Tracings of records show that the sport of soccer has been around for more than 2,000 years to Ancient China. That’s a long time.The sport really caught on effect from England. Many countries caught on to this game, including Greece, Rome, And parts of central America.

Soccer vs Football Two of the biggest sports in the world go by the same name “Football”. Early evidence of soccer being played as a sport appeared in China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. In China, it was during the Han dynasty that people dribbled leather balls by kicking it into a small net. Football as well as soccer are believed to have descended from the ancient Greek game of Harpaston which was a form of game played in the Roman Empire.

The official rules of soccer were founded in England ("A Brief History of Soccer"). Although we are not sure when or how it originated, evidence dating back nearly three thousand years ago in China shows that a small fur stuffed leather ball was used as the official game piece of a purely foot based activity with the overall objective being to score into opposite teams net likely known as Tsu Chu. The brutality of the sport grew over time as the games overall principles were toyed with, causing more injuries and controversy with higher powers in England, during the ruling of King Edward, resulting in expulsion and arrest if caught participating in the sport ("A Brief History of Soccer"). According to a 2009 New Frontier documentary, soccer is believed to have originated about 2,500 years ago in China during the Han Dynasty. It was called “cuju” (zu-joo). In the documentary, Mr. Ma Guoqing, curator at Linzi Football Museum in China, states that the original rules were based on nature. For instance, a ball was used because the sky was circular and a square court because the earth was believed to be square. Soccer (Football) is the most popular and fastest growing sport in the world. Over 240 million people play it regularly around the world. However, most people only get to view one side of soccer in their lifetime. They never get a glimpse of it in any other setting. For many people soccer is a very competitive organized sport. For others it is an everyday, fun activity. In some countries, soccer is their life, while in others it is just a sport. For those of you that don’t know, soccer is a sport where the objective is to score goals by kicking a ball into the other teams goal. It is a mix of offense and defense, with very fast paced action. You are allowed to use any body part except your hands and elbows. Soccers first appearance traces back to 3000 years ago in ancient China. But, the first modern version of soccer originates from Victorian England. Since then, soccer has spread around the world to the point where almost every country plays some form of it. I am going to address how it is different around the world and the reasons for this.

In the late 1700s and early 1800s, England had soccer that at this time was in between rugby and soccer. It was more so similar to rugby yet they couldn’t run with the ball until 1823. It regained support in the nineteenth century as many prestigious schools in England started playing it, albeit each school with different rules. Finally, in 1863, the Football Association was established and a clear set of rules were created for the game. What perhaps started out as an exercise used by the Chinese became a full-fledged sport, and afterwards began to rapidly evolve. Professionalism was instated by 1885, and the creation of the beautiful game of soccer that is watched by millions today was well on its way.
