Slavery: A Narrative Analysis

In the last 240 years, we have grown from a group of colonies that were ruled by a King to being led by the United States’ first black president. At first glance, it would appear race is no longer a bias in this country. Over the next few paragraphs, I intend to defend the need to continue to teach the history of slavery, and its impact on the growth of our nation.
Frederick Douglas’ (Douglass, 2016) candor and poignant description of realizing what his future was to be as a slave resonated to my soul. The lens from which he viewed his future was not singular and I am sure was realized by every subjugated man, woman, and child imprisoned as a slave.
