At no other point in human existence has education combined with the impact of academic institutions, been at the forefront of influence on youth. Although the home is the starting place for any child, similar to the church, school has now become a safe haven for underprivileged youth. At school children learn values and beliefs that will stay with them for the remainder of their life. But it is through play that children learn sportsmanship, manners and courage which will dictate the citizen they will eventually become. Criminal behavior is learned at a young age, usually by older friends or siblings that youth frequently come into contact with. In urban neighborhoods youth often observe older peers and begin to consciously and unconsciously take on similar characteristics. By making the point of focus be centered on children, this creates a future that will involve a new wave of role models that will serve as positive examples to following generations. “Even if it were possible to parallel the low economic status and the inadequacy of institutions in the white community, it would not be possible to reproduce the effects of segregation and the barriers to upward mobility” (Sampson and Wilson, 1994:39). AACO will serve as positive community environment, which will decrease delinquent crime and in turn decrease future adult criminal activity. All ACCO operations will be oversaw by the program director who will work five hours a week at a fifteen dollar pay grade that must have at least an undergraduate education. Under the director there will be a Head Event Coordinator, Academic Coordinator, Athletic Coordinator, and a Head Community Service Project Coordinator each will make minimum wage and will have varying prerequisites. Majority of the staff will be student volunteers which will essentially work as interns under the qualified coordinators in day to day operations. Students in the 4th to 6th grade brackets will compete in the same baseball and basketball practices and camps, while 7th and 8th graders are divided into theirs. Monday and Wednesday from 3-4 pm students will participate in a study hall. From 4-5pm this will be a tutoring hour, were students will partake in small study groups oversaw by 10 student tutors. At 5-6pm students will receive an evening healthy snack and will serve as a free time period, similar to a school lunch period. 6-8pm students will participate in basketball or baseball practice depending on the season. After 2 hours of practice, students will be dropped off by coaches in large vans team by team. Fridays will be the exact same as Mondays and Wednesdays, but from 5-8 pm each group will have their games and
