social networking can have on a society. The positive effects of social networking sites are allow people to create new relationships and reconnect with friends and family. Increased communication, even online, strengthens relationships. And the other   is social networking sites make people share everything that they want and   bring people with common interests together, offer exposure to new ideas from around the world, and lower inhibitions to overcome social anxiety.

Social Networking has many effects on people’s personal lives. It can transform a small perspective into a view point looking into many different angles of ideas. Over time social media has changed; it’s made a drastic impact on society & has improved tremendously. When the word social networking comes to mind I think of bettering. You can further your education using social networking. Promotion of businesses and entrepreneurship opportunities have also been major keys that social media has been used for. Some people may have a negative outlook on this, not thinking of how it can be used it a positive manner. While social networking does have value, it also has tremendous potential for negative influences in everyday society. The harm caused by social networking has skyrocketed over the last decade. There are no regulations to the content that can be posted or the immediate contact one can have with a stranger, leading to dangerous situations. This is a rising concern for the parents of young children as well as all who are part of social networks. The growing population has become overwhelmingly focused on the world of media and technology; most could not solve a simple math question, much less have a personal conversation with someone. While our schools are being downsized, the Facebook population is growing each and every day. A solution must be found before the doors of schools are closed, the interaction with one another face to face lessens, and the lives of teens with a good future are destroyed. There have been many solutions set up to overcome these obstacles, for example; blocking certain posts, privacy settings, and under age logs in denials. Fortunately, these have worked in some cases.

In today’s world it is very uncommon for someone not to have Facebook or some other type of social media outlet. People check their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram multiple times a day to stay up to date with the latest news, gossip, and lives of our friends and family. Although these arguments are valid and important to address, they become less daunting when compared to the positive effects social media has on our modern culture. Facebook has made it easier for society to become more connected with our friends, family and the world around us. It has brought us closer to long distant relatives, provides emotional support to people in need, keeps us updated on the latest news and political issues, provides new knowledge, and raises awareness on issues around the world. Facebook makes life convenient, entertaining and even more manageable.
