The topic of people’s deteriorating mental state can be very difficult to discuss, but when used in the right way, it can be quite entertaining. In both “Lamb to the Slaughter” and “The Yellow Wallpaper,” the authors use correlating themes, astounding imagery, and drastic character development, while covering historical stereotypes of men and women. These breathtaking stories are sure to be fascinating to any reader. The stories “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “Lamb to the Slaughter” use similar themes. For example, “The Yellow Wallpaper” is about a woman, whose mental state is slowly deteriorating. This quote from, “The Yellow Wallpaper,” illustrates the way the sun changes the color of the wallpaper throughout the day. Even though the sun only creates a very small change in the wallpaper's color, the woman still notices the change. The author embellishes on how the wallpaper is haunting the woman's brain. A quote from,”Lamb to the Slaughter,” says, “At that point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head”(Dahl 3,4).We can see that Mary is not very good at receiving unknown information. The quote shows that the thought of her husband leaving her haunts her brain. It illustrates how Mary is willing to go as far as murder, to keep her husband forever, in a very obsessive way. Ultimately, both “Lamb to the Slaughter” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” use much of the same
