16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking. It affects people every year. It has no good side effects and should be stopped.

Smoking should be illegal in the United States of America.
First of all, smoking has terrible effects on your health. It can cause heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and COPD to state a few. Adding to that, about one in five deaths in America is related to smoking. Tobacco use causes about 6 million deaths per year, while smoking causes nearly half a million. Plus, it can increase the risk of developing countless more diseases. Smoking is also addictive, people have a hard time stopping, and it sends them into a vicious cycle.

However, this idea is false, when smoking is putting other people in danger it isn’t protected by the constitution and bill of rights. It would be understandable it argue this point if you could prove that smoking wasn’t harmful to anyone other than yourself, but in this day, we know that smoking is harmful to people other than the one with the cigarette. Second hand smoke contains more than 7,000 different chemicals and at least 70 of those can cause cancer. It is not fair to expose people to these dangers, that made conscious decisions not to smoke. Smoking is hurting people and causing deaths so it should not be allowed.

In conclusion, smoking should be banned because it is killing people everyday. Smokers die about 10 years earlier than non-smokers on average. 10 years are taken from them by cigarettes. So to anyone who smokes, quit smoking, do everything possible to get rid of the habit that can take over someone's life.
