Birth Of Nation by Nate Parker is a movie based on a former slave, Nat Turner, who started a rebellion. There were many reasons as to why the slaves and Nat Turner decided to start a rebellion. For example Turner’s wife was beaten by a white slaver owner, his friend’s wife was also beaten by a slave owner, and his grandmother died a sudden death; that most likely had to do with her being stressed, and always scared. Nat Turner reached his breaking point when he went to the other plantation, and saw the slave’s teeth hammered out of his mouth. Although most believe that Turner was insane; there are others who understood why he rebelled followed by the other slaves.The purpose of this essay is to reexamine the portrayal of Nat Turner, and his innocents in Birth Of A Nation by Nate Parker, it is to also shows how he struggle as a slave ,husband, and with religion. Nat Turner aka Nathaniel Turner was a 31 year old African American former slave who led the only effective, sustained slave rebellion in U.S history which took place on August 22, 1831, in Southampton County, Virginia. Turner’s rebellion was a life changing event that spread terror throughout the white community in the south. Which was a brave thing for his own to let him do, because back in the day blacks were not allowed to be educated.
