Icy fingers gripped my arm in the darkness… I jumped! I was out in the woods playing hide and seek with some friends when a strange man grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the ground. His hands were very cold and he looked extremely odd. I had never seen this man before. I was wearing a ski mask to keep my face warm from the winter chill in the air. He pulled the mask off my face. Then, told me he knew exactly who I was. He stated my name full name, Kelly Jo Baker. He knew all three of my siblings, Katie, Kevin, and Kasey. He knew my parents names, John and Jessa. It seemed that he knew everything about me.
When I am not out in the woods playing with my friends, I am home bonding with my entertaining family. My large, happy family lives
In Zora Neale Hurston's novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, the narrorator explores the experience Janie has with the blooming pear tree in her backyard. She throughly explains her experience by using a range of rhetoric devices to convey Janie's sudden desire for love. At the outset of the excerpt, the narrorator says "It was like a flute song forgotten in another existence and remembered again" to explain Janie's emotions. By using this simile, the reader can further understand how she feels about the blooming pear tree. As the passage progresses, the author uses a mix of imagery and personification when she says "She saw a dust-bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the thousand sister-calyxes arch to meet the love embrace and
Laws were established, and plans were occurred in order to eliminate American citizens from obtaining and using drugs, additionally to stop other countries from manufacturing, transporting these drugs across borders into the United States and selling/distributing them. After countless failed attempts, it was determined by Nixon that the supply for drugs existed due to the large demand and the suppliers would find anyway to succeed. Unfortunately Nixon did not act according to this understanding. Following this, Nixon launched numerous attempts to go into Mexico and eliminate the supply side of the drug war. He quickly learned that eliminating one route used by drug traffickers only resulted in them opening another route to continue their
In the mid 70’s, my family bought a cabin on the Illinois River. We spent all our free time there, weekends and most of the summer. For years my family enjoyed their time at the “clubhouse” as we called it. It was our home away from home. There were about 20 cabins there, so it was like our own little community. Just about everyone there was like extended family. Any time someone needed help, the neighbors showed up. Everyone there had similar interests, hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing. I spent most of my days enjoying these activities.
So today I and My family were going to a camp and we were packing and I find a gas lantern so I turn it on. then one hour later and my dad has my brother Asher picks it up and burns his hand. His hand looked a burnt marshmallow that you leave in the fire. Then with a long trip to a small hospital in Virginia. It felt very cold in the hospital. The smell of the place was like very old medicine. the doctor and she or him I do not remember, but he told us that Asher
Omg! I am going to have so much fun snowboarding! Today in my life I am at a super cool place. It’s in the UP and it’s called Ski Brule. It has all the snow hills you could possibly think about. I could never stop imagine me going down the hill and be so proud of me. But hopefully I don’t break any bones in my body. Because I still have basketball in the winter. But after I just took a soft energize nap. Then… We arrived. OM to the G! It was exactly what I imagined. The people gliding through the snow with their cool snowboards and their ski’s.
I was frantically mowing through the pile of life jackets trying to find one that fit me. I reacher for a red one with gray fringing the edge and swung it around my shoulders. To my surprise it fit! My younger cousin came strolling over over looked at the life jacket I had on and came rushing over. His name is Zane, he had bright red hair that was naturally curly, and stood no taller than my chest. He pointed at the life jacket I was wearing and stated that it was his. I reluctantly took it off and gave it to him. Once again I was jacketless. I picked up a yellow, black, and red one but it was to big. I picked up an all red one, to SMALL!! Suddenly my Uncle Mark is by me
It was just a normal day like any other I was walking down my street and a group of us wanted to go camping, we got all our gear ready and went on, the first night was a little spooky, we were hearing strange sounds in the bushes near our campsite. In the morning we went to go see what was in the bushes nothing but unknown footprints. We were all debating on what the creature was, so the second night came by and then we heard the noise again all but Dave went outside the tents to see what was making that sound, we started shining flashlights until we heard a fast running sound away, all of were spooked out, in the morning we found out that Dave was not in his tent, we all thought he went to the bathroom but for a couple hours he still was not back.(153)
I love my big loving family, and I love my action pact video games, and I love nice breezy summer days.
It was a dark and stormy night. I, Jonathan Harker, was shaking and I didn't know what was going on. I was seeing terrifying shadows around my room. Also, last night, I thought a person or a thing was behind me, but I couldn't see its reflection through the mirror. I didn't know what to do, so I started packing.
I enjoy spending time hiking and camping with my husband and our three boys. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, reading books outside, traveling, and spending time with my friends. During breaks, you will often find me in Oregon visiting my parents.
Snow skiing. The first day learning to ski is rough for almost anyone you ask. The day before my first ski trip, I could not help but wonder. Was I going to fall on my butt? Would I fall flat on my face? Would I make a fool out of myself? These were all questions that I knew I would soon get answers to. I had built up such intense feelings of nervousness and excitement that I could hardly tell the difference. All I wanted was to make it out alive.
Then I see someone I say hey you and they answer what I say can you help me there's a guy following me and the person says who there's no one there I turn around and there's no he says you must be hallucinating you might wanna get somewhere that doesn't have a lot of smoke I said ok. Then I go take a rest on the sidewalk, then I see this strange character against and it gets closer and closer and closer until it a couple feet away from me then it says something, then I started to get freaked out and then I got up and ran I don't know what it said I ran n I'm right by the lake and there's someone there I think it's Mr. Thomas baker I was so relieved. When I got there I told him what was happening with the guy chasing after me he says oh that was me. I say what. He laughs and says I was trying to catch up to you, but u kept on running so when you sat down I tried to talk to you, but then you got right back up and ran luckily I found a shortcut and beat you here. Oh i thought you were a killer or trying to do something to me. He said no then he said do you have what i gave you. I said said yes it right here i held on it as tight as i can here you go. And he took it. I asked him what are you gonna do with it. He said i'm gonna collect water so i can stayed hydrated and i can give out to people that need it
It all started 5th grade when I thought I was depressed, I was a very happy little girl who had a dream of becoming a celebrity or something. Who knew that my dreams were going to be crushed that same year. When I was 10 years old, I lived with my parents, sibling, and my dad’s friend Samuel. Samuel was a friend of my dad’s, when he came from El Salvador he had no where to stay so my dad let him live with us. He was nice, he treated all of us like if we were his kids. One day I came home from school and nobody was home but him. I was doing my homework and he knocked on my room door and told me he wanted to tell me something. He started touching my legs and trying put
So far, we have learned why parents act the way they do and how parental attitudes can influence child behavior however, It should be addressed that different parenting styles can also effect child behavior and that these parenting styles are categorized into four distinctive styles: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. Maryann Rosenthal, author of “The 4 Parenting Styles: What Works and What Doesn’t” describes what these styles are and how they affect children. First off, Rosenthal describes that each parenting style has two main components which are responsiveness and demandingness (1). Responsiveness is described as “how much independence you’re willing to grant” and demandingness is “how strict obedience you require” (1). Both these components help define what parenting style parents have. Rosenthal describes authoritarian parents as “very strict and controlling” and “they have a strong sense of justice and of the need of obedience” (2). These types of parents are really controlling to their children, and if they don’t behave as ordered those kids will often be punished (2). Rosenthal explains that these parents are “highly demanding but not very responsive” and as a result the children of authoritarian parents tend to be “timid, have lower self-esteem, lack spontaneity, and rely to an unusual degree on the voice of authority” (2). Rosenthal adds that these children usually do well in school and do not have any problems in behavior however,
So the way I see my family being happy is quite funny. To me family has to be able to have fun with one another. Thats how I've seen family and how I've come to know what a happy family is. We laugh and joke all the time. For instance we make fun of each other all the time. We don't do it to be jerks to each other but thats how we pass time. We all sit in the living room and watch football for instance. We gloat about who's team is best and thats when the insults start rolling in. A lot of us go back and forth with each other saying things I can't say on here. Never the less I enjoy those moments because its what makes us well us. To me a happy family really means we can enjoy each others presence and
